  1. Steve Carlton's personal catcher...and a pretty decent hitter for catcher
  2. Throwing runners out there goes against the internal nature of the game...there is no defined end time to a game...in theory it could go on infinitely...the foul lines are just that..lines. Not line segments but lines...they extend infinitely...even beyond the stadium. George Carlin did a bit on this decades ago just randomly throwing a runner out there because the game is tied? What's next...trap doors in the outfield that swallow the CF at random intervals?
  3. Damn rich people and their yachts....
  4. Prior to the 1978 season the Tigers traded Ben Oglivie to the Brewers for pitcher Jim Slaton. Slaton won 17 for the Tigers and then signed for the 1979 season and beyond with Milwaukee I think he's a 1C when he has wings that are 1st line quality playing with him. The only way I trade him is if I'm getting a crack at a top 2 or 3 pick this year and more.
  5. Per Beck on twitter...Mize had back surgery as well as TJ. Not counting on anything from him
  6. Re Weaver...the moves he made early on can now be judged a little more clearly. He drafted Killian instead of Haliburton, spent capital to draft Stewart and Bey. Killian has picked it up a bit, but still isn't at the level he needs to be, Stewart looks to be best suited a s aback up at PF and C and Bey was dealt for a project big. For a guy with a rep as a draft genius...that's a pretty poor track record
  7. IIRC...one of the things that drove the WWE towards streaming their content via Peacock instead of the OOT network they built was the cost associated with maintaining the network. Could baseball find a streaming partner that has the capabilities of offering a tiered level of service...National coverage with the ability to buy a season pass for your team? Or would they have to front the $$$ necessary to build it themselves?
  8. Audacy Inc...parent company of 97.1 the Ticket...has been battling bankruptcy speculation for several months. Thanks, Avila....
  9. Cossa stops 26 shots an route to his 2nd shut out at Toledo
  10. I'm 62...been watching the Piston since Lanier was in his prime. The game is different...low post offense isn't as much of a thing any more. It's definitley more perimeter and jump shot oriented. Defense is maybe a bit less physical...but there aren't a of of uncontested shots today...guys play defense the length of the floor. Teams that are good at spacing have more room to operate towards the basket...that can be fun. Would love to have seen a guy like Dominique Wilkins flying down the lane in today's game...or Bob McAdoo or Lanier working on the perimeter facing the basket
  11. Bring Andre Drummond home
  12. Of all the pro sports...NBA trades are the craziest trades.
  13. Keion White from GA Tech looks like a fast rising DL prospect...if wedon't go edge at 6...White could be in play at 18. He's a big, versatile edge who could slide inside as needed.
  14. Columbus checks in at #3 on Wheeler's list
  15. As a kid growing up in pre HDTV times I used to love monkeying around with my parents tower antenna to see what kind of TV channels we could pick up. We lived in NW Ohio in a pretty flat open area. Used to be able to pick up the Pirates, Indians and Expo games pretty regularly. Then I got old enough to buy alcohol and date....I lost interest in night time baseball. Did manage to watch the news from a TV station out of Nebraska... That was cool.
  16. Kasper, Edvinsson, Wallinder...they've all taken steps fwd this year.
  17. Most stand alone streaming services top out around $10. I could do $10...didnt see the value in $20
  18. When they got Fred Lynn it was right at the playoff roster deadline...There was some weird story about him not getting here in time..IIRC, you could technically "report" to your team if the plane you were on contacted the control tower at the airport. He didn't make that and the Tigers could have lied about it, but did not. So, had they made the playoffs that year, Fred Lynn would not have been eligible because Bill Lajoie was an honest Joe
  19. I'm a BGSU alum...Karl Brooks was one of the few bright spots on our team. He lined up inside and out and absolutely terrorized QB's. Would love to see him in Detroit. So far as 2024 goes...we had a WR from the Detroit area named Tyrone Broden xfer out to Arkansas. 6-7 with sub 4.5 speed and a monster catch radius. Our head coach is a moron (Scot Loeffler) or we might have targeted him enough to get him to stay. Broden will get some NFL looks next year
  20. Al Avila was like a bad salesman...closed a few deals, but burned way too many leads to be successful
  21. ESPN's McDaniel has his top 100 out. Keith is at 75, Wilmer Flores is at 90. No Jobe (Mayer is #7) and no Jung (his brother is #38). Ranking Flores above Jobe is.....odd in my view.
  22. Not sure how I feel about trading Bey..be nice to get that 1st back...but Reddish? Then again..how does Bey fit into the future? If the plan is to keep Bojan, he's going to have to com of the bench. He may not be OK with that
  23. I think...maybe...Yount was hurt a bit by the fact that he wasn't a huge HR guy. Had a lot of TB because you could count on him for @40 doubles a year and @10 triples, but his HR totals were lower. People are marks for the long ball
  24. Feature I found on Yount and the AS game... https://shepherdexpress.com/sports/brew-crew-confidential/robin-yount-only-made-three-all-star-teams-what-gives/
  25. Yount was the MVP in 1989 and didn't make the All Star Game...perhaps he didn't want to be a part of things and made that clear?
