A running back’s career doesn’t get much more privileged than Swift’s. Going from top five OL to top five OL. It would be interesting to see what he could do in Jonathan Taylor, Derrick Henry, or Breece Hall’s position.

I don’t remember that being said by the team, that would surprise me a bit. I do remember fans thinking that to be the case. It always felt like Swift would have a phenomenal debut to each season and then go onto a pitch count for the rest of the season, going between getting 5-10 carries and being inactive due to injury.

I agree with all of this. I think they were pretty smart about it. They knew any durable running back was going to have a good time behind our line. I think Jamaal had an intangible aspect to him as a vocal leader in the locker room, and when they had to move on, they looked for a guy who could maximize production with yards after contact. That was Montgomery.

My impression of that saga wasn't that the Lions didn't want to pay him, but that his agent wanted more money that the Lions initially offered, and the Lions weren't willing to enter into negotiations while the market passed them by and cornered them into having to sign Williams. So when their imposed deadline came and went for Williams' agent, they weren't going to stand around begging him to sign, they just went to the market and got someone better for about the same amount. From a POD article about it: In any event, I am positive Jamaal would be having a far better season here than he is having in New Orleans.

Swift has had 11 games with 15+ touches this year. He averaged about half that many in his three years with the Lions. Dude couldn't stay on the field, plus Gibbs is just better. I do feel a bit for Jamaal Williams though. He would having a similar season to Montgomery here if his agent hadn't screwed him during free agency.

It feels like when they let Prater walk their attitude was that they didn't want to spend money on a kicker in 2021 and that they'd try a bunch of kickers and eventually find one that got the job done for cheap. Except that now we are in 2023 and eventually has not come to fruition.

None of them really worry me in the sense that I think we would lose... If the question is rephrased as "who do you think has the best chance to beat us" (which is what I suppose should worry us), I would pick teams like the Seahawks and Rams. They are both well coached teams (Seahawks more so than the Rams) with some amount of star power (Rams more so than the Seahawks) that will be prepared to capitalize on any mistakes we made. As with week two, if we lose the turnover battle by three to either of those teams, we're going to be in a dog fight, and we could lose... The Vikings and Packers are both fairly well coached, but don't have any real star power to speak of, which leads me to have less concern with either of them. Playing the Vikings three times in four weeks is not ideal, but I think that should be pretty clear by week 18 if it'll be the case, and we would see the Lions keeping things close to the chest in terms of looks... Neither the Saints or Falcons have good coaching or good players, so I would love to play either of them.

The goal there would be to kick a field goal as time expired. I don't think we take a knee in such a scenario. They probably run a standard two-minute offense, which is designed well to milk the clock anyway.

I think the "Dallas is unbeatable at home" line is a bit overplayed. They're 7-0 in Jerry's World, yes, but that's come against the Jets, Patriots, Rams, Giants, Commanders, Seahawks, and Eagles. A combined record of 41-57. They should beat four of those teams blindfolded. Credit where it's due for the other three, but a good team against a 0.500 team should win more often than not at home. And divisional games between good teams are always expected to be competitive. Detroit will deserve to be the underdog but I wouldn't completely write them off.

No doubt. He's really got nothing on that offensive side. It seems like they are of the mindset "the offense is fine as long as they've got Mahomes, let's buy a defense." Which, to be fair, has worked.

Why is the Eagles' push so effective? Is it their offensive line? Hurts? They're the only ones who execute it so perfectly.

As someone whose fantasy existence is hanging on for dear life hoping Dallas Goedert and Devonta Smith take the rest of the game off, I disagree.

That's not bad. It's about as much as I could ever do I'm sure. Even so, feels like something of a nice routine. Not that I don't have one for Lions games, but mine is just more akin to cramming in with those next to me, some semi-familiar faces and some not, high-tenning whoever came with me (who has also bought my beer), and high-fiving strangers after Amon-Ra somersaults into the end zone. None of my concern whether those strangers were fans for Bobby Ross, Marty Mornhinweg, or Rod Marinelli, as long as they put on deodorant we are friends.

I think football is a bit different in that way. I couldn't do Tigers season tickets, even if I was the biggest fan... Eighty-one games. Eighty-one! And those are just the ones you attend, there are 81 more to listen or watch at home. It's just such a grind that I have to applaud those of you who follow them day-in and day-out. And while we make it something of a year-round experience here, and God knows the NFL is capitalizing on us suckers to make it so, it all explodes in a once-weekly three-hour spectacle in the fall, and then it's over. Eight or nine times at home, eight or nine times away. Ford Field sells out every game; even when they were bad they were getting 50-60,000 easy. I can only speculate, but I'm sure there becomes a routine with the Tigers. I know when I was in undergrad, I would go to baseball games because they were free and I would (kind of) study in the mostly empty stands or grass. There was something of a nice routine to it. If my 81-days-a-year thing became overgrown with people who weren't a part of that routine, I could see being annoyed. There just isn't that same routine feel to football.

Where did you see 4%? The lowest I’ve seen is 20%, and the highest I’ve seen is literally double. Like I said earlier, mine went up 73%. I have no real problem with an increase, but I definitely think it could have been done more tactfully.

The back judge is supposed to yell “fair catch” after it’s signaled. But it’s a loud stadium and they’re wearing helmets so that’s imperfect too.

I think this is something of a non-answer. “Done with the season” doesn’t necessarily mean at the end of week 18. I would be surprised if the guy who didn’t play starters at all in the preseason played starters in a meaningless week 18.
