  1. The odds Kelly becomes unplayable within two seasons? 30-50%?
  2. I also have a parent who is in the early-mid stages. Granted, dementia comes in different forms, but Biden doesn't have dementia. He is old though.
  3. Why so much JK Simmons this year?
  4. Never ever ever ever draft for need.
  5. Back to the Maeda point, it does not do this. If they decline in that time to become unplayable, you have not addressed the catcher situation and are stuck with somebody on the roster who shouldn't be.
  6. So much of Rogers' value is wrapped up in his framing. It takes a huge hit if there is any semblance of robo-zone next year.
  7. There's a difference between saying he has only marginally outpaced his projections and saying he should be locked up long term, at 30, as a catcher with an injury history.
  8. One man's scared is another man's smart.
  9. Multi year deals are a performance risk. You are stuck with the player if they fall off a map. If Maeda was on a one year deal, they would cut him the moment Mize returned from his hammy. Kelly, while I defended him earlier in the thread, is a 30 year old catcher with an injury history. A multi year deal means if he falls off a cliff in year 1, you have a dead roster spot for two more years.
  10. For anybody advocating multiple years for Carson Kelly, I propose the following hypothetical: would the Tigers have moved on from Maeda yet if he was signed to a one-year deal?
  11. You didn't see what they gave up to get Burnes (granted, it's one year of control, not 2.3, but still)
  12. I dispute that his resume suggests this is a mirage. He did have hand/wrist issues the past couple years that hampered his hitting, but he was an above average MLB hitter 2019-2021. He's only moderately exceeding his PECOTA/ZIPS/etc. projections.
  13. That trade reeked of a deal where Wingenter had an upward mobility clause, and it was confirmed by somebody on the Red Sox beat. So, similar to Trayce Thompson a couple of years ago or Jonathan Davis last year, they either had to call up Wingenter or offer him to every other team and make a deal. Not much leverage in that situation. Those clauses aren't public, so it's tough to know when they are coming.
  14. I will say one thing I've learned about dementia, and obviously all cases are different, is the person who is sick often does not know they are sick. Also, given how difficult it is to get a neurology appointment right now (not for POTUS), a lot of people are going through this right now. I really hope people stop with the flippant jokes about that disease in an attempt to score political points.
  15. He did 12 days ago in AAA.
  16. I'm still gobsmacked a bad debate performance is a dagger in a campaign, but the "gestured at everything Trump" isn't.
  17. Grichuk is at the stage of his career where he signs an incentive laden minor league deal in February.
  18. The stutter isn't helping matters.
  19. Agreed. Throw in that a loooooooot of people are dealing with family members, not necessarily elderly, with degenerative brain diseases right now, and they shouldn't be taking this kind of thing lightly.
  20. A women who was a 12 year old member of Craig Monroe's spring training host family accused him of unspeakable acts at that age and eventually grooming and pimping her out for years to follow.
  21. Yesterday's ruling has me cranky and fearful.
  22. Fox 2 doesn't have any credentials to lose. Let's see if this trend keeps up.
  23. Well, still no mention of this from the Tigers beat is a problem, imo... a big problem. Out of fear of access, stuff like this is unlikely going to be uncovered and people are going to be victimized when stuff like this could otherwise come to light sooner. Sports teams took the wrong lesson from Penn State et. al.
  24. They probably did have to be very careful here to leave it so some rogue Ken Paxton type can't prosecute Biden for allowing an abortion or something.
