"Seen this a lot haven't we" - Jim Price Lol
-
Only real surprise is that we didn't get a "can't make it up!" from Jimmie P
-
I can't believe they have Willi in the three hole lol
-
Come on...

I know. And my point is that he's not gonna exercise an opt out because he will not have another job lined up.

Odds are they will be placed similarly in the lineup for sure... just like old times!

I think this is overly harsh. But I will say the whole dynamic (bad GM, coach with previous success) reminds me a lot of the Millen/Mariucci era with the Lions. Mariucci was the more sympathetic of the two. But he wasn't perfect either, and he ended up on TV when it was all said and done.

I agree, but to your second point, he's not gonna "have another job" lined up before the end of his contract. Maybe they ultimately part ways in the end, but the big fear that Tiger fans always seem to express is that he's gonna opt out and go manage a contender. If that happens, I don't think that's happening until his contract expires

Trading Tarik Skubal would be insane and wildly desperate at this stage. There may come a time when it is necessary, especially if this franchise continues to flounder 3-4 years down the road, but he's controllable for far too long. It would be a massive middle finger to the fanbase.

I fall somewhere in between these views. I do think that a lot of Tigers fans assume that nothing that has happened under his watch (except for the good parts) reflects on Hinch at all, but I do not believe that MLB Execs think this way. They will look a lot more holistically at his record than fans do. And while, yes, he has a World Series on his record, he also presided over the collapse of his coaching staff in Houston and has had this time with the Tigers. That stuff will matter as well. I dont think he is stuck here and would be fully capable of getting a job on the open market, but he's not gonna have pick of the litter nor do I think it's a guarantee at all that he even lands one in the upcoming offseason. The big reason being is the mantra "what have you done for me lately"? Since AJ left Houston, there have been a number of successful teams and coaching staffs who have smart minds... teams like the Dodgers, Giants, Mets, Rays, etc. from which to look for future managerial talent. Nobody will "give" him a job, he'll have to earn it and compete for it. He's capable, not a guarantee tho. I dont think it is necessarily in either side's best interest for this marriage to fall apart. I really want it to succeed. And AJ has been a good influence on this franchise imo; a lot of the positive developments on the player development side, he's got some influence in that. Al needs to go, but I would like to see that happen while keeping AJ around.

Some of us do, but then are accused of blaming Hinch for all of this teams problems. I like AJ Hinch, even with all of their problems, but a portion of this fanbase treats him like a God who is above questioning. In light of the often-heard comment that is applied to him with doubleheaders (ie. sell out to win the first game, worry about the second game later), the decision last night to wait to get Chafin up until the bases were loaded looks pretty bad. It's easy to second guess, but he had a similar situation arise against Baltimore earlier in the year and had Will Vest up, so it's not as if it's unprecedented.

As much as some of the free agents have underperformed (ie. Baez) or have been MIA (ie. ERod, Pineda), the 2021-22 free agency period isn't why this team finds itself at this juncture. The factors you mentioned (drafting/developing, trading) are much larger factors.

Agree here as well. Clemens wasn't ever gonna be a savior, but they were gonna need to see what they had on the 40 man roster at some point.
-
I'd add Brieske, Faedo, Lange and Vest. But otherwise I can't disagree.
-
I wouldn't mind seeing Brendon Davis at some point, but otherwise, this is true.... Clemens is here (and hasn't been good), and we know what Zack Short can do.
-
I get it.... the bigger point is the status quo kinda needs to be rocked at this point. Whether that comes in the form of Coolbaugh being a sacrificial lamb or a surprise DFA (ie. Grossman). At least as an outside observer, guys just appear to be way too comfortable with the **** results.
-
I don't know if they need a different manager, but I don't know how anyone can watch this ****show at this point and not be willing to look at Hinch and his role in all of this. Particularly given that Coolbaugh is still employed and Hinch is probably the biggest factor in that still being the case.
-
I remember being told a few times in 2003 how it was a bold move to be wearing my Tigers hat around.... It just is what it is.... I wasn't born a Dodgers fan, unfortunately. lol

Why not both? We can talk talent all we want, but you've got numerous guys who aren't performing up to their career norms and appear to be exhibiting a lack of any sort of urgency to correct them. The status quo, which appears to be having ping pong tourneys, isn't gonna cut it.

I can't believe that someone was paid good money to waste time on this graphic lol....
