  1. and the joke was that UM's DEI program hardly moved the needle for Black enrolment. The factors that matter there are largely outside the University and no amount of training, programming, or navel gazing taking place by people sitting in A^2 (good or bad) has any impact on that at all. I often though the best thing the U could have done to improve minority enrolment was take all that DEI money and use it to open it's own charter schools in Det, Pontiac, Flint.
  2. plus the hitters just get used to bad pitching and then have to re-adjust to bearing down when suddenly there are a lot fewer mistakes to hit. With Skubal they didn't have to do that much. But they better figure out by tomorrow night because I'm paying to watch that one!
  3. odd Seem to go against what has been the Tiger policy of not sending guys to rehab assignment until they were ready to play.
  4. LOL - TBH, I couldn't tell you where I've ever even seen a Tesla ad. They haven't much need to advertise, at least until recently.
  5. are you kidding me? Stepping off the mound again?
  6. no, and he's said that exact thing many times. But I don't think Skubal ever had a shot at the complete game even if he hadn't given up the hit - he knew there was a shot so he said he started pushing harder to get there - but you can't do that, which is why he was gased at the end of his outing. If you think you have a shot at a no-hitter if anything you want to try to stay even and let it come to you - especially in this era were just getting to 9 is going to be a huge extra effort.
  7. Don't feel bad, my direct TV is all over the place, it may buffer anywhere between 10sec and a full minute - and that's with a 1 gig incoming line.
  8. I've read that "todos, todos, todos" was favorite phrase of Francis'. The new guy could do worse.
  9. well, they have to learn how not to close out games somewhere.
  10. Winning streak by the top 4 CenDiv teams now at 21. Even if you assume all 4 are 60% winning clubs, the binomial eqn gives the odds of the current combined streak as 1 in 45,000
  11. LOL - and that team stole the most bases than any Tigers team going back to 2001.
  12. LOL - true - you can't get to his stat page from the Tigers home page because he hasn't played with them yet - but via the Mud Hen's page: https://www.milb.com/player/matt-vierling-663837
  13. three games in at DH for the Hens.
  14. Lopsided loses can drive run differential to where the Pythagorean loses meaning. Cleveland has had some bullpen guys get really lit up - given up 10+ runs 4 times.
  15. Could be. He hasn't played in the field yet, maybe he needs another clearance for that step. If it does he's probably still another week away though....
  16. So if Veirling is rehabbing with the Hens and the Hens are in the middle of a ball game what was he doing in the Tiger dugout?
  17. definitely - sort of expected a let down. But Skubal was sharp and even though they only scored 2 they hit the ball a lot better than the score - nothing was going to leave the yard tonight though. Somebody must have slipped in a case of soft baseballs.
  18. I think the same story is in the A^2 News.
  19. participation in arcane ritual also is an easy way to engender self-satisfaction in the parishioners. It feels like atonement, even though it's only empty gesture. The declension of religious hierarchies into hollow formalisms is a timeless phenomenon - no different today than in 30 AD Judea.
  20. and they usually post a chunk of that on gameday.
  21. he's reminds me a little of where Mize was in when he started out. He gets ahead of hitters but the hitters know he going to throw out of the zone when he's ahead so they spit on his breaking ball - in Mizes case it was the split. Then he gets frustrated and throws a mistake. Guys with great breaking balls or splitters have to prove they can get guys out in the zone when they get to the majors. Jobe has to throw more strikes ahead in the count.
  22. The boys in the booth with this tidbit today: 38 games into the season, a Tiger starting pitcher has failed to go 4 innings exactly once - Jobe yesterday.
  23. JHM had a good day today. I thought he had slumped his way into a ticket back to Toledo before today's DH. Jace may be playing batter 3b than Vierling can, but he's still not hitting.
  24. Should lot of peace and harmony oozing from the Boston dugout by the time they get to Det next week. DH Devers - already smarting from losing his 3B position to Bregman, announced the team has asked him to pick up a glove and go to 1st after the injury to Tristan Casas. Dever's reply? Stuff it.
  25. so which was #27 today? Montero or Hicklen?
