Week Eleven: Detroit Lions (6-3) @ Philadelphia Eagles (7-2)
NYLion replied to MichiganCardinal's topic in Detroit Lions
I don't see this as a should win game at all. No doubt that Sirianni made one of the worst calls in NFL history with that egregious 4th down call against Green Bay but this is the defending Superbowl Champs with a loaded roster that knows how to play big games so this will be the hardest game of the season for the Lions to win IMO. They definitely can win because they are also loaded with talent but they've struggled all season against physical teams on the road so this one has me nervous. -
Can't believe they won that game. everything was pointing to a loss and I tuned out before the end only to check the final score after the fact in shock. I get why Cade felt the onus to take over the offense with all the injuries but when you miss that many shots you have to know when to say when. Anyway, they clearly aren't as good as their record indicates IMO but I'm going to enjoy it while it lasts. I'd like to see what this team can do when healthy with Ivey of course being the biggest X Factor

Cade played like a star in that 4th quarter. Can you imagine if this team got a legit #2 option to pair with Cade? They're already a good team as is but they're close to something REALLY good.

Week Ten: Detroit Lions (5-3) @ Washington Commanders (3-6)

And Ben Johnson stopped giving the ball to Gibbs after he killed the Commanders in the 1st quarter. Plus Jayden Daniels and McLaurin played in that game -

Hard to tell which is true today, that Dan Campbell is a much better playcaller than John Morton or that the Commanders are really bad? Probably both -

You said they only played one good team and got their doors blown off, I was just saying that they beat the Rockets who qualify as a really good team (lots of folks have them as title contenders). Yes the schedule has been soft otherwise. -

Did you miss the Rockets game? The Magic also had a lot of hype coming into the season with a very talented roster. I know you're skeptical by nature and, yes, they've had a pretty easy schedule but the Pistons have had some good wins. With that said, they're going to need to add some shooting or at least a reliable second scorer if they want to be considered a real contender. Right now, they're a playoff contender and a really fun team to watch but I can't classify them as a top tier team until they show the ability to shoot at a high level an execute a half court offense in tight 4th quarter games, something they still struggle with. -

As a long time Duren skeptic, he's really stepped it up this season albeit against a fairly soft schedule. If he can add that little floater and mid range jumper to his arsenal, he has big time offensive potential because he's elite at finishing at the rim. You can live with his defensive inconsistencies if he can bring that level of offense because the Pistons have enough plus defenders around him to hide him on the defensive end. He's a very intriguing player, huge upside if he can add those offensive moves away from the rim. He's also an underrated passer. I'd like to see how he fares against better teams before thinking about extending him long term but he's a special talent. -
It's about adding depth not necessarily upgrading because, as you said, real upgrade are costly but some depth guys on the defensive and offensive lines could have been out there. We all know the offensive line issues and the D-line at edge is Hutch, a relatively unproven AQM and two bandaids, it wouldn't have hurt to bring in some insurance, can never have enough pass rushers. With that said, there were no real options out there that truly move the needle so there's no need to be overly critical of Holmes. Ultimately the Lions have a very talented team capable of making a run and every team outside of maybe the Rams have some real question marks so it's all there for the taking for the Lions. I think the coaches need to scheme better. I think Morton has been very poor at adjusting, we saw no adjustments against the ultra aggressive Tampa and Minnesota defenses, just a bunch of Goff drop backs with no time to throw. He needs to be better as does Fraley with the blocking schemes up front.

I don't think that's true, the O-line concerns have been prevalent all season. Green Bay, Kansas City, Tampa Bay and Minnesota games they've been owned with three of these teams being legit contenders, the type of teams that they have to go through to win in the playoffs. It's been a problem all season and even moreso now with the injuries piling up. With that said, it's very hard to acquire quality offensive linemen in season so the Lions were always going to ride or die with this group. Frankly, I'm very concerned about the offensive line and it's a major roadblock to SB contention.

Is this based on what the Bears are doing? Keep in mind that they've played the Cowboys, Commanders, Ravens with all their injuries and no Lamar, Raiders, Bengals and Saints so....yeah, consider me unimpressed. Also, he had Ragnow and Zeitler with the Lions which makes a massive difference because the offensive line is everything in this offense. Ben is a good coach but I don't think he's the biggest reason why the offense has been more inconsistent and a big asterisk needs to be put next to the Bears good offensive season.

He seems to be more in control this season. The tech he got today was justified, stepping in for his teammate.

Stew always brings it, I consider him a part of the core tbh. He's an invaluable player for this squad.

Week Nine: Minnesota Vikings (3-4) @ Detroit Lions (5-2)

I have to call you out for this because usually I ignore your ridiculous rants, this is a completely moronic take and I know that's your thing but to call Dan Campbell a loser? You deserve the 2008 Lions or to be a Browns fan which is fitting for your posting style. -

The Lions were far inferior today, butts kicked in every aspect. I'll stand by what I said earlier, they could miss the playoffs looking at that schedule and the current state of the team. -

The offensive line has been horrendous in the last 3 games. If the Lions don't get this sorted out they can miss the playoffs entirely with that schedule coming up -
Stew has to be the best league in the league the last season plus at blocking dunks at the rim. For a guy who's not that tall and not that athletic it sure is amazing that he can do that as often as he does, his timing is impeccable.

Well, a surprise in the sense that he signed a 3 year extension just last offseason. Hopefully he lets management know early in the offseason so they can plan accordingly if he does indeed decide to call it quits. I think drafting a tackle high should be a priority regardless of Decker's intentions like when they took Ratledge before knowing, to our knowledge, that Ragnow was retiring. -

It has to be a huge priority this offseason. I wouldn't be shocked if Decker had a surprise retirement announcement like Ragnow last offseason, injuries are really starting to pile up with him and he's starting to decline in quality. It's very tough to find quality tackles in free agency so it has to be addressed at the draft. -
The lack of shooting is a big concern, it'll be hard to compete for a Championship if that's your Core 3. Holland has the best chance to be a Robin to Cade's Batman but he has a ways to go yet. Regardless, this team gets after it and is a pain to play against. I just don't know if I see a ton of offensive upside with this group, it's a struggle in a lot of 4th quarters going back to last year to score.

He can play, he'd be a backup center on most teams.

Yep that should be it. It'll have trouble scoring but establish a defensive identity and have Ivey leading the bench but that's highly unlikely to happen. -

Two idiotic shots on the last possession. They really missed Beasley and Schroder in this one, Robinson looks decrepit and I never liked the Levert signing. Ivey needs to take a step forward this season because Cade has virtually no scoring help. Well maybe Holland but it's too early to tell what he is -
Week Seven: Tampa Bay Buccaneers (5-1) @ Detroit Lions (4-2)
NYLion replied to MichiganCardinal's topic in Detroit Lions
I was way wrong about the defense. I need to put more faith in the Dan Campbell culture to get the most out of anybody, they did the same last year against Minnesota with an even more depleted group. The offense still has a lot of work to do which is crazy to say but Jamo and Monty outside of the Baltimore game haven't been utliized nearly enough, I also feel like Teslaa should be getting more looks. Kind of scary for the rest of the league that the offense hasn't clicked yet, the defense is depleted, and the Lions are still 5-2. The schedule is extremely tough but if anybody can navigate it, it's Dan Campbell's Lions. -
That's the Weaver era for ya. Langdon has no attachment to these guys
