  1. It's not going to matter if the Tigers can't score off of Boyd. Once the Guardians get into the bullpen, double yikes.
  2. I would hold out for Max Clark, Reese Olson, and Casey Mize for Aaron Judge, Juan Soto, and Gerrit Cole.
  3. I also assume most organizations have some protocol in place where a trade needs to get approvals from the owner/ president, etc. So stupid stuff like what people propose in trade threads don't happen.
  4. Gooden got derailed because of substance abuse. Porcello never was even remotely close to having the pitching skill that Gooden displayed. He stayed in the league because even high and drunk he was still better than nearly every one on the planet.
  5. I was going through a box of old baseball cards and found a Dwight Gooden rookie card. His 1985 season was one of the greatest pitching seasons in history. He's one of those guys who was a what might have been...
  6. Stoopid Tagers.
  7. Scratching out runs in innings 1-9 is going to be tough. They have been winning for sure, but the lineup really doesnt inspire a lot of confidence.
  8. The pitching strategy only works if your bullpen pitchers are effective. The tigers have been quite fortunate that their guys have pitched so well. If the bullpen guys suck, the strategy won't work.
  9. He also sounds like he wasn't smart about it and certainly didn't limit his risk. If you play carefully, conservative, and know the math, you have a great chance to win. I've played against all sorts of players and you alter your style accordingly. People get in trouble because their ego gets in the way and they call off their money with mediocre hands. No shame in folding a middle hand because the goal is to walk away with more money than you had.
  10. I've been playing poker since I have been about 20 and let's just say if you are careful, limit your risks, and smart about it, you can literally pay off your house from the winnings.
  11. Spring training is more for the guys they want to be on the team to get in shape. They know before ST starts who pretty much all but one or two guys are that will make the opening day roster. They might feel the need to start the season with him since they owe him so much money, but it's really a sunk cost so shouldn't matter
  12. Comet Tsuchinsan will be visible in a few weeks. These always are signs of something. I think it is a sign the Tigers are going to be the most unexpected WS champs ever There was a comet in the sky when Julius Caesar was assassinated. Halley's comet was in the sky when Flavius Aetius defeated Attila the Hun in a great battle. Halley's comet was in the sky when William the Conqueror invaded England and became the eventual king. Hale Bopp was in the sky when the Heaven's Gate cult committed suicide. And now, this comet will be in the sky when the Tigers claim the WS victory. Surely, it's an obvious sign.
  13. They were 24th in payroll at the start of the season, 1 million ahead of Cleveland and Baltimore. Only Tampa, Pittsburgh, and Oakland have substantially lower payrolls than the Tigers. I'm not sure where you get the Ilitch has been willing to spend. I get it that signing a bunch of free agents isn't necessarily the best way to build a team, but we'll see how he handles Skubal in the next few years.
  14. How else can they drag the WS out until November unless they have a bunch of off days?
  15. I'm not saying they can't be. But posters expect every single player to get better next year and that just doesn't happen. Sweeney, Jung, Meadows, Dingler are really complete unknowns whether they can improve or be productive mlb players. Torkelson looks lost at the plate. Greene has his moments but he is hurt a lot. Rogers is what he is. Carpenter and Vierling are solid. they might all turn out to be great, but it's never as simple as people make it out to be. Look at the 84 Tigers. Everyone thought that team would dominate for years and they were slightly above average in 85 and 86 before getting throttled by the twins in the playoffs in 87 and that was the end of them. I guess I feel like these guys have a lot to prove next season
  16. Even if they were the worst GM and manager in mlb, they both have additional years on their contract and I can't imagine Ilitch firing them and then having to pay someone else to do the job I have doubts that this hot streak is sustainable beyond this year, and I don't believe ilitch will put any more money than the bare minimum to bring in a few vets in the future, but that's a lament for another day.
  17. I stream everything. I don't have cable or direct TV. I have Pluto TV, Roku, a fee other free apps, and stream online any sporting event I want to watch. It's not very tough at all. There really isn't anything worth paying for on television.
  18. It's not like the Guardians have a rotation full of Cy Young candidates. Bibee is good but after that it's a bit weak. The problem is once they get to their bullpen, the Tigers are in trouble. And they need to not pitch to Ramirez.
  19. They won't pitch him game 1. Olson has to start sometime. If the Tigers can win that game and then Skubal's start, they can hold him back for game 5 if needed and if not he can start the alcs game 1. My question is what is the point of having Mize on the roster? I get if you don't carry him, that might cause bad blood next season, but he sucks anyway and is basically a #4 starter. Other than blowout, does he get in a game? I don't know if there were any other options but it seems a waste.
  20. I hate it. And he should take flak for it.
  21. That's the run. But beware, Jason Foley might be coming into the game eventually.
  22. The "disgraced" wing of the HOF. That would be awesome. Maybe have a "douchebag" wing also? I nominate Jack Morris to be in that wing.
  23. I have a feeling that poor defensive play by Keith is going to come back to haunt the Tigers.
  24. It's silly David Ortiz is in the HOF, failing multiple PED tests while guys like Bonds, in the conversation for greatest player ever, Roger Clemens, in the conversation for greatest pitcher ever, and Alex Rodriguez, probably the greatest SS or 3B ever, are not in the HOF.
  25. This home plate umpire is really good.
