And that’s how Jake Rogers can hit a triple. EDIT: New York might overturn it and pull the Dodgers’ ass out of the jackpot. EDIT 2: Maybe a make-up call by New York to let it stand, not as much of a biggie for their favorite team up three late.

Not for the Tigers, since he was never coming here.

One batter too much for Reese. That’s a shame.

This is why I don’t gamble: if I had somehow made this same bet and Duke ended up losing the championship game on a half-court buzzer beater, I might end up jumping head first off a bridge into the Chicago River.

Team 8 still has four 9 o’clock games. I think you’re right: AI LLMs are not cut out for logic.
-
My guess is that the most common thing people use it for is to write things for them because they themselves can’t write for ****. I’ve tried inputting a few things a LLM to see whether it can improve on it on what I’ve written and they never can. I’m always hoping to see a dramatic improvement in clarity and style, but all l’ve ever seen them do is switch out my discretionary phrasing decisions for theirs. I assume I’m not a great writer as much as LLM is still in its toddlerhood.

Hey, man, don’t cheat Dan out of that 2/3 of a tenth of a point.

I know what I said. 😁

I am no longer pooing on Baby Doc. He’s won me over. I’m a convert.

Twelve teams going to the bank by pocketing the difference in spend. The Cubs is especially galling. Any goodwill the Ricketts might have had from the 2016 world championship is, as Ernie would surely intone were he here today, looooong gone.

Or worse, Germany in the '40s. Ours will also become a bribe- and kickback-based economy, in which companies doing business with the Trump regime, or even we the taxpaying suckers, will have to pay someone a little sumpin' sumpin' for things like getting on the schedule in the first place, getting a place on some wait list, having someone actually show up for the job after we contract for it, maybe even to receive our income tax refund check at all. Won't that be a hoot. We are already seeing the beginnings of this as Republican congressmen engage in special pleading to protect government assets in their particular districts from being gutted.

Counterpoint: since the New York and Los Angeles DMAs make up 11% of the US population all by themselves, and the teams both have a fan footprint that straddles the country, it's in Baseball's best interests to privilege these two teams to maximize their on-field success and, by extension, Baseball's total revenue overall. The remaining 28 owners are mollified by the substantial profits they get from owning a baseball team that both throws off hundreds of millions in revenue and increases in valuation, and which they don't even have to spend on to seriously compete, because competing is a nice-to-have, not a must-have.

They're crashing the economy so they can game the markets along the way.

I might tweak this to be a little closer to 1/3 support, defend, and celebrate his perceived divinity; 1/3 hate him and everything he represents; 1/6 bull**** themselves into supporting him because they see him as a tax-cutting business-first Republican with unfortunate behavioral ticks they can overlook because it hasn't affected them directly yet; and the remaining 1/3 don't know and don't care what's going on because it hasn't affected them directly yet.

On the other hand, aren't the Dodgers actually doing it right by putting to foot all the way down on the pedal to put together the best team possible? How many other teams, almost all of whom are run by billionaires, are doing that? Opening Day payroll: Team 2024 2025 Increase Dodgers 221 321 $100 Orioles 94 150 $56 Padres 154 197 $43 Phillies 236 278 $42 Tigers 95 131 $36 Angels 159 192 $33 Red Sox 162 184 $22 Twins 119 137 $18 Diamondbacks 157 174 $17 Reds 88 103 $15 Mets 302 315 $13 Jays 222 233 $11 Mariners 129 138 $9 Royals 105 113 $8 Athletics 48 55 $7 Nationals 95 100 $5 Pirates 72 75 $3 Brewers 94 94 $0 Guardians 86 82 ($4) Rays 88 73 ($15) Rangers 222 206 ($16) Yankees 294 272 ($22) Rockies 134 112 ($22) Braves 225 202 ($23) Giants 189 158 ($31) Cubs 216 184 ($32) Astros 237 204 ($33) Marlins 84 47 ($37) Cardinals 164 122 ($42) White Sox 118 59 ($59) All 30 Teams 6633 6736 $103

Would it be a huge surprise? Relievers are notoriously up and down from year to year, understandable considering how few innings they pitch. I was not a fan of Brieske until last season. His performance before that was simply not good, and I advocated for his hitting the bricks. Maybe he can shake it off and turn it around here. He’ll get the chance to.

That’s a key requirement for getting a pardon from Agent Orange: be a business criminal. Outside of the J6 flying monkeys, who else has he ever pardoned? It’s because they engaged in the same kind of business behavior he did. He’s covering up his own crimes by pardoning others convicted of them, since as far as he’s concerned, business crime is no crime at all. Wait until he starts pardoning sexual predators on the regular. That’ll be telling.

Hawk Tuah will be the next White House press secretary after Mrs. Crypt Keeper leaves the job. You watch.

Better hurry, because it won’t be long before Trump bans Americans from visiting Canada as long as they are their own country. This will be concomitant with a ban on European travel by Americans. Could never happen? Tell me why it can’t.
