  1. That source has big time credibility issues. Some of those numbers are not correct. I suspect he is using the faulty Tankathon stuff. Doyle has some plagiarism in his track record. I recommend unfollowing.
  2. Exactly, free agency is not like going to the grocery store to get a gallon of orange juice. The orange juice has some agency.
  3. It's not an assumption.
  4. The 40-man is at 38, so they likely plan on at least two more moves! Probably a Rule 5 flier for the bullpen and another starting pitcher. Beyond that, probably a reliever or two, and then some bargain hunting in February when some free agents are playing musical chairs, with an eye for the waiver wire.
  5. There are very few people who haven't been affected in some way by mental illness; either themselves or somebody close to them. I'm sorry you have backward views on it, but at least acknowledge how hurtful it is to espouse those views and how ignorant it makes you appear. I acknowledge going the Billy Madison screed route may have been over-the-top, but it is apropos given the severity and how out of bounds those two posts were. It deserved top rope treatment.
  6. Lee and I both noticed a tweet from a fangraphs writer calling Olson the #2 starter today. I actually agree with it. And Harris has talked him up at some point this offseason.
  7. I think the rotation right now is penciled in as Skubal, Maeda, Olson, Mize, one more addition. Manning has options. SGL et al can wait their turn. All of them will probably be needed. Wentz is out of options, by the way. Fangraphs says Faedo is too, but I am 99.9% sure he's 4th option eligible. I know Wentz isn't; I've gotten second hand confirmation from the org.

  9. Frontloading is interesting. Probably a bit more payroll space this year, since a lot of guys will be getting arb raises next year and more additions next year. Also the new AAV rules for traded players may increase his trade value some next year if a buying team is against the tax.
  10. I will never understand the criticism minor league free agent signings get around here.
  11. Garrett Hill back on a minor league deal... Ryan Vilade also signed a minor league deal.
  12. The exit in question the other day was Exit 267 on I-75 in Marietta, GA. One where I got burned by the gas lie last year was the first exit on 77 in West Virginia north of the VA border.
  13. I was listening to Eno's podcast yesterday and he mentioned Severino is the guy in the free agent pool whose underlying stuff pops as a sleeper. He is pretty good at sifting through pitchers.
  14. Those signs on the highway that tell you there is a gas station at an exit and then you exit the freeway to find it is two miles away.
  15. Turnbull wasn't on pace to hit 5 years until August. The timeline doesn't jibe. Anything roster rules/service time related from McCosky deserves skepticism. He is wrong more often than not.
  16. He's already been hired by the Tigers at that point. His whole time at the Giants he was GM, but Zaidi led baseball ops.
  17. Hindsight 20/20, they were right to not write a blank check to Correa.
  18. Vertigo and anxiety are not the same thing.
  19. Ever try to run in steel toe boots? I tried mowing in them earlier this year and gave it up because it weighed me down so much.
  20. So... Greene's injury history. He fouled a ball off his foot. He had a stress fracture in his shin (long term wear and tear injury). He had a torn UCL on a dive in the outfield. The first one was a freak play. The second play isn't really a trying too hard injury. A shoulder separation or something like that on the dive could be an issue, but it's rare for a UCL injury to be a blunt force deal. Usually when the elbow UCL snaps, it's been coming for a while. This isn't Derek Hill, whose Hamstring was never healthy, who always separated his shoulder running into walls.
  21. Adames was traded by Dombrowski. That was less pulling the plug, more going and getting one of the best pitchers in baseball and the price it took.
  22. It's clear makeup and work ethic weigh heavily on the current regime's scouting report. When so much player development is based on the individual's buy-in, that makes some sense.
  23. Not that it matters for the Tigers, but I do have some of the back-of-the-roster minutia figured out for luxury tax calculations (that places like Cots and Fangraphs brute force guess), and have that incorporated in a spreadsheet that will start working once the season starts.
