  1. Also DJ Chark and Tee Higgins, two other guys that people have compared Williams against, are barely any better on that score. Yes, sample size matters, yes, timing and trust with the QB matters. This is why it wouldn’t take much for Williams to change the narrative. Maybe Williams is just a busy and maybe DPJ will be an improvement over Williams as the sixth receiving option, but there is no guarantee. But mostly I appreciate the reminder of why I have you on mute. Next time I won’t peek.
  2. TFW you realize DPJ is one of five players in the NFL with a lower catch rate than Jaymo.
  3. Maybe. Looks like on this play ASB went in motion to Jaymo’s side. It’s safe to assume ASB was the primary target and they were looking for Jaymo to pull the safety off. But LA blitzed from the slot and ASB remained double covered, leaving Jaymo wide open. He ended up getting the target late in the route, probably because ASB was primary target and Goff wasn’t expecting slot blitz. Maybe Goff was reluctant to throw to Jaymo but he handled his business this game and if he gets that wide open again I think Goff will be ready to pull the trigger.
  4. I'll beat the horse one more time. (Really I'm not looking for a horse to beat, I'm just procrastinating.) Here is David Montgomery on the Jaymo block: “Definitely, I want to highlight (Williams). That’s the second time this year I’ve been running and Jamo’s been there to lead the way. That takes a lot from him, too, for him to be who he is and be able to run and go block for me. I was running as fast as I was, and he was jogging and he still beat me. I’m a little hurt about that. But I’ll suppress those feelings for later.” He was jogging and he still beat me. Classic. 😂
  5. Not to beat a dead horse but here is Jaymo running wild and free along the Chargers’ 20 yard line with no defender within 10 yards. I feel like a breakout game is close.
  6. Branch, Sutton, and Kerby were the lowest rated players on defense. Something was off on the back end. Holmes did the best he could to fix it but you can’t project your two top defensive signings are both going to miss most of the season with injuries.
  7. The trap game is at Chicago on December 10. But MCDC will just call 60 straight handoffs to keep Goff from having to throw in the swirling winds of Soldier Field.
  8. I sort of agree with this. The problem is that he has struggled to become a precise route runner. (There is a good article about this below.) Holmes drafted him for his speed. If Williams was not a precise route runner coming out of college, that is on Holmes. But often you see highly drafted wide receivers struggle against their coaching staff. We are not seeing this with Williams. Instead, he seems to be improving slightly and doing his part to help the team win. He celebrated as much on that block as he did on his own touchdown that got called back. he seems to have a good attitude and is accepting coaching. I believe he will have a break out game sometime this season. https://www.prideofdetroit.com/2023/11/8/23952008/detroit-lions-film-breakdown-only-solution-ameson-williams-time-on-task
  9. Jaymo didn’t draft himself. Holmes drafted him. If Jaymo got drafted too high, blame Holmes, who also got caught gambling on Levi and maybe also on Broderick Martin. I’m glad to see Jaymo is on the field, getting reps, getting his timing down, and not complaining.
  10. He was today. Edit: Reynolds 4 targets, 2 receptions, 15 yards.
  11. How do we feel about Jaymo today? Two targets, two catches, 18 yards, with one ten yard TD reception nullified by an illegal block where a block didn't actually occur, and a massive block that took out two defenders on Montgomery's TD run. I'd say he had a decent day.
  12. LA is the second best team we will play all season. CJGJ and Houston will be back for playoffs and maybe even for the Dallas game. Philly faces a murderer’s row. Just win baby, take the number one seed and go for it on every fourth down in the playoffs.
  13. Can you deliver a dagger in the 2nd quarter?
  14. Awesome!!! And the block by Jaymo!
  15. The three true outcomes of the forward pass: completion, incompletion, interception. Also, sack. And strip sack. Roughing the passer. Pass interference and defensive holding. And offensive holding. Illegal hands to the face, offense or defense. Maybe the QB hits his thumb on the tackler’s helmet and has to be evaluated in the blue tent. Or hits his head on the turf. Or lacerated spleen. Let’s call it like thirteen true outcomes and see if the nerds can model it. In all seriousness, I prefer that the NFL is a lawyer league rather than a VC/private equity league like MLB has become.
  16. And today we turn our attention to the pro game, where you have to drop back and pass.
  17. He was limping pretty heavily when he came up from a hit in the 4th. But I don’t know what happened before.
  18. https://www.si.com/college/2023/11/11/even-without-jim-harbaugh-michigan-was-too-much-for-penn-state incidentally, this guy says losing Harbaugh was an advantage for the Wolverines.
  19. Imagine the stones it takes to call thirty run plays in a row, especially when you know what a terrible idea it is to run on second down.
