  1. I was reading on another board that Jazz fans really like him fwiw and apparently there were a lot of suitors so this could be a decent addition. Seems like a bit of an overpay to add a very high 2nd (just about a late 1st) in addition to Knox for him but this draft is trash anyway so why the hell not. Maybe they have something with this guy.
  2. There's no way that you get Goff, Hunter and J. Reynolds for that cheap. Those numbers aren't even close IMO. Even old Gilmore will probably get more than that coming off his best season in a while. I also think Ra will get north of $100m on a 4 year deal.
  3. The Reynolds drops had nothing to do with the Niners talent. Those two drops were massive gamechangers. I fully believe that if Reynolds catches that first 4th down, the Lions win this game and probably not by an insignificant margin. The 3rd and 10 drop he was WIDE open and Goff put it right into his chest, that had nothing to do with talent, and that could have stemmed the momentum at 24-24 then who knows. The Gibbs fumble was him going the wrong way on the handoff and losing full grip of the ball, that was a mental error not a lack of talent. One can argue that Vildor not making that catch was due to lack of talent at the position so that one I'd agree on.The Niners made some plays after the gifts and they're the more talented team on paper but the Lions coughed this one up. The Niners got really lucky that the Lions choked. In any event, what's done is done so we'll see how Holmes plugs the holes this offseason because this was a golden opportunity missed by the Lions with a team that just seemed to have destiny on their side with a fairly undermanned roster compared to The Final 4 teams at least. It's going to get harder next season, the division isn't soft anymore and the schedule, on paper, looks tougher so hopefully the Lions are up to the challenge.
  4. Isn't that the thing though? He's always injured. Also, those are nice numbers but there's also some stat padding in there when games were out of reach. He's been poor in clutch situations most of the season. Not all on him but he just doesn't have that ability, it appears, to elevate and carry a team when they really need him. I saw more of that ability in him in his rookie season and he seems to have lost his way in the important moments since.
  5. No doubt that San Francisco was the more talented team but talent isn't why they lost the game. The Lions completely gave it away combined with bad luck, they weren't overwhelmed by any means. A drop on 4th down, a bounce off the helmet right into Aiyuk's hands, a fumble on a botched hand off, a drop on 3rd and 10 at 24-24, that's your ballgame right there in 4 quick botched plays in a matter of a few minutes. The Lions handed it to them on a silver platter, a honolulu blue and silver platter. The Niners got extremely lucky, flat out. One of the luckier wins that I've ever seen in a big game. With that said, there's some critical areas of the team that absolutely need a talent infusion so you don't have guys like Vildor in a position to not make a play on a ball, a #2 like Sutton getting shredded weekly by top receivers and no pass rush unless you're sending extra guys.
  6. The lack of progression in Cade's game, and in fact some regression, is probably the most disheartening thing about this season since he's the biggest key to their future because it's looking more and more like he's not going to be the franchise player that he was drafted to be. Scottie Barnes is looking like a significantly better player, who would have ever thought that?
  7. Same thing with Campbell at LB. He's white so he's gotta be slow. I'd love for the Lions to get Dejean but I don't think he'll be there at 29.
  8. Does it matter when it's vets that are keeping them in the game and the youth that's getting pummeled? What a waste of a season. Also, it was funny to see Ivey finally get the chance to drive a ball in the 4th after all the Bogey and Burks chucks and Cade pounding the ball and missed layup possessions then Monty calls a timeout right when Ivey was driving the ball and sets up a play for Burks to get the ball in the corner as the shot clock was winding down only to get a shot clock violation. Also, Sasser with a whole 10 minutes of action even with Killian out and refusing to put a real defender on Mitchell when he was going off (Ausar maybe? perhaps?). I don't think I've ever disliked a Pistons coach more and there's a long line of ones to dislike over the last 15 years.
  9. I don't understand why Glenn gets blamed then in the same token you say how awful the CBs are. I think AG gets way more blame than he should. IMO, he doesn't have good enough/experienced enough personnel to run a conventional defense that can survive in this league so what he did, smartly, is acknowledge that after around the second Packers game and started blitzing more knowing that the defense would give up big plays but also forcing the QB into more mistakes so what happened was that while offenses had more big plays down the field the defense created a lot more turnovers and the points against went down a bit as a result. There's only so much he could do with a defense that was littered with youth, had vets (Sutton and Vildor) in over their head and no pass rushers to speak of outside of Hutch. I don't think Sutton should be cut, he struggled because due to the Moesley injury he was thrust into #1 CB duty which he's ill equipped to handle. He'll be better when, I assume, Holmes gets a #1 CB this offseason and pushes Sutton back to #2 CB where he belongs.
  10. Likely but we don't really know what he is yet and the coach is very inconsistent with how he displays him so hard to tell what he can become if given more opportunity.
