  1. I loved that era, and that team certainly had more talent. But I agree with others in that I prefer the current style of play and view it as potentially sustainable. As DD kept adding contracts like Fielder, JV-Miggy-VMart extensions, etc -- all players who were aging Nd slow on the base paths, I was always aware that there would be a down period of bloated contracts and aging stars. The down period turned out to be much lower than I expected. This culture is different. More aggressive. I loved the JV/Miggy era. I enjoy watching this style of ball more, and I have more hope it will be sustainable
  2. KC continues to roll and the Twins are playing better ball. The Central is gonna be a dog fight
  3. You just boosted the Tigers and they'll win even more
  4. While that's true, has there ever been a Boras client accept a smaller contract to stay with a certain team? It does happen (Cleveland with Ramirez, AZ with Burns). But generally, players choose Boras for a reason - to get the best contract. I hope I am wrong. I want him to stay.
  5. That's priceless!
  6. One of my childhood neighbors played for the Grand Rapids Chicks. Dolly was very kind to me always. RIP https://www.mlive.com/sports/2018/09/connie_konwinski_grand_rapids.html
  7. I agree, and believe there will be teams, likely including the Yankees who will pony up an even larger contract for Skubal.
  8. Everyone on the Cubs is raking. They're due for a collective slump
  9. I've also watched *61 about a dozen times. One of my favs.
  10. I would love to see a full length motion picture about the summer of 1976 and a dude called the bird. I was 10 that summer. It was one of the highlights of my life
  11. Nice article on Ranier's exit velo https://www.si.com/mlb/tigers/news/detroit-tigers-star-prospect-receives-wild-praise-from-scout-after-hot-start
  12. They will name a pizza after him
  13. I enjoy baseball movies, but Hoosiers is my favorite sports movie
  14. Gerrit Cole got 9/324 in 2020 when he was 29. I don't see Boras settling for less. And JV and Max got 2-3 year contracts @ 43 mil per approaching age 40. If Skubal agrees to a shorter deal he will be north of 40 per. Maybe even 6/270, something like that. He will get those kind of offers if he remains elite with no further injuries
  15. I like Field of Dreams and have a digital copy. My son and I have visited the movie site in Iowa twice and even pilfered a couple ear of corn from the outfield. Has anyone mentioned Bang the Drum Slowly? Sort of Brian's Song-esque and from the same era. One of Deniro's early films. I also like For the Love of the Game. Some guy took some of the stats mentioned in the film and made up a record for Billy Chapel: https://lividsquid316.wordpress.com/2010/07/12/billy-chapels-career-statistics/#:~:text=Also%2C I made sure his,1.15 WHIP (learn how to
  16. Reese has looked very good as of late. With Detroit's pitching, I don't foresee any extended losing streaks. Even when the Tigers slump in unison, pitching should keep them in most games
  17. Just heard this morning that Rickey Peters passed away in March. It's not updated on baseball reference but it is on Wikipedia. I remember him very well. Had a decent rookie season and I had hi hopes, and even traded for several of his rookie cards with my friends. Career BA .277 and OBP .356. Very light hitting and didn't last long. Not sure if injury played a role. Anyway, was sad to hear of his passing. Too young. RIP https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ricky_Peters
  18. The Angels are so bad. Makes me wonder if a team like LAA might throw a huge wad of money in Harris' direction. Hinch et al have also played a huge role in shaping the culture. This is so fun to watch.
  19. Yeah, he should probably focus on relief at this point. But I also think some team would be happy to give him a shot at starting. He must be approaching minor league free agency soon
  20. If Max and JV got 2-3 years at 43 mil per approaching age 40, I would think Skubal would be looking at 5/225-250. I think that's the minimum he might consider, should he continue his elite level through to free agency. But again, I also believe someone will offer him 9/400
  21. I remember talking with my father before Miggy's core injury and predicting he'd hit 600 HR, 3500 hits and 2000 RBI. It really was sad how early he fell off s cliff
  22. This might be the first off season in 15+ years that Detroit could be a positive destination for veteran free agents looking for a chance to win. Does Det bring back Beasley, Hardaway or Schroeder? Or go after some other vets? Should be a fun off season
  23. That's a lot of curly fries
  24. I have my doubts that Harris will ever give a huge, long-term deal. Such a small percentage turn into a positive for a team, for pitchers or position players. A small handful of teams will go there. I would hate to see Skubal go, but am already mentally prepared for it to happen.
