  1. To be serious, the only way to really judge a pitcher in spring is to watch him pitch. Facing too many AA and AAA hitters from other teams. I just really hate seeing these guys warmed up, really getting loose in the 80⁰ Florida weather and then coming north and trying to pitch in 45⁰ weather. It has to be hard. But I'm prolly just over-thinking it. 🤫
  2. But that illegal block is after the interception, so the turnover would count, wouldn't it?
  3. I don't understand this rule change; "Owners on Monday also approved a proposal to allow for the enforcement of a major foul by the offense prior to a change of possession in a situation where there are fouls by both teams."
  4. They passed a new challenge rule. Teams now get a 3rd challenge if they win just one of their first two challenges. Also, they now go to official reviews on roughing the QB penalties.
  5. We need a few players to send down in May and to blame for another 3-15 start. 😉
  6. He had bad spring stats...<ducks>
  7. The park didn't seem to bother him;
  8. Faedo made the team with a strong spring. From the Free Press; "Faedo, 28, shredded hitters in spring training. He logged a 1.35 ERA with two walks and 17 strikeouts across 13⅓ innings in seven games." But...yeah...stats don't matter. 😆
  9. That's from Breaking Bad or something, right? 😅
  10. Exactly. A team full of AAA hitters would show limited power numbers for a ballpark over the 81 home games per season. But to say any power hitters would turn down millions of dollars to play in that park is kind of ridiculous. The much, much more obvious answer is the Tigers organization didn't offer any players a contract to play here.
  11. If it was so hard to score runs, the Tigers would build a team that could slap the ball all over the field. We've been at Comerica for over 20 years. Nobody has thought of this? Pitching and defense should be at a premium at this kind of stadium. But yeah, they stink, so nobody wants to play here. 🤓
  12. And Baseball America doesn't agree with you; https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories/a-new-way-to-think-about-ballpark-factors/
  13. Your theory has a flaw...if it were such a hard place to score runs, wouldn't dominate pitchers be lined up to come here and pitch? If home run hitters don't want to come here because they can't hit homers and it's not a good hitting park, it seems like the Tigers would have a staff if Cy Young candidates....
  14. I remember reading that Comerica is one of the better parks to score runs in. Maybe that's changed, I don't know.
  15. Ok. So if Brieske had a 28.50 ERA he would make the team as long as he was throwing quality strikes? Stats are a part of the decision on who makes a team, sometimes. Other (most) times, I agree, they're very meaningless.
  16. There's a huge difference between defending yourself and being guilty of slaughtering people. Killing in the name of god....smh
  17. They had strong springs and made the team. Saying spring training doesn't mean anything isn't always true. Players make a team or get cut from their spring performance every year. Some of it shows up in the spring stats, sure. But look at Torkelson this spring, he's hitting under .200. There's no doubt in my mind he wouldn't make a ML team if he were a rookie. So yeah, sometimes stats don't matter. But we also have a BP battle of 4 pitchers for 2 spots. I bet spring stats will be part of that decision. As well as who has options left. Spring performance matters, sometimes.
  18. Maybe after his contract expires, we'll be able to afford some real players. We said that for the last 2 or 3 years of Miggys contract and look at all the All-Star players we signed...😆
  19. I agree. Like I said, it's a sunk cost. But we should just run him out there, game after game? I hope Kreidler tears it up down in Toledo and forces the Tigers hand. I have more hope for him than I do for Javy.
  20. They don't mean as much on a team with established stars. But there are eye opening players during ST. I remember a time when Verlander and Zumaya made the team with very strong springs. But yeah, most of the time the spring stats are meaningless.
  21. I don't know. I'm so sick of watching Javy flail away at down and away sliders. Its a sunk cost and it's more expensive when you consider he actually costs us games with his horrible approach. Ryan, at least according to articles, was hurt and had core surgery. "They" say he's our best fielding SS, so his defense wouldn't hurt us. Anything he could give us at the plate would be a bonus. And could he really do any worse than Beaz? https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/mlb/detroit-tigers-shortstop-ryan-kreidler-is-headed-to-toledo-i-shouldve-made-the-team/ar-BB1koOkQ
  22. Many ST stats are useless. Look at what Javy did all spring and compare it to Kreidler. Ryan should have made the team. But it's all about money... Spring stats; Kreidler hit .355 with two home runs, eight walks and 10 strikeouts over 40 plate appearances in 18 games during spring training.
  23. 5. I have Scott Sizemore memories. Handing the 2nd base job to a player with zero MLB experience. It didn't work with Sizemore, hopefully Keith can hit a little. But thinking an addition of un unproven player is a plus is being shortsighted. Nobody really knows how/if he'll perform.
  24. How long do the Tigers give Javy? A month? 6 weeks? Remember how Einstein defined insanity.
