  1. At least they'll get better defense lol
  2. This is true. They did just come off of shutting down the Angels... still frustrating tho
  3. I love Cody, but he's just wrong here... it's not realistic to expect pitchers to throw a shutout every game. And often times the Tigers force their starters to do that.
  4. Still pretty impressed by the start for Brieske here... just completely failed by the offense so far
  5. Brutal brutal O
  6. Gonna be a shame that Beau's reward for his best outing as a professional will be his fifth career loss and an 0-5 record.
  7. Really not sure they have much choice but to ride this out...
  8. Dont want to jinx it, but this is the best Brieske has looked all season... only real mistake was the cookie FB to Judge (even the Stanton double wasn't that bad of a pitch)
  9. If Brieske can start landing that slider more consistently, he's gonna be more competitive
  10. What he may lack in raw talent, he makes up for mentally. His ability to bounce back and recover is impressive... nothing phases him.
  11. Hope Brieske took care of his pitch tipping problems lol
  12. This discussion really hinges on how much of an asset one thinks Castro is with the bat and whether the risks in the OF are worth it versus running Hill out there more frequently. From my perspective, it'd be one thing if he were producing like, say, Ozzie Albies. But as it is, the downsides outweigh the upsides. They just do
  13. You're right, of course.... but the calculation is that his bat is worth the risk that comes with him playing outfield.
  14. I honestly don't know who is driving Willi getting all the reps he's getting at the moment - I'm open to the idea that it's Al and not AJ driving it at this point. But he's already cost them one game this season in the outfield (in Houston)... at one point does the lack of defensive ability counteract whatever he brings with the bat? I feel like these conversations just sort of downplay the importance of defense, even on a team with as poor of production offensively as the Tigers.
  15. In other words, the experiment would be continuing. And it shouldn't. At least in Detroit anyway...
  16. Am I wrong in thinking that even when Meadows/Greene are up, there will still be a chance that Willi will be on the 26 man roster and getting OF reps? I get that the high amount of exposure is because of injuries, but some of it too is clearly by choice as well (from Al or AJ or whoever). Particularly when better options defensively exist.
  17. Maybe, but Willi was still getting reps in the outfield while Meadows was on the active roster.
  18. Yep, they rope-a-doped it last night pitching wise, leaving the bullpen largely in tact going into the rest of the series... may not have played out that way if they didn't get rinsed like they did.
  19. There's a tendency to sort of downplay defense in its importance during the course of a game in favor of offense. And it's tempting given how bad they have been offensively, but runs prevented can be valuable, as well as not giving up runs in the outfield. I understand that they are losing that game regardless because of how Gerrit Cole was pitching and how they looked at the plate, but he missed that ball in CF with two outs of a 2-0 game... if he puts that in his back pocket, I feel reasonably confident that game stays more in hand. It just changed the entire trajectory of the game... it changes the momentum, it likely altered how AJ used the pitching staff, etc. All of this is to say that the experiment badly needs to end when Austin Meadows gets back and if / when Riley Greene comes up. Last night may not have been the most winnable, but you risk losing something winnable in the future having him out there
  20. Exactly, has nothing to do with the gender, they just came across generally unknowledgable about the game and of both teams (particularly the Tigers)... Stands in contrast to the YouTube broadcast team a couple of weeks ago, both Carlos Pena and the PBP guy were pretty decent and knew what they were talking about.
  21. The commentary was awful, made Shep and Jack sound like Ernie and Paul Carey by comparison.
  22. As I've often complained on this board, particularly during COVID, the red state I live in has worked overtime to try and take authorities away from County Judges and Mayors and vest more power in the state. So yeah, there's absolutely no problem in ensuring that the state gets their fair share of the blame in terms of outcomes.
  23. We must always back the blue, 100%, no questions asked. /s
