  1. Good Lord, he may actually be worse than Oz lol
  2. Patrick Sandoval day for the Angels. Over under on runs 0.5?
  3. (It was a Big Lebowski reference)
  4. Those are some good burgers, Walter...
  5. Huh, turns out he had nuclear secrets after all
  6. Nah, I just dedicate too much time to horrifically bad baseball 🤣
  7. I'm mostly surprised that the guy from the Cards that Lynn mentioned wasn't Randy Flores... he has been the name that Cody and others have floated.
  8. Probably a decent gamble....
  9. Cody is the best writer on the beat and I don't have much to criticize him for, tbh. To the extent that I do, I think there's a tendency to pass along comments like the ones about Grossman or to share the comment he heard about the draft room being 80/20 for drafting Neto without much of the context that comes with it. And the readership / listenership just tends to accept that as fact without thinking about the greater context. The latter comment is a particularly good example, the difficulty I have with just swallowing that uncritically are the power dynamics at play inside the Tigers right now; with Al gone, and not without reason, he makes a pretty convenient scapegoat, particularly for employees who are still employed by the team and may be worried about their future given all the changes on the horizon (in other words, current employees wanting to differentiate / launder themselves of the Avila era). To be clear, I am not saying that what was said isn't true or, at the very least doesn't have some truth to it. But as we should all know by now, whether it's politics or sports, people talk anonymously to the media for a reason.
  10. I doubt it, I believe he explained on last week's podcast that even the fact that he was talking to the media and suggesting that the Braves had been proactive coming to him with ways to address issues in his swing still reflected poorly on the Tigers even if he had cooled down. Obviously do not disagree with him on that, but knowing that, I do think The Athletic may have been too quick to swallow the narrative put forward by the Braves/Grossman as well.
  11. Injuries could be part of it for a couple of players - Candelario, Baez and Grossman (before he was traded) all had stints on the IL and one wonders whether there has been any impact there. (Not an excuse, but perhaps a partial explanation). Again to preface that this isn't an excuse either, but for some of the hitters perceived to be more impact players coming into the season, it may just be harder to hit in a lineup when doesn't scare the other team. Javy would be Exhibit "A".... in the past, he's always been more of a complementary piece rather than being the guy. If he's on the Mets again this year, he likely blends in and might end up seeing better pitches to hit, not so much with this lineup.... there's no place to hide when you're being backed up with the Castro Brothers
  12. The recent results from Robbie make the small hot stretch he had after the trade look a lot like the couple of games he had against the Rangers when he was still with the Tigers.... a small dead cat bounce with water reaching level afterward. I do think the Braves may have been a little too quick to declare victory on this one....
  13. For sure. To that end, for as much as the "anti-wokeness" crowd complains about the excesses of "wokeness", they can be just quite grating and heavy handed in their approach IMO. Often mimicking what they complain so much about
  14. Granted I'm not the biggest consumer of pop culture out there, but if someone is upset enough with casting choices for TV based on a fictional book series to give quotes to a story like the one above... just, go step on some grass or jump in a lake or something.
  15. From the article: "Morse, the RedState editor, said in his essay that "diversity isn't a bad thing by itself," but that when it becomes a major focus, the story takes a backseat to an ideological agenda." Somebody is making it a major focus alright...
  16. This looks like one of those headlines that comes when someone is telling you to write a story to fit an ideological quota. Literally not newsworthy at all.
  17. For sure, I don't even think he's any good tbh, I criticized him a lot early in particular. It's just that there have been exceedingly few examples of guys providing value and / or outkicking their coverage talent-wise this year and he's one of them. Which, of course, it's infuriating when you have to throw names like Harold Castro and Drew Hutchison around in this conversation lol
  18. I know I ask this a lot, but does Henning have any real insights into the machinations in the org? Even in this article, it reads more like a vehicle to give his personal opinion on certain candidates versus anything containing insight on the Tigers search process. Chas' comment about Slater and background kinda hints at that... not surprising Henning likes him given similarities to Avila.
  19. My vote is for Drew Hutchison... DFA'd a bunch of times, yet one of their more effective pitchers and one who hasn't hit the injury list. Infuriating.
  20. All true. But there is one bright spot that you don't have to squint too hard to see... Al Avila is gone. That wasn't treated as a given around here until it actually happened.
  21. Obvious answer is money. But the idea of playing behind his brother (theoretically possible as early as next year) is something the Tigers can give him that no other team will. I doubt he comes here, but the pieces kinda fit regardless.
  22. Pineda seems like a good guy, but it's the right thing to do
  23. I've been a long time advocate for Wilmer Flores on this board and feel he's an unusually good fit for their needs. And not just because his brother is one of the Tigers top prospects... because he can play both first and third fairly well and is would be their best hitter if he was on the team this year. Best case scenario never happens. But he'd be a better stopgap than Candy
  24. Ali Sanchez is probably a 40 man guy at this point, unless the team is more aggressive with Dillon Dingler than one anticipates. But it's hard to see him breaking camp with the Tigers
