  1. From the article: "Morse, the RedState editor, said in his essay that "diversity isn't a bad thing by itself," but that when it becomes a major focus, the story takes a backseat to an ideological agenda." Somebody is making it a major focus alright...
  2. This looks like one of those headlines that comes when someone is telling you to write a story to fit an ideological quota. Literally not newsworthy at all.
  3. For sure, I don't even think he's any good tbh, I criticized him a lot early in particular. It's just that there have been exceedingly few examples of guys providing value and / or outkicking their coverage talent-wise this year and he's one of them. Which, of course, it's infuriating when you have to throw names like Harold Castro and Drew Hutchison around in this conversation lol
  4. I know I ask this a lot, but does Henning have any real insights into the machinations in the org? Even in this article, it reads more like a vehicle to give his personal opinion on certain candidates versus anything containing insight on the Tigers search process. Chas' comment about Slater and background kinda hints at that... not surprising Henning likes him given similarities to Avila.
  5. My vote is for Drew Hutchison... DFA'd a bunch of times, yet one of their more effective pitchers and one who hasn't hit the injury list. Infuriating.
  6. All true. But there is one bright spot that you don't have to squint too hard to see... Al Avila is gone. That wasn't treated as a given around here until it actually happened.
  7. Obvious answer is money. But the idea of playing behind his brother (theoretically possible as early as next year) is something the Tigers can give him that no other team will. I doubt he comes here, but the pieces kinda fit regardless.
  8. Pineda seems like a good guy, but it's the right thing to do
  9. I've been a long time advocate for Wilmer Flores on this board and feel he's an unusually good fit for their needs. And not just because his brother is one of the Tigers top prospects... because he can play both first and third fairly well and is would be their best hitter if he was on the team this year. Best case scenario never happens. But he'd be a better stopgap than Candy
  10. Ali Sanchez is probably a 40 man guy at this point, unless the team is more aggressive with Dillon Dingler than one anticipates. But it's hard to see him breaking camp with the Tigers
  11. Honestly a great question for Ed or Microline, but what would be a reasonable AAV projection for Candy on the open market given his past and his results this year? I know it's not $7mil, but just my intuition is that it it can't be much above $3mil AAV
  12. It really comes down to what he demands on the open market.
  13. There's been some speculation that you could still nontender him and that he might still be available for more favorable terms afterward.... That might be a risk worth taking.
  14. Kinda wondering if he's destined for the bullpen at this point...
  15. fourth times the charm?
  16. Was speaking more to the idea that the contours of differences within industries between someone like Austin Meadows and Jacob Barnes doesn't exist in other industries... that exists everywhere and does transcend white and blue collar industries, at least in the engineering/construction world. But again, all blue collar industries aren't all the same, and even within them a lot of perks or deference may be based on whether positions are highly skilled or not, sources of funding / clients being served, whether positions are unionized, etc., so I'm a bit hesitant to just assume that nobody from a blue collar industry can avail themselves of help when they need it. As usual, it all depends.
  17. With all the holes, one can maybe see the argument to tender him if he were playing adequate defense. But just too many plays like that this year on defense... I dont think he's worth tender money at this point.
  18. Candyman can!* *(Mess up a routine throw to first base)
  19. I have no idea what Kreidler's long term prospects are, but he certainly looks the part of glove-first infielder lol
  20. Curious... how everyone who becomes a conservative icon seems to end up a fraud or an adulterer.
  21. Oh, I think it's the case in some blue collar industries as well Equipment operators tend to get more compensation / benefits than laborers in the construction industry, for instance.
  22. Doesn't this describe most industries? Someone who has more seniority or more highly compensated in my industry tends to get more compensation and / or benefits in my industry, but maybe that's different for others
