  1. I thought that was a fumble. Walker lost control of that football before he crossed the goalline.
  2. WOW!!! They are all over Thorne and getting to him is causing him to turn it over!
  3. That was a big first score by Michigan I think. I don't know that they have the offensive firepower to play from behind.
  4. The Dolphins are a trash fire this year and Miami has been the most aggressive in pursuit of Watson. I don't think Watson is turning around the 1-6 Dolphins this season. I get your point though about why Houston would want to wait.
  5. Maybe as a fan I'm just being too fickle then. What gutter tactics though do Ohio State or any of the SEC schools use that would be a line too far for Michigan? It's not like I'm sitting here asking them to go full on Ed Martin or Rick Pitino and start paying players or buying prostitutes for a good time. Over signing? Making commitments and then pulling the commitment later on? Holding unofficial visits? Offering financial incentives to local pastors and high school coaches to steer players in a given direction?
  6. Assuming we keep Decker together with Sewell I think the pieces are there for us to have a good o-line, making this upcoming draft a better time to pick one of the QBs, assuming our front office likes one of them. Our front offices track record of drafting or signing/trading for QBs is both up and down. I would say thanks to John Dorsey though, more up than down. I feel pretty comfortable with Dorsey's QB evaluation skills and hope he is close with Holmes and in his ear when it comes to drafting a QB. Brad Holmes Traded up for Jared Goff - Holmes was in large part responsible for the Rams trading future draft capital, including multiple 1sts, to move up and get Jared Goff. It may have gotten them to a Super Bowl, but in hindsight, it looks like it was more coaching from McVay, Todd Gurley, and the defense that did that was responsible for the Super Bowl run than Goff. I'd call this trade a waste for the Rams in the end, given the draft capital they gave up and the limited time Goff ended up spending with the Rams. Beyond Goff, Holmes has little track record with acquiring QBs for an organization, ours or LA. John Dorsey Scouted and was apart of drafting Aaron Rodgers - When John Dorsey returned to the Packers he came back as their Director of college scouting. As Director of College Scouting he was partly responsible for scouting and encouraging GM Ron Wolf to draft Aaron Rodgers, when they already had another HOF QB on the roster in Brett Farve. It was a big time gamble by Wolf, Dorsey, and co. and it paid off big time in the end. Traded for Alex Smith - Dorsey went and traded a 2nd round pick and another conditional pick to get the Chiefs Alex Smith when he was their GM. While Smith was an average to slightly above average starter for the Chiefs it is what Dorsey did next with him that was his best move. Drafted Patrick Mahomes - Dorsey did what he did in Green Bay which was draft another young, high ceiling prospect in Patrick Mahomes, when he had a starter already on the roster. Sitting Mahomes behind Smith seemingly gave the guy a full year to learn the playbook, adjust to the NFL game speed, and grow as a player. This move obviously paid off as it got the Chiefs a top 2-3 QB in the league. Great move again by Dorsey to take the gamble and win. Drafted Baker Mayfield - I liked Baker coming out of college and so did John Dorsey because he picked him when others around the league were clamoring for the Browns to take Darnold or Rosen. Baker is clearly better than Darnold and Rosen but I'm not sure what to make of the Browns under Baker Mayfield's tenure as QB. Are they and is he the team that was a game away from an AFC Championship last year or are they more the team of this season? Injuries have certainly hampered Cleveland this year, so it may not be fair to judge Baker when half his offensive line and offensive weapons are out injured.
  7. No. If he fails tomorrow and then again against Ohio State he's gotta go. 0-2 against Mel Tucker is unacceptable and 0-40 against Ohio State or whatever it is at this point, is a downright disgrace,
  8. I got a lousy ass 11 points from Murray in my fantasy league last night. On top of that, I had Davante Adams who ended up on the covid list. I'm destined to lose this week.
  9. I agree that you can't afford to burn a 2nd/3rd/4th on taking a QB, so it's either 1st or wait until the 5th or later. And given where we are picking, assuming we don't trade back, we're either taking one of Corral/Pickett/Willis at #1 or we aren't getting them at all. If we trade up from our second 1st rounder we could possibly get one of, but I think by the time pick #15 or so roles around all three will be gone.
  10. If we are taking a QB I either want it in the 1st round or 5th and later. This team has so little talent and they can't afford to burn a pick in the 2nd, 3rd or 4th rounds on a QB who isn't going to be the future of this franchise. As Buddha mentioned for every Russell Wilson there are 10 Davis Webbs and CJ Bethards, seemingly mediocre at best backup QBs. Barring a really late season/combine riser, I think we are either picking a QB at #1 or after a trade back of a few spots or we aren't picking one at all this year. Besides the Lions, there are too many QB hungry teams in this year's draft to be able to get one of Corrall, Pickett, or Willis anywhere past the top 15-20 IMO. Broncos, Falcons, Football Team, Panthers, Steelers all could take QBs this year. I'm moving towards the camp of either take one with the #1 pick or don't take one at all this year in the first 4 rounds. If Holmes and Co. believe that Corral, Pickett, or Willis look like they can be molded into solid NFL starters, then I'll trust their judgement taking one of them #1 overall. I think I'm out on Carson Strong and Sam Howell at this point, but maybe with a strong combine and good reporting about their football IQ and skills I could move back in. Maybe.
  11. If Michigan loses on Saturday and then goes and gets trucked by Ohio State, does Harbaugh deserve to keep his job at 10-2?
