  1. The issues with Candelario have been there since the beginning of the season. He's been swinging at bad pitches and making weak contact all season. The Tigers should have sent him down a long time ago. Extended time off around the all star break is not going to make the difference. It's astonishing how poorly run this team is.
  2. You mean the 2024 option? It's such a long shot I can't even begin to imagine it's a possibility. That would definitely cement Illitch as the worse owner in the city of Detroit, worse than even the Ford family.
  3. This is kind of what I was thinking too. If he wants to come back and the Tigers don't want him back, then there is an issue. But at this point, he is saving the Tigers $38,356 each day he doesn't show up for work. My guess it the Tigers are okay with that right now. This year has gone worse than expected on the field and I think the Tigers are probably more interested in saving the money. If he wants to come back in the offseason, I think you just take him back. The contract isn't a bargain but it isn't terrible either.
  4. I guess the frontcourt is less about position and more about who is playing together. I am not super excited about playing Bagley and Stewart together. Same with Noel or Duren with either of them. Olynyk at least gives you a floor spacing. Maybe Stewart will get there also but "hoping" he can develop a three point shot and then also chase around guys a lot quicker than him on defense doesn't seem like smart business acumen to me. Which is why Livers becomes such a valuable piece for this team. I am usually anti there being only one way to build a team so I guess I have to be open to this. Stewart is kind of a throw back to the power forward's of 25 years ago. Hopefully it works out.
  5. Are the Pistons saying Stewart is going to be a power forward this year? That's a mistake.
  6. I agree that roster construction in the front court is poor. While I prefer Duren to Grant long term, it would have been nice to have Grant with the current roster.
  7. I would say we are better off with Meadows at DH, assuming he bounces back to something closer to his career averages. I suppose a platoon with Cabrera would be the easy answer.
  8. I agree he is not walking away. But he should have no problem paying his child support without next year's salary as long as he has not been extremely reckless with his money.
  9. I just went to youtube to watch Ivey's limited highlights before he got injured. Nice to see him finish with the left hand. I don't remember him doing that much at Purdue. His game really fits the NBA, at least the regular season NBA. I expect he will garner a lot of hype this year. But I also think his ultimate value will be determined by how committed he is to being an elite defender and can he be an impact guy in the playoffs when defenses play you tougher. At Purdue and in Summer League, he expends a ton of energy on offense. That is fine for now. But come regular season, I really want to see him spend a lot of that energy on defense.
  10. He never had good handles at Michigan. I wouldn't expect much there. He is a better athlete than given credit for there and can help from the weak side more than people realize. I expect him to be the primary backup to Bagley and depending on how things go with Bagley, he may see his minutes increase during the season if we need more shooting.
  11. You wonder if he has adjusted to the point now where he is actually a plus in the lineup again. A low .700's OPS is not ideal from a DH but a .300 average is still a .300 average.
  12. I think the Tigers were trying to punt this game.
  13. Seems like this happens all the time in the basketball and baseball. People hype a free agent class two years in advance and it never gets close to the hype because of extensions.
  14. "all year" is over-stating it but I could see it happening more than half the year.
  15. If he's going to be a bench warmer anyway, I would be in full support of this.
  16. I have no idea if this is a good deal. I agree with your meh reaction though. The Pistons will be playing him at power forward the next three years and I am not all that excited about have two big guys on the court that can't shoot.
  17. The minutes for the wings should be interesting as well. Cade and Saddiq are locked in. But then you got to balance Burks, Hayes, Ivey, and Diallo after that. Are the Pistons committed to giving Hayes 25 minutes per game again? I hope not. If Cade plays 33 minutes per game, play Hayes 15 minutes per game as his backup and call it good. I really hope they start Ivey or Burks over Hayes.
  18. More than likely, Duren's minutes are going to hinge on the Piston's success. If we are winning, there is a good chance minutes will be tough to come by for him. If we are losing, there is no point to not play him. I think early in the season, minutes will be hard to come by for him because coaches typically default to the veterans.
  19. That’s kind of what I thought too. I was not that excited about going all in on a big name free agent though either so can’t really complain much here.
  20. Livers is a nice option to have in your back pocket. I do like his upside. But it feels like we need another stretch four option besides him. And Olynyk.
  21. I'm not opposed to this but any future first rounders are a ways from being impactful players. We need to make sure we are keeping guys like Cade and Saddiq happy long term. The sooner we make the playoffs, the better. I think using the money by overpaying some second tier free agents on short term deals is still the best way to go.
  22. It sounds like Portis took a discount to stay in Milwaukee last year. This is his chance for a payday. If Milwaukee wants to keep him, I think they'll have to pony up.
  23. I support overpaying role players on short term deals. It's either that or overpay somebody like Ayton or Bridges on a max deal. It seems like it has been forever since we have not had at least one really bad contract on the books and there is a good chance we have buyer's remorse in 6 months again if we max Ayton or Bridges.
  24. I think I would rather spend a little more money and bring in Bobby Portis than re-sign Bagley. Portis would give us a little extra insurance too if Ivey comes in and struggles with his outside shot or Cade doesn't improve his percentage as much as he should.
  25. I don't understand the obsession by some with re-signing Bagley. I think those people are factoring in his draft position. He may be skilled but he is not a good shooter and we just drafted Duren to go along with Stewart. I'd take him back at the right price or even overpay if he would take a one year deal. But I don't think he is a guy we HAVE to bring back.
