I get that saber debates can come across convoluted, sure, but using the fact that Neifi Perez struck out less than Javy has as evidence that he's was a better player than Javy has been lacks a *lot* of context and data. Particularly in terms of power hitting metrics and the impact they have on a players contribution to the team. Hence why OPS is where the rubber meets the road... I'm going with the guy who is 100 points higher than the other guy. Easy decision

Javy Baez, in now 128 plate appearances, has a .575 OPS. Not a great number by any means, but it's around 100 points higher than Neifi Perez during his time as a Tiger. Javy strikes out more than ideal and has rolled over on a lot of balls this year, but OPS is where the rubber meets the road... and it's not a contest in comparing the two.

I hope that, with Daz' performance today, that spells the end of Willi Castro getting reps in CF. (but somehow I doubt it lol)

Schoop is also hitting the ball harder than most people in the lineup. And his BABIP is awful in a way that one imagines is unsustainable. His numbers aren't great, but he's shown enough life over the past few weeks where he's off my list... Robbie Grossman on the other hand...

Also, I'm not sure it's a good idea to take Schoop's bat out of the lineup at the moment, or whenever Kreidler would be eventually ready for game action. At least recently, he's been one of the only Tigers to actually hit balls hard

"another Tiger starter down") just seemed deliberately provocative and could be interpreted to guarantee he would miss time when that wasn't (and still isn't) clear. Either way, when it comes to these injuries, particularly on one like Skubal's, it's better to just wait for official word before aimlessly speculating as to the severity.

Sure, but past isn't prologue nor is it predictive of future results in this sport either. Aside from the 2021 Tigers, the 2021 San Diego Padres are a great example... they ended the year playing .333 baseball (18-36 past 1 August), yet still finished 79-83. Different team, maybe more talent, maybe excused some by Tatis sustaining injuries, but still, teams can go through sustained periods where they play much worse than their final record. I'm not saying that I expect them to meet the number I gave them in Spring Training or even that they can get to 79 wins, I just don't know that looking at the record to date means all that much when judging where they might land when the season ends.

There are a lot of questions about the pitchers, but I keep going back to the hitters... largely guys with track records who aren't hitting their track records. That should change.

To an extent, I think he's "the guy" by default at the moment... ideally in a year or two, Tork and Greene fill that role. I do think that Javy and his contract are a pretty nice heat shield for Robbie Grossman at the moment... because if one guy in the lineup deserves an entire thread dedicated to underperformance, it would be him.
