  1. If you are not at least a little concerned about Tork, you are not living in reality. That's not to say he is more likely to bust than succeed or you can't be optimistic overall. But there is no doubt the perspective on him has to have changed a little bit from last year...and not for the better.
  2. As far as non-rookies go, I am okay going into next season with Schoop as the everyday second baseman. He's under contract for one more season and probably bounces back to something closer to career norms. Seems like he has been around forever but he'll only be 31 next year. Kind of bridge to Wenceel Perez.
  3. I kind of thought during that streak a lot of bounces were going our way. Water finds it's level.
  4. Melendez is the guy I have thought about and want but the cost is going to be fairly high. He was a top 50 prospect going into the season and broke out last year after crushing the upper levels of the minors. I think that is more relevant than his career minor league numbers. Would you give up Torkelson for him? Because that might be what it takes.
  5. Forgot about Clemens. He is definitely in the conversation as well at third.
  6. I would think Lipcius would be an option as well. Make it an open competition between Kreidler, Lipcius, and possibly Candelario. Throw Wenceel in there too, although if he is ready I would rather have Schoop move to third and start Wenceel's career at second. If those guys fail, you got Keith coming behind them. I'd lean towards non tending Jeimer as well but that is tough pill to swallow given how bad we are and what he was supposed to be going end to the year. Not sure how he got this bad.
  7. I'd start Jung in left field. And then first base or DH would be the fallback plan. I would rather sacrifice a bad fielder in left field than at second baseman. I am sure the Tigers will start him at second or third though. Like they did with Torkleson, which was a waste of time.
  8. Plus who knows what the game will look like in 5-10 years.
  9. I know Kriedler is supposed to be a decent shortstop but how many 6'4 second baseman are there around baseball? I would imagine his best position will end up being third base. Although I certainly wouldn't rule out second base. I am hoping the Tigers hit on one of Keith, Lipcius, or Kriedler at third base...assuming Candelario can't get his stroke back.
  10. He is annoying. I don't know why...Blaha was the same way for the Pistons but he is not near as annoying as Shepard. Shep just always seems like he is trying too hard to suck up to the baseball boys club and Blaha never felt that way.
  11. The way he runs does make me nervous that he will not be able to handle second or third. Seems very un-athletic. But at this point, I'd be happy even with a DH as long as we get somebody that can hit.
  12. I'm good with it. Not sure where he will play but we could use somebody in our system who is more advanced with the bat.
  13. He's actually getting worse month by month. I think his patient approach wasn't working so he decided to be more aggressive but that is not how he got to this point in the first place. He's got to find that balance.
  14. I feel like I have not never carried a pitchfork, at least until maybe the last month, but at some point it's just a matter results and not individual moves or bad luck. He's been the main guy for nearly 7 years now it seems for every step forward, we take two or three steps back.
  15. This does matter a bit I guess, at least when the team is awful. I am not sure how much he helps the team at this point but there is still a little extra excitement when he comes to the plate.
  16. The Tigers are the poster child for how unpredictable pitching can be now. They have done almost everything right and taken all the precautions with all their young pitching and most of it appears to not have mattered. If Brieske feels good, I would not hesitate to push him to 150 innings. I don't know what their innings limit is for him but the chances pitching 120 innings versus 150 innings makes any kind of difference seems absurd to me at this point.
  17. The issues with Candelario have been there since the beginning of the season. He's been swinging at bad pitches and making weak contact all season. The Tigers should have sent him down a long time ago. Extended time off around the all star break is not going to make the difference. It's astonishing how poorly run this team is.
  18. You mean the 2024 option? It's such a long shot I can't even begin to imagine it's a possibility. That would definitely cement Illitch as the worse owner in the city of Detroit, worse than even the Ford family.
  19. This is kind of what I was thinking too. If he wants to come back and the Tigers don't want him back, then there is an issue. But at this point, he is saving the Tigers $38,356 each day he doesn't show up for work. My guess it the Tigers are okay with that right now. This year has gone worse than expected on the field and I think the Tigers are probably more interested in saving the money. If he wants to come back in the offseason, I think you just take him back. The contract isn't a bargain but it isn't terrible either.
  20. I guess the frontcourt is less about position and more about who is playing together. I am not super excited about playing Bagley and Stewart together. Same with Noel or Duren with either of them. Olynyk at least gives you a floor spacing. Maybe Stewart will get there also but "hoping" he can develop a three point shot and then also chase around guys a lot quicker than him on defense doesn't seem like smart business acumen to me. Which is why Livers becomes such a valuable piece for this team. I am usually anti there being only one way to build a team so I guess I have to be open to this. Stewart is kind of a throw back to the power forward's of 25 years ago. Hopefully it works out.
  21. Are the Pistons saying Stewart is going to be a power forward this year? That's a mistake.
  22. I agree that roster construction in the front court is poor. While I prefer Duren to Grant long term, it would have been nice to have Grant with the current roster.
  23. I would say we are better off with Meadows at DH, assuming he bounces back to something closer to his career averages. I suppose a platoon with Cabrera would be the easy answer.
  24. I agree he is not walking away. But he should have no problem paying his child support without next year's salary as long as he has not been extremely reckless with his money.
  25. I just went to youtube to watch Ivey's limited highlights before he got injured. Nice to see him finish with the left hand. I don't remember him doing that much at Purdue. His game really fits the NBA, at least the regular season NBA. I expect he will garner a lot of hype this year. But I also think his ultimate value will be determined by how committed he is to being an elite defender and can he be an impact guy in the playoffs when defenses play you tougher. At Purdue and in Summer League, he expends a ton of energy on offense. That is fine for now. But come regular season, I really want to see him spend a lot of that energy on defense.
