yup - I hope Harbaugh is recruiting a good QB hard this year because one way or the other one of McNamara or McCarthy is gone next season and you don't want to be left with no backup. That is apparently how it's going to be from now on. Win the job or move on, win and then lose the job, move on.

I think you also have to assume that that board (and/or the rest of the family) would probably have taken a dim view of him not being 100% focused on being COB at FoMoCO. WCFJr had said more than once, both before and after WCFSr passed, that the company was always his primary interest. Whether he says that out of conviction or convenience, who knows? And if you really want to try and speculate about what kind of undercurrents there might be in the family - consider that WCF Sr was frozen out of an active role in managing Ford. Maybe Mom sees her own son as a bit of turncoat to his father (and her) in taking the role her husband was denied (which of course also denied her the peak social status that Henry II's wives had). That's the kind of dynamic where Mom might be more the holder of grudges than Sr himself, who was happy enough to have Jr working with him some on the Lions in his later years.

WCFJr is probably the only one in the family that serious experience in any kind of organizational setting and even in his case that record is checkered. He's been behind some good hires and some not so good ones at FoMoCo. But with the Lions he saw his initial support of Millen blow up in his face and that was apparently enough for him to decide to bail when given the chance. Or who knows, maybe Mom pushed him out!

I don't think so. What you are seeing is what you are getting. They are playing JJ to give him experience but there is no secret plan to give him the job unless/until McNamara starts to fail in more ways than he is failing now - which could of course happen. But I think the fans and media are projecting the play some of some of our really bad previous QB (like Patterson) onto McNamara. There is a difference. Despite the deep misses, McNamara makes a lot of good throws around the rest of the field and that coupled with a low turn-over number is worth more IMO than the talking heads give it credit. The truth is as long as the O moves the ball, you only have to throw the deep ball to keep the D honest - you don't need to complete them as long as you can continue to get 1st downs, and the M offense has been able to do that. We all assume it's going to get more difficult, but it has to play out. So we are likely to see how much Harbaugh really channels Bo. Bo would lose before he let game conditions dictate his choice of players and given the way Harbaugh stuck with a Patterson who was far less effective than NcNamara makes me think Harbaugh takes the same approach. Not saying I'm a fan in any of this, but that's my guess about it. And of course the worst possible outcome is that the outside pressure gets to either Harbaugh or McNamara and they start trying to force throws that result in INTs.

I don't have a dog in this series at all. If you have read my postings for any period of time you would know that I am a member of a group on this forum (and it's predecessor!) that for some years have been pretty consistent proponents of the statistical truth that in baseball the quality of the team has very little effect on the outcome of a short series. Or in short form: Baseball playoffs are a crapshoot.

whether a team or good or not there are too many random inputs into the outcome of a baseball game to look any gift horses from the opposition in the mouth. If you look at the winning percentage differences between baseball playoff teams, the difference in team quality is only worth a few percent in the probability of the outcome in a short series, the rest is all noise input.

Braves have ping ponged from going against Roberts who couldn't leave well enough alone with his pitchers, to Baker who sat on his butt till his starter probably let the game get out of reach.
