  1. Miguel isn't going anywhere, for better or worse. They aren't going to unceremoniously cut arguably the greatest Tiger player in modern history before his final swan song year. But if the team wants to reduce his playing time and / or move him down the order, it is incumbent upon them to improve this lineup or create a pretense by which to do it. That pretense does not exist yet, which says a lot more about the Tigers than it does about Miguel at this point in his career.
  2. They have about four or five guys that would have been better off pitching in Toledo this year, but what is preferred and what is reality often doesn't mix. The reality is that Garrett Hill and Elvin Rodriguez are already on the 40 man roster and, to varying degrees, could factor into the future of this ballclub. In order to bring Keuchel on, you have to DFA someone off the 40 man roster.... is it worth giving someone the boot for Keuchel, particularly when you have Manning, Rogers and Turnbull who are on 60 Day IL and will require roster maneuvering if they come back this year. I just don't see it as being worth it, particularly for a starter carrying a 9 ERA.
  3. Still taking a pass
  4. In a lost season such as this one, it'd be nice to see what he can provide. One imagines he would have had a chance before his last injury. I'm not saying he's Clayton Kershaw lol
  5. In the case of the Uvalde shooter, iirc, the shooter clearly waited until it was legal for him to obtain the rifle in order to obtain the rifle and bring it to the school. I don't think it's "all kinds of stupid" to think that barriers to entry can in fact be barriers to entry, but that's just me.
  6. Weeks like this make me think it's too bad we don't have our "Global Warming is a Hoax" thread for LooseGoose to be updating us with....
  7. I do think there's truth to this insofar that Chris I's ownership would look a lot better / more acceptable with better management. Because having the exact opposite type of owner who involves themselves too much (ie. Jerry Jones) isn't much better than Chris I.
  8. Joey Wentz is another guy who hopefully comes back as well.
  9. Maybe that's right, idk. Not Soto's biggest fan, especially having watched enough of him over the years, but I do suspect there are some baseball execs outside of the Tigers org who have a higher view of Soto's skill set than knowledgeable Tiger fans do.
  10. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/ranking-the-prospects-traded-during-the-2021-deadline/ Just for the purpose of this discussion, Daniel Norris (who was awful last year) managed to return the 13th best prospect involved in the deadline last year according to Fangraphs. I doubt the Tigers would get someone like Andy Pages for Soto, but I do think we may be undervaluing him somewhat in this discussion. Something like what the Pirates did with Clay Holmes, raiding someone's depth, could be achievable with Soto even if we dislike him a lot lol
  11. Maybe, but I don't know how much fans of other teams have the same negative impression of Soto that Tigers fans have. My impression is that our fans dislike our players more than other teams fans do lol
  12. One thing to keep an eye on is Rule 5 status for a lot of Tiger minor leaguers.... quite a few guys are going to be eligible this go round, including Ryan Kreidler, Reese Olson, Andre Lipcius, Kerry Carpenter, Parker Meadows, Wenceel Perez, etc. Within the context of the trade deadline, I wonder if that will have any bearing on the team in terms if there may be dark horse trade candidates we aren't talking about (ie. the Castros, to the extent either have any value) or how they may choose guys to add as throw-ins or sweeteners on deals.
  13. I know he's gone at the end of the year, but kinda hope that unless they are blown away, they just hold onto Pineda to help keep the rotation stabilized. Especially with inning limits being hit and whatnot. After Norris last year, IDK what to expect the relievers to bring back. Expectations are set pretty low on this front but wouldn't be surprised if they are exceeded either.
  14. I honestly don't know what Soto would bring back.... a lot of it may depend on finding a particular org that likes what they see in his skillset and see ways that they can improve him. I do think he brings back more than Fulmer tho.
  15. Cody is pretty fair in his assessments IMO, I doubt it has anything to do with "living in this town" or anything like that.... but he has his blind spots, and Soto is one of them.
  16. Joe Davis was an improvement on Buck, but that may be the only improvement to the telecast I saw lol
  17. Are they? I've said it before and I'll say it again, I look forward to the day when he's one of the worst hitters in the lineup. They aren't there yet, which says more about the Tigers than it does about Miggy at this point. And unfortunately, they aren't likely to be there by the end of next year.
  18. Trevor Hooth's attempt at an update post-draft. Luke Gold and Pat Pridgen are the two of the more intriguing picks to me, and it appears to be the case for Hooth as well.
  19. I believe they compete in a collegiate wood bat league, similar to the Cape Cod League
  20. As an aside, it is amusing to see all the Twitter GMs who have complained so heavily about the Tigers drafting Jobe now complaining about the emphasis on college players in this year's draft.
  21. Seems like a possibility
  22. Dominic Johnson, OF KSU (was kinda hoping they'd take him!)
  23. Numbers aren't exactly glowing on the stat sheet (except for K/9 anyway), but they must see something with the stuff
  24. Joe Miller and Jake Miller all in one draft
  25. One would imagine that they would want a bat, but also there may be a difference in the value of pitcher / batter that could be returned. Put another way, it may be easier to acquire a high ranked pitcher over a high ranked hitter.
