  1. The only potential problem with that is that it implies that Biden acknowledges the committee engaged in criminal behavior, and RWM will run wild with that.
  2. Given who chooses the "wrong people" to run the state in the first place, it looks like their explicit intent is to punish the ordinary citizens of California.
  3. I'm guessing this effectively ends our pursuit of Sasaki.
  4. Agree, although I would add I care less about “how did they get him for that little?” than “how did they get him for that few?”
  5. I agree—Jim Leyland and Dusty Baker would never share any negative impressions of Justin Verlander with us. I would have been OK with signing him for 1/15, and I said so prior to his going to the Giants. If Harris thought he was a good fit and Verlander thought this the Tigers were a good fit, he probably would have, and i would have liked that. But he didn’t sign with us, for whatever reason, and I don’t rue that even a little. Now he’s signed with a team with a GM whom he faced on the field, which based on his press conference, seems important to him. Mazel tov, Justin, best of everything to you.
  6. Yes, and not only this—they have not extended Vlad. Can you imagine being a big-time free agent committing to years in Toronto and watching Vlad sign with the Yankees or Red Sox next winter?
  7. Hey, man, they have to keep listeners engaged satisfy advertisers. 😏
  8. We actually won a playoff series last year not only without making any acquisitions, but by selling off a reliable pitcher in the middle of a great year. Was that super lucky and we could never do it that way again? Maybe. But I’m encouraged that we have numerous players still on the upswing and should improve this year, some perhaps dramatically, instead of over-the-hill veterans having one last hurrah. I’m OK if Harris doesn’t sign Bregman or Santander or Alonso. I don’t think he needs to spend this offseason as though the money is burning a hole in his pocket. Although I could be talked into a couple years of Nick Pivetta.
  9. Agree, I’m sure you would agree that doesn’t mean the team should make roster decisions based on fan nostalgia. You’re perfectly right as a fan to be disappointed that JV won’t end his career here in a Tigers uniform. I liked him when he was here, too. But I also like that Harris is leading us from that era, which is long, long over, into a new one led by today’s and tomorrow’s stars, not yesterday’s stars. If I had to guess what one big consideration would be, based on everything I’ve read about JV over the years, it’s that Harris would not want a player like him coming into and acting like a huge ****ing prima donna in our carefully-constructed young clubhouse—especially a guy who’s old, hurt, and not pitching even halfway decently.
  10. We get the Commanders on six days rest. That’s a bit of a break.
  11. I think “All in the Family” might not get on TV today because it was on 50+ years ago. Its influence on our culture helped spur the decades-long backlash against the artistic freedoms it pioneered.
  12. Maybe Shell should sponsor Semiquincentnennial Minutes on CBS.
  13. Did she hear it from MAGA media? It sounds like the kind of thing that might have started there.
  14. It’s one of the reasons I fear people who get the worm in their brain and become practically unrecognizable versus what they were before.
  15. They’re angry because they’re stupid, or at least ignorant. They don’t get how things work, so they lash out against the big unknown.
  16. The internal improvement is a huge wild card. Is second half Parker for real? Can Trey Sweeney improve by a step or two? Can Colt Keith move up a notch or two with the stick? Can Jace Jung put it together at third? Can Casey Mize and Spencer Torkelson find whatever it is the whole world thought they had when they went 1-1? Is there another Tyler Holton lurking on the 40? Those might be the kinds of considerations that are going into Harris’s thinking as he’s considering roster additions from outside. I’d be surprised if Harris threw more than three years at Bregman (or if he signed Santander at all), and I’d be equally surprised if Bregman wanted to stay in Detroit more than a year anyway.
  17. I have been wondering lately whether being Spanish-speaking Latin American hurts perception of such players in general, particularly from before the 2010s. I have lots of little data points in mind that make me wonder that.
  18. Even though he’s wearing Olde English on the plaque, I think Morris might have been put in by his peers mainly for his 1991 Game 7 with the Twins, although, also, they respected him while they were on the field together. His overall body of work is at best debatable, but even if his stats gives him a nudge over the bar, the writers were never going to put him in because reasons.
  19. I’m wondering whether Harris is strongly considering how injecting a veteran with a big money contract is going to affect that balance. We had a team making the playoffs last year that was literally half rookies. All the big money guys we had signed for the season—Baez, Flaherty, Maeda, Canha, the $10+MM guys—were all either hurt or traded by the time the Tigers started really winning. The team that went 31-13 to finish the season were a bunch of kids cobbled together mainly through the draft, waiver wire, sell-off deadline deals, and MiLB FA signings. There was a magic in the way they all came together to win together. Do you think Harris is considering the way a big money veteran will affect the way the team works together? Or do you think he’s, like, throw everything he can into win now and worry about tomorrow tomorrow, he might not even have a job after next year?
  20. Someone from Homeland security is so fired …
  21. Prospective investors dipping their toe into the information for the first time are usually told that average stock market returns are 8% or 10% or 12% or even more, whatever the number of the month is, which is higher than probably 99% of all active mortgages.
  22. Yeah, this was a good one.
  23. The new standard for what constitutes proper ethical behavior.
  24. Yes, and yesterday’s ruling was the true conservative position.
  25. Amy Coney Barrett has surprised in a few of her rulings. Trump now has buyer’s remorse and she is now headed to the MAGA enemies list.
