Liberal MSM newspapers really are in a bind because the young are always the future of liberalism, but Newspapers, even the online versions, don't really resonate to any of the cohorts behind the boomers. So the business management side - in this case even old money ownership like Sulzberger, is trying to triangulate to a wider political spectrum. But I don't see how it can help them. 1st because any conservative readers they pick up will be as old or older than the readership that is already too old, and 2nd because sympathy to today's conservative movement is simply incompatible to any organization that thinks its mandate is honest journalism (read as: reporting on the world truthfully).

Not to mention that there seem to be a lot more complaints about their product quality. For years I bought nothing but Nike because they were one of the only shoes that had sufficient arch for me. But some number of years ago there was a shift, and Nike, among others, started just building flat arch shoes and whatever arch you got came from the removable insole. At that point they had no special appeal and it's been a long time since a bought a pair.
