  1. He's already been hired by the Tigers at that point. His whole time at the Giants he was GM, but Zaidi led baseball ops.
  2. Hindsight 20/20, they were right to not write a blank check to Correa.
  3. Vertigo and anxiety are not the same thing.
  4. Ever try to run in steel toe boots? I tried mowing in them earlier this year and gave it up because it weighed me down so much.
  5. So... Greene's injury history. He fouled a ball off his foot. He had a stress fracture in his shin (long term wear and tear injury). He had a torn UCL on a dive in the outfield. The first one was a freak play. The second play isn't really a trying too hard injury. A shoulder separation or something like that on the dive could be an issue, but it's rare for a UCL injury to be a blunt force deal. Usually when the elbow UCL snaps, it's been coming for a while. This isn't Derek Hill, whose Hamstring was never healthy, who always separated his shoulder running into walls.
  6. Adames was traded by Dombrowski. That was less pulling the plug, more going and getting one of the best pitchers in baseball and the price it took.
  7. It's clear makeup and work ethic weigh heavily on the current regime's scouting report. When so much player development is based on the individual's buy-in, that makes some sense.
  8. Not that it matters for the Tigers, but I do have some of the back-of-the-roster minutia figured out for luxury tax calculations (that places like Cots and Fangraphs brute force guess), and have that incorporated in a spreadsheet that will start working once the season starts.
  9. Link?
  10. I would be shocked to see Turnbull DFA'ed as well, because players removed today aren't DFA'ed, they are non-tendered.
  11. You were putting words in Ryan Walters' mouth two weeks ago. Where did Pettiti say this?
  12. If anybody is making that case, 12 years after it was discovered a Big Ten school harbored a pedophile who was allowed to exploit dozens of boys in the school's facilities with the legendary head coach, at the most generous interpretation, looking the other way. Remind them. Others off the top of my head... Clem Haskins paying somebody who do all his students' school work and lying about it... DJ Durkin basically getting a kid killed in practice... Kirk Ferentz's hand-picked strength coach giving a sizeable percentage of the team Rhabdo... Bob Knight in all his Bob Knightness.
  13. Non-tender day! I expect the two DFA'ed players to be non-tendered today. Austin Meadows is a definite possibility. I guess one couldn't rule out Turnbull. Some other 40-man guys who can't be outrighted later in the offseason (due to injury or being added since August 15), thus could be non-tendered as a procedural move include Diaz.
  14. Because the people doing that holding are union mouthpieces above anything else these days.
  15. How are the mgoblog links any different from digitalpigsmuggler's MO? Cultlike propaganda, and hilarious to observe.
  16. I'm pretty sure she smokes, so even if I was her age, that'd be a non-starter for me. Reminds me of the one time I am pretty sure I met Kate Upton, or somebody who looked a lot like her wearing a Tigers hat at a bar, pre her dating JV, saw a wrist tattoo and stuck to my strict rules...
  17. She strikes me as dumb enough and thinks she's smarter than she is to improperly use reflexive pronouns.
  18. Hanifee and Pacheco DFA'ed. Both will be non-tendered on Friday. For separate reasons they can't be outrighted after today.
  19. Bligh Madris is back on a minor league deal.
  20. I didn't have MLB.TV in Lewin's day, but how was it handled when he had national duties back then?
  21. Anybody listen to Stavenhagen's pod yesterday? He was on fire, criticizing Tork's player of the year and Morosi being a parrot for Eduardo.
  22. Benetti started with ESPN on the national stage. Worked his way up to more CFB and CBB assignments, and as a backup MLB guy. ESPN let him work Olympic Baseball for NBC in 2021. Not something we will have to worry about until 2028. He also did Peacock games while still at ESPN before moving to Fox. He moved to Fox last year when ESPN reduced its baseball package, so instead of the occasional Monday game before, it is now a regular Saturday game as well as Saturday College Football. Basketball won't interfere, except maybe Spring Training. It is pretty standard. Off the top of my head, the Orioles, Red Sox, Twins, Braves, Mariners, Phillies, Dodgers, Giants, and Brewers have a national broadcaster on their TV Play by Play. Giving Gania some reps on radio isn't the worst thing in the world. Dickerson is in his mid 60's, and I honestly don't know if Benetti's disability make it less likely he is able to broadcast into his elder ages.
  23. Their news intake involves an hour of fox news every week, not much else and they feel peer pressure to vote R. Maybe an idiot. But trying to understand WHY is how you persuade, not dismissing them. One friend I know, in his 40's, has his family basically tell him who to vote for. It was a weird dynamic when I was with him at a golf tournament and his cousins came and reminded him who to vote for in the city council election. It was really odd.
  24. I do recommend logging some of these really bad Trump things, keeping a word doc somewhere with links. Just so, come September, you can start to have some of the more egregious things at the ready to some fence sitters you catch wind are planning on voting for him. Also, I'm looking for persuasive ways to convince people who seem to think he'll be a magic bullet for inflation.
