That's a completely unrealistic expectation. Keep in mind when looking at previous contracts like Samuel, Hill, Brown etc., those were all during lower cap times and those guys are quite a bit older than Amon-Ra. The Lions are getting him right locked up right at the beginning of his prime while those are getting paid at the back end of their prime.

I disagree, who signed in the offseason that reset the market? Davonta Smith? Amon-Ra was getting $28m+ no matter what.

I get it. Most RBs don't get a 2nd contract with their initial team and most RBS aren't the focal points of the offense, same with TE. It takes a special RB and TE to be worth being taken that high, like Gibbs and LaPorta even though LaPorta wasn't a high pick but moreso that in future years when teams are contemplating taking Tight Ends with a high 1st, the sentiment will be "They better be the next LaPorta to be worth it".

Anybody who is being honest will admit that they were miffed by the Gibbs pick for the most part. I'm sure there were a few that were onboard with the pick at the time but most of us were baffled at him being picked that high, same with Campbell. TBH, it seemed like most weren't happy with the LaPorta pick either although I liked him. Branch was the one pick that was universally liked at the time. Long story short.... Trust In Brad Holmes and not us armchair scouts.

Barton is almost universally being mocked in the 1st round but... you never know. I'd be all in on him if he dropped to 29. Same with Newton, don't see him dropping to 29 but if he did you go snatch him up needs be damned.

Yeah, the argument that he played with trash his entire time as a Lion is bogus, I never understood it. Granted, Goff currently has a better supporting cast than Stafford ever did offensively from players to coaches but Stafford has one of the best receivers of all time to throw to, Tate and a defense that was borderline top 10 a few years. Not blaming Stafford for the zero playoff wins but it's not like he didn't play on teams that weren't capable of making a playoff run. In terms of top 3 Lions of all time, I'd say that Barry and Calvin have to be a top 3 then it could be a whole bunch of guys that I never saw play. Layne, Barney, Karras, Sims maybe?

Apparently there's issues with his work ethic and that he's not a willing tackler. If true and it's a big IF because draft rumors are usually grains of salt, there's zero chance that he's on the Lions board at all. Holmes is unpredictable in terms of his draft board vs. the consensus and trade ups/downs but in terms of the type of player he likes, he's very predictable. If the player doesn't love and breathe football and doesn't have the necessary grit, he will not be taken by the Detroit Lions.

They need a complete reset moreso than any other NBA franchise right now even the Pistons simply because the Pistons at least have some growth potential with the young guys, the Hawks maxed out a few years ago and are now stuck in no mans' land. Trae Young is not a winning player, get what you can for him and move on.

I didn't realize that they were paid that little in the WNBA, this is a #1 pick salary. Hell, that's in the range of what I make. No wonder these ladies are staying in college nowadays, NIL is surely more fruitful than this. Regardless, Clark is going to clean up with endorsements but, still, that's a shockingly low salary.

It's extremely unlikely that DeJean is there at 29 and that Legette will be there at 61. I'd have no issue taking Legette at 29 tbh.

As an Edmonton Oilers and Pistons fan who isn't the biggest Holland fan although he has done some real good in Edmonton, Holland had an infinite amount of credibility compared to Weaver. Putting aside his accomplishments in the first half of his Wings tenure in particular, Holland was also one of the most respected GMs in the league and was massively connected throughout NHL circles. Weaver will be lucky to find another NBA job at least as head GM, he might land an assistant job perhaps back with Presti in OKC.

So they hire a new President but he has to keep Weaver? How is that a "sweeping" change. Imagine going 74-244 and actually keeping your job? This would be like coming in late to your job like 3-4 times a week for 4 years and getting a vote of confidence that your job is safe. Tom Gores ladies and gentlemen.

I don't know much about the last 2 names, meh on Horst and Hammond but for the hilarity of it, I'd love it if Gores hired Casey as PoBO just so I can manically laugh like Walter White in his crawl space (for those who know the Breaking Bad reference) and to see the fallout from fans and media to that decision. Only Gores hiring himself or Arn Tellem as President would be funnier/sadder?

Coleman doesn't pass the turd test so I highly doubt he's on the Brad/Dan radar. I don't see any of those pass rushers getting out of the teens even (although who knows). Darius Robinson seems like a popular pick for the Lions at 29, I'm a bit skeptical of him though. Not a great sample size of production, same with Chop Robinson. I agree on guard/center. I know Frank was taken late 1st but I prefer to get those guys in the middle rounds, I want more of a playmaker at 29 whether it's receiver, corner or EDGE.

I like him too or Powers-Johnson as well because in addition to being a good player, a guy like "Powers" is destined to be a great offensive lineman. I just really want a dynamic playmaker on either side of the ball and Legette is a guy I've always really liked and felt he's been undervalued because he's relatively unproven but....if they want to strengthen the offensive line for the next 10 years I'm good with that.

I know the Lions are good now so there isn't nearly as much draft talk but since we're under 2 weeks now, I'd like to get the pulse of Motownlions to see who you guys like, your draft crush or which positions you prefer that the Lions target. My crush is Legette, he gives me serious Deebo vibes and he definitely fits the Holmbell grit quota. I know that offensive line and corner are long term needs and short term in the case of corner but I really want to see a playmaker with the 1st rounder whether it be receiver or EDGE rusher.

I don't think the fans care enough to. In any event, This is the worst season I've ever witnessed of any sports team of mine, even worse than the 0-16 Lions because at least there was a Stafford to look forward to and that team had zero expectations of doing anything, they weren't Year 4 of rebuild and still won literally nothing. The previous 3 you can understand because they were true rebuild years and there was some progress to be talked about at least, there were a few years post-Isiah that were really rough but they immediately got Grant Hill out of it then they got competitive pretty quickly. 2010-2020 was rough but there were a few competitive seasons thrown in there even if there was no hope for them to be anything more than mid. This season from the record losing streak to injuries to the worst coaching job I've ever seen to whatever the hell this roster has been since Casper Grimes, Ausar, Stewart, Tech and now Cade have been shut down to Gores sounding like a bumbling idiot blaming the fans for not appreciating the Pistons for their community work to the lack of progress from just about all the young guy, all leading up to one of the worst ever drafts and free agency classes with not much on the trade market (as of now) to be excited about. Yeah,...pretty pretty pretttty bad.

I wouldn't be shocked to see him take Clingan if/when they drop to 4 or 5.

J&J need to go. Been saying that pretty much all season, low IQ limited skill players that get by on athleticism and pretty much athleticism alone. Keep the high IQ duo of Cade and Ausar, keep Fontecchio as a 3 and D, Sasser and Stewart off the bench and fill out the rest of the roster with the Ivey and Duren trade returns, the draft pick and a few capable vets through free agency. Their trade value, Ivey's in particular, might have already deteriorated but they should do it now before the rest of the league is wise to what they are. I hate to say it because there's a bundle of talent with both but they, one, don't fit here and, two, are never likely to play winning basketball.
