  1. Interesting comments from John Morton today. He has a lot to learn but he's taking things like a man.
  2. I later saw a few other clips of Boras channeling Dr. Seuss while talking about other players, so he was in some kind of a mood. But the way he was talking about Skubal, and the way Skubal was talking, sure make it seem like Skubal wants Detroit to make him a respectable offer. Leaving aside the nursery rhymes, Boras is not talking like an agent who has been told “Get me a record-setting deal or else.”
  3. This sounds like a super agent who has been told to get a deal done with Detroit. But he was doing the same thing with Bregman too, so….
  4. It sure seems like Skubal is asking the Tigers not to trade him, and that he’s told Boras he wants to stay in Detroit. And it seems like Boras has been rattled into talking nonsense by learning that Skubal might not want to go to the highest bidder.
  5. Now would be as good a time as any to see them implode.
  6. Some good news as a lot of those guys are coming back. Davenport, Frazier, Paschal, Reed, Rodriguez. Hutch says he's fine. I suspect they are just resting a lot of people.
  7. Yes, at this point in their careers I am glad to have Goff. I bet if you were to ask 100 players, coaches, GMs, and scouts who you would rather have in their prime, 100/100 would pick Stafford. Many of them would answer before you finished the question.
  8. Amazing that the team is #2 in PPG after half a season filled with what feels like lackluster offensive play.
  9. Today, for a single game, would I swap Goff for Stafford? Absolutely, no questions asked. Today, would I trade Goff for Stafford straight up? I would consider it but no. Stafford’s back is too fragile at this point. As a fan base we may end up (and may already have ended up) preferring Goff over Stafford and that is perfectly reasonable due to the unprecedented success we have had under Goff. But let’s not kid ourselves, Stafford would also dominate with this roster.
  10. MCDC: highest QB under center percentage of any game for Lions this season, highest PA percentage this season. He is back to using the run game to set up the pass game, and back to plays that let Jared take advantage of his pre-snap diagnosis to hit the open man quickly. Keep out of third and long and I like Detroit’s chances.
  11. We all watched Stafford every week and knew he had unmatched arm talent and toughness. It is a shame he didn’t have a more talented roster around him. Glad he won one, and if the Lions don’t win it, I’ll be pulling for him
  12. Florio and Simms this morning: Stafford is not only on HOF trajectory, he is forcing himself into the conversation about the all time greats at QB.
  13. When Dan’s head coaching career is done he will be in demand as the next hot OC prospect.
  14. This team looks good with a chip on its shoulder.
  15. He has all the superficial skills that a talented offensive mind like LaFleur can take advantage of and that casual fans can get excited about. But he has none of the skills of a guy like Jared Goff who processes quickly pre- and post-snap to get the ball where it needs to be. Love has the playground-ball highlight reel, Goff ends up top of the league in all the QB stats that matter.
  16. What’s the deal with Tyleik Williams?
  17. Best outcome. GB loses, Philly looks beatable.
  18. These teams aren’t looking good. Tucker Kraft was GB’s best player. And maybe Lane Johnson is Philly’s best player.
  19. Reading between the lines of what Dan said, he highlighted Morton’s background is as passing game coordinator but hinted he seemed to be struggling to integrate the run game. Nothing we didn’t already know. It was nice to see that this OL can still blow people off the ball, despite some personnel changes. They will need it next week. It was also nice to see Goff get the ball out quickly and decisively. He is like Drew Brees. He relies on pre-snap reads, quick processing, and timing. With the speed this team has, it makes no sense to have Goff hold the ball in the pocket.
  20. Well, when you say it like that....
  21. https://www.prideofdetroit.com/detroit-lions-news/148334/lions-coach-dan-campbell-explains-why-he-took-over-play-calling “When you’re the head coach and you know how you want it to look, it’s one thing to kinda say how you want it to look, but it’s hard to crawl into my head. […] I just know I have a good feel of our players and I know what we’re capable of, I know what they’re capable of,” Campbell said. “John is vital to me. He gives me critical information that deals with the pass game,” Campbell said. “That, number one, is his baby. That’s his bread and butter. That’s one of the things he does well. So I think that’s the best I can say. He’s good. I’m glad he’s here.”
  22. Is anyone surprised that the Steelers are in a 3-2 football game? Aa-Rod looked bumbling on that play.
  23. “Fellas I got some game balls. First one is for a guy who was watching his OC stink it up in the box and decided to take matters into his own hands. Here’s a game ball for yours truly, Dan Campbell.”
