Watching the KC v Denver game, I think I might just about be ready for new PI rules. Tossing the ball up hoping for a bailout is getting old. The PI that setup the KC TD was marginal at best. So tired of it. I’m so glad we don’t do that crap. Being unable to excute a play shouldn’t be rewarded.

Ducks acting cowardly at the end.

The tv broadcast pointed out 2 shots taken to the face. That or getting tripped at the end of the 2nd.

That 2-0 was wild. Both teams are playing sloppy late in the 3rd. Ducks especially.

That’s a cool attitude to have. I’m glad that he’s not calling plays anymore and I hope he learns from this and becomes a great play caller in the future. That being said there is nothing wrong with being a great offensive staffer and never actually get good at calling plays. I hope he keeps that positive attitude and sticks around in whatever capacity he helps the most.

Look at those redzone numbers. Seems like the key for the Lions is to keep them out, because once they are in the redzone we are toast. Maybe a secondary is getting them into 3rd downs.

Also, seems similar to the Lions Packers last year and going for it in 4th instead of kicking the tying field goal. The Lions were playing to win. Again, the play call was questionable on Monday, and while the play didn’t work the outcome was what they wanted. The Lions’ play last year was almost a disaster too with Goff handing the ball off from one knee. Sirainni is a questionable coach and they play was crap. I just don’t think the decision was that simple.

If it weren’t for all the AJ Brown drama I’d say you are right. But given his current mental state I’d say there’s more to it than that. I want to be clear that I don't think they were like, let’s test Brown’s commitment to the team here. I think they were just as surprised by his effort as the fans were the players call. I'm pretty sure that breaking the huddle he knew the ball was coming. I think Brown just doesn’t give AF right now. Like his thought was you wait all game to get me the ball and now it’s this 50/50 ball. i could be wrong. He did tell all his fantasy owners to drop him.

Just saw the play again. Didn’t actually overthrow it like I remembered. AJ Brown just didn’t put any effort into catching that pass at all. Wild. Probably should have punted. That would have been the safest bet. It also took the game out of his team’s hands, so I at least understand the thought. In this league, expecting your best WR to win a 1-on-1 or draw a DPI is not a terrible call, it’s just much more of a risk. Throwing the ball to your tantruming child of a WR was probably the bigger mistake. At least they found out they can’t count on him when the team absolutely needs him now, in a game they won in the middle of the season, rather than in an elimination game. Probably should have just punted.

Speaking of silly stances. The Eagles sure did make a mistake on the Phillips trade! Morons! Cost them one loss already. Nah, that’s feels gross. Honestly, you can’t take most of these decisions out of context and immediately after they are made and start grandstanding. Unless it’s the Watson trade.

I think that was the plan too. Hurts overthrew it, he needed to throw something contested to possibly draw one of the ridiculous DPI calls that are so common.

I will never understand why they have elderly people working security at these events. That guy coming in from the left got rocked being as unathletic as he is.

The rule is working to fix the problem it was designed to address, returns. And it’s closer to actual football than the old kickoff rules that featured wedges and wedge busters. I’m curious if someone can figure out a way to incorporate surprise onside kicks. I think maybe adjusting the landing zone to allow for shorter onside kicks and to make receiving team blockers play off the line. That might lead to slightly less yardage on each return, if the coverage team can get a little more depth before reaching a blocker and clogging up return lanes. Honestly, the rule is pretty good if one doesn’t pine for the good old days that really were that great.

Kane failing to score on the wide open net was a backbreaker.

I stand by the comment that many players in this league can be had for the right price. It might be way more than you are willing to pay, but they can. Some of those middling players might only be moved for an insane return. It’s not as simple as no one is tradable or everyone is available. The truth lies in between. All too often you see decent players moved for mid-round picks. This is a talented roster, no doubt. It’s also one with injuries. Sure almost every team is dealing with injuries, it’s a violent sport. That is not a reason to throw out the whole idea. It’s actually justification to acquire more or improved depth. Both tackles are hurt, Decker is tough and fighting through injuries, Sewell was on the ground in pain multiple times last week. Both guards are hurt. Ratledge went to the locker room before Mahogany got seriously hurt. Over half of the secondary is out. We played a game a few weeks ago with nobodies in the secondary by the end. I have no idea who’s after Skipper with Manu out. We don’t have another guard. We have a Colon backing up center. I don’t think there is any chance Glasgow goes back to guard if more guys go down, we’d have an even less talented center then. Again, I don’t have the answer. I don’t know who was available. I am saying that doing nothing is a decision too. It’s a choice and we should consider that choice when we look back on the season. I think it’s too common that questioning decisions is met with outlandish rhetoric.

I feel like you are being very reasonable and you are getting met with logical fallacies. I agree with you. We don’t know what conversations were had with other teams, who was available and for what price. We also don’t know what the situation internally looks like for the player’s already on the team. None of that negates what you are saying. The team stood pat. Everything that happens from here out this season needs to be framed from that decision. We know that almost any player can be had for the right price, with the obvious exceptions (Mahomes, Allen, etc). We aren’t talking about the proverbial untouchables. We are talking about the middling players that other teams can replace and that are an upgrade for the Lions. They exists. Whatever the price, if discussed at all, choosing not to pay it should have an effect on our perception of the season, and the GM in particular. Winning it all now or in the near future would obviously confirm his decision making process and put an end to this discussion. That really should go without saying. Anything less should be questioned. Not questioned in the sense of replacing anyone. The team can be wildly successful and still not win it all. Questioned in the hopes that, short of a championship, they can shift the philosophy. While sacrificing the current season’s best possible chance of success in favor of retaining the chance of future success has worked in filling the roster with talent, it hasn’t led to the ultimate goal. It hasn’t even gotten them to the Super Bowl.
