Well, on the second drop back Goff got his pass tipped and picked off. I can understand why they wanted to button it up. I didn’t like that two-play sequence after Ratledge came out. Overall, I think they believe they have more offense than Philly so they want to keep it close and give Philly a chance to lose it before opening up the passing game.

Well, at least we know to avoid FG attempts more than 40 yards.

He got sacked and immediately pointed to his head, begging for a flag. It almost seemed like he considered running then decided just to eat it and hope the refs bailed him out.

He is not a miss, but there is a lot of talent ahead of him. With Laporta out I assume he will get much more playing time the next few games.

All I can find is suspected PCL sprain.

Important point. This is a massive unknown when it comes to evaluating the possibility of offering a contract for a third of a billion dollars.

I'm sure there are players who come up in bad franchises and are eager to move to good ones. I think this franchise generally treats players well (maybe not a third-of-a-billion-dollars well, but we will see). I suspect Skubal also knows he is not likely to find a better manager/pitching coach combo than Hinch/Fetter. He has good catching here too, and it seems generally that it is a good clubhouse. Maybe Skubal could find a better situation somewhere, but there are an awful lot of ways his situation could get worse.

Interesting comments from John Morton today. He has a lot to learn but he's taking things like a man.

I later saw a few other clips of Boras channeling Dr. Seuss while talking about other players, so he was in some kind of a mood. But the way he was talking about Skubal, and the way Skubal was talking, sure make it seem like Skubal wants Detroit to make him a respectable offer. Leaving aside the nursery rhymes, Boras is not talking like an agent who has been told “Get me a record-setting deal or else.”

This sounds like a super agent who has been told to get a deal done with Detroit. But he was doing the same thing with Bregman too, so….

It sure seems like Skubal is asking the Tigers not to trade him, and that he’s told Boras he wants to stay in Detroit. And it seems like Boras has been rattled into talking nonsense by learning that Skubal might not want to go to the highest bidder.
