I'm pretty sure there is, although I interpret the story as changing the test from something that is achievable and can be objectively scored to something subjective that is up to the person who's giving the test in the moment. That's essentially how the southern literacy tests for voting worked—as long as the loyalists were put in charge of the testing, the state got the result they sought.

This is why the whole fantasy of Trump being suddenly disgraced, falling out of power, and he and all the MAGA elite being publicly frog-marched to justice is just that: a fantasy. As with the traitorous southerners who were allowed back into national power in the late 19th century, and top Nazi scientists who fled to the US and were accepted into the economy and society here, there will be a spirit of reconciliation between the top MAGAs and the remaining American elite in the interest of reestablishing peace and normality, and the poison ideology would survive and merely evolve within whatever the new world would become.

I also think this is correct. The old bust-then-boom-then-bust-again ethos is a relic of past administration. I suppose there's always a chance Harris gets canned and Ilitch hires another analytics-agnostic type, and then we can slide back into that pattern, but I sense that won't happen for numerous years. Imagine you have 20+ years remaining in your dream career and you have a golden opportunity to blow the whistle, in a very public and news-making manner, on a criminal conspiracy in the department you work in. It is a conspiracy that made your company billions and with which you could be reasonably associated by innuendo. The likely end result of your quitting and blowing the whistle is that your career in that and related industries is effectively terminated, with you yourself potentially facing sanctions for that. The alternative is ride it out, hope that it comes to light through other means, you get cleared in the investigation, and you get to continue your career—although, also, it may never get exposed as long as you're there, and you may end your career with no one the wiser and your cushy retirement assured.
