You say “let him” make that trade but I don’t think there is any kind of oversight at the ownership level. I wouldn’t be surprised if Poles has full access to do what he wishes, but I don’t know if that means he’s safe. With Snyder gone I think they’re definitely in the bottom five, alongside Jimmy Haslam, Woody Johnson, David Tepper, and Mark Davis.

I don’t think a one-loss SEC team that doesn’t win the championship gets the grace of years past, unless a couple things fall their way in the other conferences. If any two of Washington, Oregon, Texas, and Florida State win out, I don’t think we see two teams from one conference make it.

1. Matt Eberflus: I think his fate - and Poles - is sealed barring a miracle, but the Bears won’t make a move until the season is over. You don’t go into a new season with two top five picks and let the same guys who’ve screwed up the last ones keep drafting. This will be an appealing destination that I’m sure they will still screw up. 2. Ron Rivera: Likewise, I think it’s over for Rivera and Mayhew short of a miracle. The new ownership will also likely wait until the season is over. 3. Brandon Staley: I put this at #3 only because it sure feels like they have the talent to make a run….. but it’s felt like that for a while. I agree that this is writing that’s been on the wall for a while, and could happen before Black Monday. 4. Bill Belichick: I don’t think his job is guaranteed in 2024. I think Kraft would try to make it Bill’s idea, or a transition to the front office, but it could be a clash of egos. 5. Mike McCarthy: if the Cowboys make another first round exit (or maybe even anything short of the NFCCG), he could be replaced by another Jerry Jones yes-man. Dennis Allen and Todd Bowles are probably warm too and depend to some degree on what happens in the next two months. Brian Daboll, Jonathan Gannon, Frank Reich, and Robert Saleh haven’t inspired confidence in their long-term futures but I doubt they get canned this year. I think LaFleur is safe in Green Bay but that Guntekunst or however it’s spelled is warm for his handling of the Jordan Love pick.

I think the most likely outcome at this point is a 13-0 Georgia, 13-0 Michigan, 13-0 Florida State, and 12-1 Texas One way or another, the PAC-12 will find a way to implode on itself. It has for the last ten years and I don’t know why that would end now. Oregon State will win at least one of its next two against Washington and Oregon to set this year’s implosion into motion.

I think it would be (1) B1G Champ (2) Alabama (3) Oregon (4) Texas, though Georgia would receive far more votes for #4 than they would deserve. Conference championships matter and they should (and likely would) be prioritized over anyone else with one loss. They would want to put in Georgia, but it would require too much gymnastics to put them in above a Texas team that beat the SEC Champ in your scenario.

I think USC and UCLA will struggle mightily entering the B1G. The game is completely different and we actually play defense in this part of the country.
-
If Ole Miss upsets Georgia I wonder if Michigan jumps Ohio State in the rankings to #1. If it’s an 11-0 vs. 11-0 1v2 matchup, Michigan should be #1, on principle of the last two years alone.

I don’t think he was hurt I just don’t think they respected Penn State’s ability to stop the run. And they proved themselves right.
-
It’s being used differently here. There is “yo my mom can pick us up after school” “aw bet that’s sick” and then there is ”The B1G just suspended your head coach 20 hours before the biggest game of the season” ”bet. Watch this.”

This is going well.

In fairness, if you surveyed Ann Arbor residents with a graduate degree, I would guess more than 70% probably have had some connection with the University.

I think they moved the goalposts though. M’s argument wasn’t ‘yeah but what about them they do it too’, it was ‘you’re rushing to judgement about something you don’t understand, this investigation should be much larger than it is if you really want to pick this fight’ Still has a flavor of whataboutism, but the substance of the argument isn’t what the B1G characterized it as.

They filed in Washtenaw Circuit.

A few days ago I said that the idea of Michigan leaving the B1G would be ridiculous. Now? I’m less certain. I don’t see them irrationally joining the ACC or SEC, but it wouldn’t shock me to see them explore the idea of independence. The B1G’s media deal needs Michigan more than Michigan needs conference affiliation. There is no conference loyalty anymore. They could be the next Notre Dame, other than the part where Brian Kelly killed a kid.

A point I saw on Twitter that is actually pretty funny and probably at least a sound legal hypothetical surrounding the penalty to “the institution, but not Jim Harbaugh” Jim resigns as HC, they name 84-year-old Jack Harbaugh as HC. Jack’s first move is hiring Jim Harbaugh as his Assistant HC. Jack then accepts the B1G’s suspension, steps aside, and names Jim the acting HC for the rest of the season.

I’ve been waiting for ESPN to announce the competing lines from FanDuel and BetMGM on whether the injunction gets granted.

Looks like it was typed in a Notes app from an airplane.

This is some bizarre "evidence" they've got. "The Conference also reviewed photos and videos from the public domain (and thus available to the University) that show the staff member dressed similarly to University coaches standing adjacent to and communicating with coaches during games in timeframes in which the impermissible scheme occurred. One photo was taken from the staff member’s since-deleted Instagram account showing him during the October 2, 2021 game at Wisconsin standing shoulder-to-shoulder with the University’s then-defensive coordinator. The photo shows the coordinator focused on the field and the staff member looking intently in the direction of the opposing sideline. There is also video of the staff member watching the opposing sideline during the November 26, 2022 game at Ohio State and then gesturing to the Michigan defense in reaction to the signals being provided to the opposing offense. The Conference also reviewed a video of the staff member during the December 31, 2022 game against TCU standing shoulder to shoulder with the University’s then-defensive coordinator and talking to him while intently watching what was happening on the field and/or on the TCU sideline." So in the Wisconsin game.... a staff member.... in Michigan clothing..... is pictured on the sideline.... next to other coaches? And the OSU video shows him standing on the sideline.... facing the other sideline (i.e., the field)...... and giving signals to others..... And the TCU game... he was on the sideline again..... and he was talking to others...... while "intently" watching the game...... What???

That's not the same email that's in the signature. UMIDs have to be eight characters or less, all letters. Which makes life difficult for the John Smiths of the world. "WardeManuelAD" probably re-directs to an administrative assistant, or another account shared by multiple individuals, to screen out all the nonsense emails that probably get sent his way. The one in the letter is his direct email, with his UMID.
