  1. That will remain a hypothetical question in all likelihood, because they are going to be right in the race for the worst record in the league. They will be 15-20 games out by the All Star break.
  2. Miggy struggles to even get the ball out of the infield. I can see him finishing up the season on the IL...maybe bring him back for the last home series and let him play in those meaningless games. He has been a below average to one of the worst in the league when position value comes into play since 2017. A negative 2.6 WAR since then. Prediction: .134 Avg, 0 home runs, 23 hits.
  3. I am not much of a Hinch fan, but what exactly should he have done differently? He has a roster and he has to put those players out there. Telling each guy to "go get 'em" before they step in the batter's box isn't going to help them become effective players. Ultimately it is on the player to either succeed or fail. No manager in the world is going to suddenly make a roster of cast offs and should be AAA players into winners.
  4. If anyone hasn't listened to Earl Weaver's Manager Corner clip from the past, you need to listen to it because it will bring you to tears.
  5. Also for perspective, Shawn Abner, the #1 pick in the 1984 draft who had quite a bit of success in the minors, had roughly 1800 PA before he made the majors at the age of 21. He ended up with a .227 BA, .591 OPS, and 11 home runs. He was a part time player in the majors until the age of 26. You can find examples of all sorts of guys who were in similar situations as Greene and Torkelson who finished with all levels of types of careers from Trout to Abner and everywhere in between (Gregg Jefferies was similar). You can't draw any conclusions from it because they are all different people who develop differently. Torkelson probably could have used last season in AAA, and I think he along with Greene might benefit from spending some time in Toledo this season to work on some things without the pressure of being in the majors.
  6. This is the awful thing about being a Tigers fan, looking to trade anyone that is remotely good in return for a bunch of crap prospects that probably will never make it to the majors. Avila was more about getting quantity than quality in trades. You can only have so many good field, no hit position players in your organization.
  7. Put the sole power threats at #8 and 9 in the lineup.
  8. It's almost like he just randomly draws a name out of a hat when he makes out the lineup, not that it really matters with this group of players.
  9. I don't think they really believe Jake Rogers is anything other than a .220 hitter and they are afraid if he plays too much he will tire out and show his true colors.
  10. Well, the Tigers do have 16 homers and only 10 behind the league average after 21 games. The team has a .211 BA, the worst in the league. A 603 OPS, the worst in the league. Two guys on the team that have more than 2 home runs. I would say this offense is just as bad as last season. First base and corner outfield positions are your power spots and they have 3 home runs combined. These guys suck.
  11. Rob Deer 1991, 25 hrs, .386 slg That was only 25 hrs, but yikes. Chris Davis, Khris Davis, Joey Gallo, Dave Kingman, Gorman Thomas were other guys that hit a lot of home runs but had very low .slg.
  12. Late to this topic, but I will claim Jonathan Schoop. I want to support a guy who gets released/DFA before May is over.
  13. Remember how everybody blamed the reason why the hitters sucked on Scott Coolbaugh? I think the real reason the hitters suck is because they just suck.
  14. They might consider playing him in the outfield. Probably be in contention as the best hitter on the roster.
  15. The traditional Tigers road uniforms with Detroit in block letters are one of my favorites. I think the Spanish Tigres uniforms are pretty cool.
  16. Putrid. Softball uniforms at best.
  17. Hopefully whoever the DH is, he will be able to hit better than the guys Hinch has been penciling in at that position.
  18. Maybe I am pessimistic, but I really don't see Torkelson ever being anything more than a bad version of the San Diego era Eric Hosmer. I know they are still kids, but lots of guys that never found success in the majors were kids once too. It sucks too, because if these guys are busts, the Tigers will have to basically start from scratch again in a few years.
  19. Lots of reasons why baseball is dying out among kids in general. It's not a very exciting game to play compared to basketball or football. If you live in a city, baseball is tough to play just because of how much area it takes up while there are basketball hoops all over the place. It doesn't require the athleticism that other sports require, so it gets ignored. You don't get paid right away like basketball or football. There are plenty of other reasons, but baseball is now simply a sport that people in the Caribbean/Latin America and some parts of California/Florida and a few other states play. I can't remember the last time I saw kids playing baseball at a park or having a pick-up game. On a side note, I also think the pathetic results from the Tigers over the last 7 or 8 years also affects kids in the area wanting to play the game. When a team is as bad as the Tigers, many parents of young kids just don't follow baseball and in turn don't expose their kids to the game. I grew up in the 80s/90s, played 2 years in college, but just stopped following baseball because the Tigers were just so bad. It's really hard to care about an organization that doesn't value winning. I played catch with my son and threw batting practice when he was growing up, but he never was excited about the game and we never watched games together because the Tigers were so bad all those years. I have a feeling the Tigers are going to be bad for a long, long time.
  20. Sometimes it's hit em where they ain't, but if guys like Torkelson and Greene aren't driving the ball with authority, they will be out of the league in about 2 or 3 seasons.
  21. Why does it matter what the racial makeup of players is?
  22. Give him a nice bang on the top of the garbage can to salute him.
  23. That was the whole point of my post.
  24. Good for Miggy, but it is kind of sad to see how one of the greatest players in our generation has fallen
