  1. There will be more bad teams playing "meaningful" games down the stretch. The good teams will be able to cruise at the end which is boring.
  2. Some of the teams I remember most from my youth were dynasties like the Orioles, Athletics and Reds. I like it when there are teams like that. They become villains which every other team wants to beat. I wouldn't want a league where all the teams were average and a different team wins every year. Look at NCAA football. You've got the same teams winning every year and it's still very popular.
  3. Baseball is not boxing. Even great teams in any era lose 50-60 games a year.
  4. Sure, having more resources helps, but it doesn't mean you'll be more successful in the post-season crapshoot. And there will be expanded playoffs. I think that's a foregone conclusion. Besides, I think the fact that there are good teams and bad teams is entertaining. Too much parity is boring. You need some big villains and little heroes.
  5. There was lots of competitive balance in the 70s and 80s without any CBT. I just don't see that it matters now with so many teams in the playoffs. As much as I hate the set up, the idea is to make the playoffs and try to win the championship. The expaned playoffs gives everybody a chance regardless of whether a few teams spend more money than all the others.
  6. When 14 teams make the playoffs, everybody has a chance to be competitive regardless. If you can't be competitive with that, then you should sell your team.
  7. Biden is a terrible speaker. They say a lot of untrue stuff about him, but that part is true. Obviously Trump was terrible too.
  8. Yes, my life was better when I was ignorant of politics. I should get back to that.
  9. 14 teams are going to be in the playoffs. So, even if a few teams have more resources than all the other teams, there are still plenty of opportunities for poorer teams to win. nothing is required. The owners just want to keep salaries as low as possible.
  10. Difference between clip and magazine:
  11. I got out of FCNTX about a month ago after being in it for about 15 years. I also invested in GLD at the beginning of the year which turned out to be a good move. It's not enough to avoid the pain though. Most of my money is still in either SP500 or Bond mutual funds which of course are getting killed.
  12. I don't really care as most of the issues don't affect me as a fan. I just favor the players over the owners. The players are why I watch the game.
  13. Trump bailed out again for 500th time in 40 years.
  14. I would like to see the minor leaguers treated a lot better, but I don't feel bad for the Major League players. I would rather see the players win than the owners, but it's not a social justice issue.
  15. Yeah, I understand that, but it's still refreshing to hear about a player who does enjoy the games's history.
  16. Does he still write rambling post-retirement articles about how everything was better in the 1930s and how current players don't respect the game and fancy analysis has ruined the game? At first, I found him annoying, but it was so perfect it became amusing after a while which may have been Detroit News' intention.
  17. I have always wondered how many players are really into baseball history and would follow the current game closely if they didn't have to. Surely, there are some, but I imagine they spend most of their efforts getting stronger and honing their skills and are less interested in things like history.
  18. That would have been 1940s for me. I knew Peewee Reese and Lou Boudreau, but I know that a lot of (most?) kids wouldn't know them.
  19. buddha types faster than me.
  20. Right, he wanted more money
  21. At what point do people finally figure out that they are being robbed?
  22. He was dividing the league into two levels, so we can have relegation.
  23. Big divisions are better than small divisions, but with half the teams making the playoffs, it's not going to matter anyway. The regular season is going to meaningless.
  24. Ohtani will still bat. Also, there is a rule where if a team is forced to move a DH to a defensive position they lose the DH for the rest of the game and the pitcher has to bat.
