  1. The argument that they will need another catcher on the roster is obviously compelling, but I remain mystified at what Barnhart gives you that can't be supplemented by Dustin Garneau or Ali Sanchez at this point.
  2. In fairness to Correa, he has a much better WRC+ than Baez and that puts him among the better shortstops. But nonetheless, his production has been underwhelming for a guy who signed a $35 million dollar contract and who expects to opt out to get more. In either event, there are multiple guys in free agency who are better options. Though I doubt the Tigers will be shopping for a shortstop this offseason regardless of who they hire.
  3. I was using WAR, Baez is 1.2 and Correa is 2.2 per Fangraphs Correa is obviously better on that score. But $35 mil/year is a lot for someone who ranks 13th in WAR among SS.
  4. I'm not even sure that Correa is the most preferable SS on the market. I'd rather have Trea Turner or Danby Swanson at the money they likely would command.
  5. Correa's production per AAV isn't that much better than Baez this year. That obviously could change in future seasons, but seems noteworthy
  6. The point that there are differences between the PPP and this latest action is completely fair and shouldn't be ignored. I know PPP wasn't a true loan program and was more designed as a grant. And overall, the PPP was necessary, even if there was fraud. Having said that, we also need to acknowledge that many of the politicians who are decrying this action as being a "handout" did, in fact, take handouts of their own with PPP and do when they take farm subsidies checks as well. And countless other programs. And while PPP did help a lot of businesses who needed it, let's not pretend that everyone who participated needed it either. How is it not hypocritical for them to protest this particular action?
  7. I look forward to all the folks who ignored or defended all of Trump's tweets screeching about decorum lol
  8. Beginning to think Dobbs is this seasons "defund the police"...
  9. Thanks..... Still enough chaff to clear room one would imagine.
  10. Some of those 60 Day IL guys will be staying there as well for at least part of 2023 as well (Mize, Skubal). It would seem like they'd have enough room for the must adds and a couple of the fringey guys once they cull the chaff of the current roster (ie. Short, Cameron, Clemens, Davis, Castillo, Hutch would be my guess, but the team may have different ideas)
  11. Extend that range back to July 5 and get back to me.
  12. This seems to be what has the most traction, at least more than the moral hazard / class warfare debate. And it's something we should all agree on. It would be nice if we had a functioning government that didn't require reconciliation in order to do anything big, because this is a problem that we need to tackle, like, yesterday.
  13. Not an expert by any means, but my understanding is that funding levels in the public university space, set by state governments, are a factor as well - states have, over time, generally reduced funding, which then gets passed onto the consumer (ie. kids and their parents). Is this fair to say?
  14. Is the Target Insyght poll a D internal? District level polling can be a crapshoot, but if Dixon's numbers are like that in a district anchored mostly by Macomb County, she's going to have a lot of trouble winning Michigan.
  15. Interesting map, although Kansas kinda makes these estimates look conservative. My guesses would be OK, AR, AL, LA, MS WV, and UT. TN and KY seem like coinflips (KY will be on the ballot this fall I believe)
  16. If its 71-18 in California and a similar amendment (written inversely) in Kansas was 59-41, then how many states would actually pass a similar amendment? 5, 6?
  17. Yeah... its not a slam dunk to do this tbh, but a big reason why we are here is a failure of public policy. And I'm old enough to remember the Chuck Grassleys of the world clapping like seals when the last administration ignited a public policy failure (ie. trade war) and responded by cutting government checks to farmers to fix the mess. So, while I think there is a fair debate to be had on whether the policy is right or not, so many of those who oppose this are flaming hypocrites and will take any and all government money that heads their way in other instances. And I just don't have much patience for it.
  18. If there's one criticism, it is that it largely doesn't fix the root cause going forward. That said, for all the teeth gnashing from the Rs, I don't really take them seriously in terms of wanting to fix the problem tbh, given their hatred/demonization of higher ed.
  19. Frankly, this is spot on.
  20. Also suggests that, if Tarik returns to full strength next year, they may yet at least net a "Big 2" out of the "Big 3"
  21. The debt forgiveness parts are admittedly tricky, but a lot of the additional proposals related to amounts owed relative to income and on interest seem like good things to me. It would be nice if this were coupled with a discussion or legislation dealing with the actual cost of college though.