  11. Huge news, keeping this continuity will really pay dividends next season. Poor TP in shambles.
  12. I can't see it being that low but that would be a nice break for the Lions if he does take less.
  13. I'm going to call out an opinion when it's not based in reality. You know who were pure pocket passers? Brady, Manning, Brees. Arguably the 3 best QBs of their generation that won Superbowls. Which of those guys escaped the pocket and threw on the run? Which of those guys was slinging sidearm throws on the regular? Which of those guys ran for 1st downs more than a handful of times? I'm not saying he's as good as those guys but that's the type of QB those guys were, the type of QB that won multiple Superbowls. You don't like Goff because he doesn't fit the prototype QB that you prefer and that's fine because everybody has their preferences but what is not fine is saying that he's a game manager at best. Game managers aren't around top 5 in nearly every passing categories including deep passes completed btw. He has led a top 5 offense in not only one but two seasons here. He also led a top offense with the Rams, he also led a top offense with Cal. He's won at every stop with different head coaches, different coordinators, different supporting casts. Yes, Goff has limited mobility, Goff is not going to WOW you with flashy plays but the guy has been ultra effective at every stop and has been a consistent winner. You don't like him? You don't think the Lions can win with him? (which is silly since they damn near just made a Superbowl with him). Well, good luck finding a QB as good as him, a guy who has been a top 10 QB in this league. Also, Goff was NOT the reason they lost yesterday. Anybody who thinks that has a clear agenda. The offense scored 31 points and this is including at least 4-5 critical drops that I remember off the top of my head. Josh Reynolds makes a catch on that 4th down and the Lions probably go on to win this game. Josh Reynolds makes a catch on 3rd and 10 that was right in his chest, the Lions stem the momentum at 24-24. Jamo makes a catch that sailed right through his hands down 27-24 then they're up 31-27. Ridiculous that anybody would blame Goff for the loss yesterday. 4 TDs and 0 INTs in the playoffs, no turnovers in 3 games and we have people saying he's not good enough. It's silly season here already and the offseason just began.
  14. Now I'm starting to understand, you have an agenda against Goff. It all makes sense now as to why you would blame Goff on that 4th down throw. "Game manager at best". Laughable comment for a guy who was statistically a top 5-7 QB all season.
  15. Goff put that in the only spot where Reynolds could have caught it. The defender was right on Reynolds, not behind him. A throw into his gut gets broken up. Goff was definitely good yesterday, very good even. He missed a few throws like the flea flicker to Reynolds, one notable one to LaPorta in the Red Zone and Gibbs he missed in the End Zone on a drive that they scored a TD anyway. Other than that, Goff played a very good game and was let down by his receivers time and time again or else the stats would look a lot better.
  16. They need to stash a lot of that money for extensions to core players. It'll be more of the same as the last 3 offseasons, 1 year deals and heavy on draft picks filling roles. Now that the Lions are contenders, I think Holmes needs to start thinking need at the draft instead of BPA.
  17. This guy especially needs to be gone. Ran his mouth all season and was a complete dud when it mattered, got run right over on a few notable occasions in the playoffs. Nothing worse than a constant trash talker who can't back it up. The Lions are good at safety anyway. Holmes objective, and I know he loves to go BPA regardless of position in the draft, is to snag an outside corner and pass rusher opposite of Hutch. Also, need to shore up the O-Line depth with Decker and Ragnow getting older. Team is close but has a few very obvious holes.
  18. The schedule is harder next season (on paper, we'll see how the offseason plays out), the division can only go up from here really. This year it was a Vikings team without their QB, a Packers team with a QB who was just starting to figure things out and a Bears team that started to figure things out late in the season. I'm not saying that the Lions can't be back in this position next season because... of course they can, but the stars sort of aligned for them this season with an easier schedule, a division in transition and getting a team like the Bucs at home in a divisional round. I think the road to get back to near the top is usually tougher than the first time you get there.
  19. This is how I see it and is why it's hard for me to get over this loss and just say that the team will be back here again because the future is bright. The reality is that unless you have one of those generational QBs that is pretty much an auto-ticket to the Championship game at minimum every season or a team like San Fran with ridiculous talent at every position, there is no guarantee that you ever get back there so you need to take advantage when you do. I really like Goff, I love the young talent and head coach but with a tougher schedule, tougher division and with the Lions certain to have a target on their back now it's going to be even more difficult to get back to this spot again. It's possible that the Lions could have a better team, on paper, next season and have a worse season. You just never know in the NFL, there's so much change from year to year outside of the very top teams. This one is going to sting for a while.
  20. I love Campbell but it doesn't mean that he should be above criticism. Sorry if that bothers you but this is a message board so we're all allowed opinions here.
  21. I need time to come around on this my friend, this one hurts really bad in the moment. I'm sure you understand.
  22. This is the NFL. If your kicker can't hit a 45 yarder then what the **** are you employing him for. Give me a break
  23. You absolutely can. His foolish bravado on that 4th down completely changed the momentum, you kick the 45-47 yard FG there to go up 27-10. No brainer I love him as coach but he cost them there.
  24. I don't know if I'll ever get over this game. The season, which should have been considered wildly successful regardless of this result, somehow feels like a failure now. Only the Lions can find a way to cap an incredible season like this with a collapse like this. Maybe I'll look at the season more fondly the further we get from today but right now, it feels like a failure in a game that was right there for them to take. I blame Campbell for foolishly going for it up 24-10 and in FG range, completely turned the game right there and then.
