Gallo is on a one year deal. Maybe if the Yankees wanted a team to assume most/all of his salary for 2022 and that sweetened the return you'd get back in a reliever deal it would make sense, but outside of that, it would be pretty pointless to take him on. It seems likelier they just DFA him after the deadline, but maybe I'm wrong.

My post wasn't necessarily a joke.... his comments, particularly mentioning the fans, suggest to me that he's pretty pissed off and doesn't want to be traded. Which puts him at odds with the front office who, at a minimum, hasn't ruled it out. Goes back to what 1776 said yesterday... the fact that we are even talking about needing to trade Skubal because of lack of depth in other areas is a global failure for the General Manager.

Meadows is still in Erie? He probably just struggled with the adjustment from High A to AA and has worked through it. Which is really an encouraging sign considering where he was a year ago

Still think Passan's blurb was interesting and advanced things a little more beyond what Rosenthal reported yesterday (ie. price exorbitant, multiple GMs expect him to move). Anonymous execs have been wrong before and may have their own motives for talking to the press tho.

It's definitely a case of tradeoffs as well... Luis Castillo or Frankie Montas may be better options, but they are also controllable for a much shorter period of time. Using the Cards again because they seem like a really good fit (at least to me), they could value Skubal's youth and controllability over a longer period of time, especially given the size of the market that they play in, the fact that their most useful starters (Wainwright, Mikolas) are guys who are closer to the end than the beginning, and just how they have generally operated in acquiring players over the years.

No, but I do believe there are clubs who would pay more than an 27 y/o oft-injured, past prospect status outfielder. And there are at least a couple of contenders out there where you could easily see Skubal penciled in and getting postseason starts. Cardinals come to mind, especially with all of their injuries and general mediocreness of their starting pitching

If, to borrow Jeff Passan's term, the expectation is that the price for Skubal is expected to be "exorbitant", I don't think Skubal for Kyle Lewis is gonna get it done.
