  1. Maybe we just need to build a ballpark that fits Carpenter's home run swing.
  2. Schoop has one year left on his deal. He's got enough of a track record I'd bring him back with the idea that a bounce back is a good possibility and Wenceel Perez is waiting in the wings. If the first month goes poorly next year or Clemens has a big spring training, then maybe that would be the time to cut bait. Candelario is the biggest disappointment this year in my opinion. Seemed like he might be the answer long term going into the season. We could probably get a throw away prospect for him and maybe you take that. I hope the Tigers spend some money but even with that, there are going to be some positions we have to bring back our own guys.
  3. Torkelson hit .238 at Toledo last year but it came with power and good obp. That seemed like the floor. Clearly, he is not the same hitter he was last year and there is something going on mentally or mechanically. I don’t think it’s just an issue of not being to handle the next level of pitching because we have seen enough abs at Toledo now to draw some conclusions.
  4. Nobody wants to give up cost controlled top prospects for the chance they become an all-star in the near future. But it does seem more often than not it goes the other way. Look at CJ Abrams. Would the Padres have been willing to trade him in that deal before the season started? Doubtful.
  5. This is what I am expecting as well. I think the only reason he backtracked a little bit recently was because he wants to make sure he gets his paycheck next year. I think he is ready to be done. And it would benefit the Tigers not to force him to come back just to collect his salary next year. Pay him his money and do what's best for Miggy and the team.
  6. I only watched the first quarter and don't know if Hutchinson played after that but I was disappointed he was almost exclusively in a three point stance. If you watched him at Michigan last year, he was in a two point stance the majority of the time and that is when he made most of his plays. Time will tell if this matters. But it is my belief that Hutchinson is a better as a quasi rush linebacker and the Lions used him as more of a traditional defensive end the first quarter.
  7. Parker Meadows looks like Aaron Judge with that height and batting stance.
  8. I thought letting Scherzer walk was the right move. Turned out to be a mistake. Verlander is an interesting situation because he got traded from the Tigers to Houstan at the perfect time. I think if he had stayed, things would not have gone as well for him the last 5 years, even with missing pretty much all of 2021-22. Pitching for a winning team is more motivating than pitching for a losing team. Now I am starting to wonder if he has a chance at 300 wins. He doesn't seem like a guy that is interested in retiring and is going to play as long as he can. Nolan Ryan pitched till 46 and had 71 wins after the age of 40. Verlander plays for the right team to have a chance of getting there.
  9. I hate to defend the Tigers but that does seem a reasonable defense in this case. Most scouts thought he had top of the rotation stuff, maybe as a number two more than a number one. Obviously, it looks like everybody missed on him. The problem for Avila is there seems to be a common theme of misses over and over and over again.
  10. If you are not at least a little concerned about Tork, you are not living in reality. That's not to say he is more likely to bust than succeed or you can't be optimistic overall. But there is no doubt the perspective on him has to have changed a little bit from last year...and not for the better.
  11. As far as non-rookies go, I am okay going into next season with Schoop as the everyday second baseman. He's under contract for one more season and probably bounces back to something closer to career norms. Seems like he has been around forever but he'll only be 31 next year. Kind of bridge to Wenceel Perez.
  12. I kind of thought during that streak a lot of bounces were going our way. Water finds it's level.
  13. Melendez is the guy I have thought about and want but the cost is going to be fairly high. He was a top 50 prospect going into the season and broke out last year after crushing the upper levels of the minors. I think that is more relevant than his career minor league numbers. Would you give up Torkelson for him? Because that might be what it takes.
  14. Forgot about Clemens. He is definitely in the conversation as well at third.
  15. I would think Lipcius would be an option as well. Make it an open competition between Kreidler, Lipcius, and possibly Candelario. Throw Wenceel in there too, although if he is ready I would rather have Schoop move to third and start Wenceel's career at second. If those guys fail, you got Keith coming behind them. I'd lean towards non tending Jeimer as well but that is tough pill to swallow given how bad we are and what he was supposed to be going end to the year. Not sure how he got this bad.
  16. I'd start Jung in left field. And then first base or DH would be the fallback plan. I would rather sacrifice a bad fielder in left field than at second baseman. I am sure the Tigers will start him at second or third though. Like they did with Torkleson, which was a waste of time.
  17. Plus who knows what the game will look like in 5-10 years.
  18. I know Kriedler is supposed to be a decent shortstop but how many 6'4 second baseman are there around baseball? I would imagine his best position will end up being third base. Although I certainly wouldn't rule out second base. I am hoping the Tigers hit on one of Keith, Lipcius, or Kriedler at third base...assuming Candelario can't get his stroke back.
  19. He is annoying. I don't know why...Blaha was the same way for the Pistons but he is not near as annoying as Shepard. Shep just always seems like he is trying too hard to suck up to the baseball boys club and Blaha never felt that way.
  20. The way he runs does make me nervous that he will not be able to handle second or third. Seems very un-athletic. But at this point, I'd be happy even with a DH as long as we get somebody that can hit.
  21. I'm good with it. Not sure where he will play but we could use somebody in our system who is more advanced with the bat.
  22. He's actually getting worse month by month. I think his patient approach wasn't working so he decided to be more aggressive but that is not how he got to this point in the first place. He's got to find that balance.
  23. I feel like I have not never carried a pitchfork, at least until maybe the last month, but at some point it's just a matter results and not individual moves or bad luck. He's been the main guy for nearly 7 years now it seems for every step forward, we take two or three steps back.
  24. This does matter a bit I guess, at least when the team is awful. I am not sure how much he helps the team at this point but there is still a little extra excitement when he comes to the plate.
  25. The Tigers are the poster child for how unpredictable pitching can be now. They have done almost everything right and taken all the precautions with all their young pitching and most of it appears to not have mattered. If Brieske feels good, I would not hesitate to push him to 150 innings. I don't know what their innings limit is for him but the chances pitching 120 innings versus 150 innings makes any kind of difference seems absurd to me at this point.