  12. I would never draft Tennessee Senator Lamar Alexander. I don't think he can make all the throws.
  13. Call your shot, who wins the game? I am going to go with Michigan. As much as I don't trust Harbaugh in big games, and why should anyone given his paltry record, but I think Michigan's defensive dominance will play a big factor in why they win. Their defensive performance under Mike McDonald this season feels different than at any time under Dr. Blitz. If they can limit the running game for MSU and get after the QB and put pressure on Payton Thorne and make him have to scramble and improvise they are going to win this. I don't think Payton Thorne can be asked to beat this Michigan defense. Take away his running game and get him under duress and you can win this thing because you have an offense that is led by a game managing QB who doesn't turn the ball over. MSU has also flown by the seat of their pants in several games this year, Nebraska most notably. Facing a defense like Michigan's, this could be the week it finally catches up with them.
  14. As a Lions fan, if you were in town in Detroit for a game or visiting whomever, would you and a group of buddies pay $50 or so a ticket to take a tour through the museum/hall of shame? An unscientific poll of my friends and coworkers almost everyone said they would go at least once. I think the average fan would go at least once. I think they'd get a kick out of to seeing an exhibit where Monty Clark is praying while Eddie Murray kicks and misses the field goal or where Germaine Crowell stays inbounds and runs out the clock. We don't have good memories to elicit as a franchise, so this would be a loveable, laughable nostalgia trip for fans I think.
  15. If one were able to secure the $100k capital necessary to use the NFL name and branding, do you think the NFL and Lions would license out their name, likeness, branding, and trademarks to start up my business idea? What I want to do is open up the Detroit Lions: SOL Museum of Futility downtown Detroit. The idea would be much like a regular museum. One in which fans can walk through various interactive displays and go through guided tours to learn more about the tortured history and futility of the Detroit Lions. The museum would consist of various sections including a gift shop, bar & grill restaurant, and of course the museum exhibits themselves. Each exhibit would be broken down into decades. Each decade would have all-time SOL moments on display. There, fans can read about and watch various moments of futility associated with this franchise. From the 1950s and the Fords buying the team to give to William Clay Ford to the 1980's and the Lions drafting a Fullback over a franchise QB in Jim Kelly to the 1990s and Barry Sanders retiring via a fax to the 2000s with Matt Millen and Marty taking the wind to the 2010s to the 2010s and Jim Schwartz throwing a challenge flag when he couldn't. If it is an SOL moment, it will be on full display. As a fan you get to walk through the maze of mediocrity, decade by decade and witness SOL history. At the end of your trip you go through to the giftshop where you can buy SOL memorabilia. You can get ticket packages that include autographed paper bags to put over your head, signed by by all time SOL greats, like Scott Mitchell, Wayne Fotnes, Germaine Crowell, Marty Mornhinweg, Matt Millen, Martin Mayhew, Matt Patricia, and others. So, do you think the NFL will be receptive to this idea and license out their and the Lions trademarks and such to start this museum? Also, as a Lions fan, if you like in Metro Detroit or were in-town visiting, would you check out the museum if such a thing were to become a reality?
  16. Here's the full movie if anyone wants to give Coherence a watch . . .
  17. I watched a fantastic and unique sci-fi/horrorish movie over the weekend called Coherence. The movie is shot in the Director's living room, has a small cast of only 8, and looks low budget. But let me tell you, the plot is really clever and it requires you to connect a lot of dots and follow a lot of moving pieces as you go along. So while it is low budget, the writing, plot, and acting makes for a really intriguing movie. Imagine if you existed as you, but in other dimensions of the universe. Now imagine you were going to a dinner party with friends, and different versions of you and your friends crossed over into the dimension you are currently living in and showed up at the dinner party, in your current dimension. Now imagine you ended up at the wrong dinner party in the wrong dimension. That's basically where this film is going and it does a great job twisting and turning to make you think critically and connect all the moving parts together.
  18. I don't take any TE in the first round unless you can promise me they are Kelce or Gonzalez or Gronk 2.0 and even then, I'm skeptical. I crapped all over the pick at the time and wanted one of Brian Burns, Montez Sweat, Devin Bush, and yeah, Ed Oliver. Sure, Ed Oliver seems like a bust, but I would love to have one of Burns/Sweat/Bush on this horrid defense. Hopefully the new regime has a no TE's in the first round philosophy haha.
  19. No way does Willis get past the Broncos, Falcons, Football Team, Panthers, and Texans unless he absolutely bombs out the rest of the season and/or at the combine. It's probably too early to say this, but I think if we want Willis it's either take him #1 overall or trade back up into the top 10-11-12 to get him.
  20. I still like the idea of what Malik Willis could become,: our Josh Allen, Deshaun Watson, or Lamar Jackson. He has all the physical tools of a modern NFL QB. He's got a cannon for an arm, can make all the throws, good enough size, athleticism for days, and mobility inside and out of the pocket to create plays and extend drives. He also seems to be a good kid without any of the Dwayne Haskins or Ryan Mallet type off the field or mental health issues. He seems like the type of player who would be receptive to NFL coaching, willing to listen and grow. The things he struggles with as far as some of his mechanics, decision making and willingness to gamble a little too much can be worked on and fixed. Remember Josh Allen coming out of Wyoming. He was seen as a risky pick because of his decision making, bad habits and a completion % that was below 60% and he's turned around to be one of the leagues elite QBs. Willis has all the same physical tools Allen had with a big arm, mobility, and athleticism. I'm still tempted to take Willis #1 overall and pass on Thibodeaux.
  21. He's got Hockenson to throw to and lately he doesn't even seem to be going to him much. He's become a Checkdown Charlie and worse yet, he's not even good at the checkdown play calls.
  22. Or Colin Kapernick. But yeah. it was a pointless trade for them and it would be pointless for the Lions to try and bring someone in to push Goff at this point.
