  2. James Houston is the prototypical one-trick pony. It's a flashy trick though. If you have a roster where you can afford to have a player who is only good for 5-10% of snaps in a game, on 3rd and long and obvious passing downs, then he's great. But he's an absolute liability against the run. Solid rosters aren't going to sacrifice a multi-down depth player who can plug holes to have Houston on the roster. And fans don't get this, which leads to stories like this. Stubborn Matt Eberflus refuses to give Cowboys top performers more snaps
  3. I think in OT Campbell is just the type of guy who is playing for the win no matter what. Getting the ball second means he can finish the game one way or another. If you held them scoreless, go get points. If you held them to a field goal, go get a touchdown. If they scored a touchdown, get your own and go for two. It lets him put the game in the hands of his offense.
  4. Lions should probably top some power rankings this week. Four straight wins by 8+ points, none particularly close.
  5. I agree with both of these points. I think the Mets are going to back up a Brinks truck. But when the Tigers seem to just want to make Skubal the next Felix Hernandez, it’s just disrespectful to who he is as an all-world athlete.
  6. I don’t know why Skubal would want to re-sign with the Tigers when this is the offense they put around him. One hit in six innings. Pathetic.
  7. Me and @sagnamgot dapped up by Loren Strickland postgame. As an aside, sagnam is a wonderful gentleman and I would bring Detroit to Cincinnati with him anytime
  8. Only one Detroit team can pitch a shutout per day.
  9. Nice of the Bengals to give us a second bye week
  10. My internal process went from “Bates can make that!” To “the odds of the Bengals scoring on a 90-yard drive are way less than the odds of Bates missing this”
  11. It feels like the offense is toying with them. The trick play. Resting Decker. Legitimately feels like they said “we can beat them at 50% so why bother giving 100”
  12. I’m not kidding, I wanted to put money on a Monty passing TD yesterday. FanDuel wasn’t offering it.
  13. I found a lone table at Madonna’s Bar and Grill, where the poor bartender is working solo on her third day.
  14. It’s Harlem Globetrotter baseball. Not my cup of tea and don’t understand the allure, but to each their own.
  15. Oh I’m not digging my heels into anything. I have no dog in the Penn State race. I’m just spitballing. RE Harbaugh, you’re not wrong. But I think the brass in A2 knew what they were signing up for when they courted him. And they got what they bargained for.
  16. Finding one with seating is a challenge though! Sea of Honolulu Blue though, I agree.
  17. They escape with a win thanks to Browns ineptitude but I would be very worried if I were a Vikings fan. This doesn’t look like a playoff team.
  18. The Vikings look horrible, particularly on offense. Just completely lost.
  19. That Cleveland D-line is giving him fits. Really remarkable performance last week by the Lions OL and Goff.
  20. I agree, but ignoring what Franklin did to that program isn't right either. The NCAA blows the whole thing up (rightfully so) in 2011. You get two years of mediocrity under Bill O'Brien before Franklin comes in, still under a cloud of a postseason ban and scholarship restrictions (remember when those were a thing?). To buddha's point, they could have easily become Nebraska right then and there. Or worse, SMU. They were on about as thin of ice as possible not just with the NCAA, but with society. National news covered Penn State students protesting the removal of a statute honoring a man who covered up child sexual abuse. It was as ugly as it gets in Happy Valley. There were serious talks in 2011 about kicking them out of the Big Ten! Instead of relegating to irrelevancy though, he's gone 104-42. And while yes, it seems like they are just stuck as the #15 team in the country, perpetually unable to beat teams above their weight class, there are far worse places to be. To counter my own point though, Mark Richt went 145-51 in 15 seasons at Georgia but never won the Natty. They made the move to Kirby Smart and he's won two in nine years. So sometimes you do need to make that change to put yourself over the edge. I just think you're just as likely to put a Luke Fickell, Hugh Freeze, Matt Rhule, or Lane Kiffin in charge, and set your program back 5-10 years.
  21. He's got a lot of pressure, but I think Seattle has more. They saw no hits yesterday from 4-1 in the lineup. If the Tigers can manage to put two runs on the board early (probably not, I know), we may see Ms fans get restless and Ms coaching and players get a little desperate.
