I noticed this the other day, too. As of last season, about 32% of MLB players are Latin, another 6% African American, and 3% Asian, which adds up to about 42% non-white. The Tigers projected 26-man roster as of this morning is 21 white (81%), three Latin (12%), one Asian, and one African American (remember, Flaherty identifies as black). And one of those Latins is a hip pointer away from being replaced by another (sub-replacement) white guy. I'm willing to believe that this was a random consequence of front office philosophies in rebuilding the organization and not an explicit ethnic cleansing of the roster. That said, the paucity of obviously African Americans on the team can't be helping with rebuilding fandom among black Detroiters.

Can you imagine if the Eagles had actually accepted the invite? Trump would have spent the entire time talking about how the city they play for stole the entire 2020 election from him.

This is definitely where this sentiment got, if not exactly started, then supercharged. If it were George Bush Sr. who'd said that instead of Ronald Reagan, this country would probably be a very different place.

Everything in America is essentially under the supervision of billionaires, one way or the other. The $64 question is how direct a hand the Trump government will have it the development of AI.

There is nothing Zelenskyy could ever do to help his case with Trump, since Trump is already "дело верное" for Putin, but I would say that Zelenskyy's decision to publicly snipe back at Trump put Trump off track and caused him to lash out, which hurts Putin's efforts to get the American people on Russia's side, or at least to forget about Ukraine. Trump is more openly exposing himself as Putin's stooge, and people are pushing back against that, which we've been seeing in these Republican town hall videos. So, Andrew Kramer of the Times, to the degree that the Trump regime is responsive to US public opinion, seems to me what Zelenskyy is doing might actually help Ukraine.

Kind of hard to underestimate how powerful and effective four-plus decades of “the federal government is evil and must be destroyed” rhetoric has been.

Maybe it's because people in need of organ donation generate more revenue than people do after they receive organ donations? That's the only reason that makes any sense in today's world.

I think that number (b) point is an especial sore point for them. They may or may not be aware how much less government employees make than people int he private sector do, but when they hear anything about health benefits or 403(b) plan participation for taxpayer-funded government employees, those red hats see red.

Not a few of them also experience chronic physical pain which constantly agitates them, and they end up lashing out in unpredictable ways. A lot of those folks end up blaming the government for any action which might help or at least not hurt immigrants while they themselves continue living with pain. I know someone exactly like this.

Didn’t you just know that (a) his example wasn’t going to be anything like what’s happening to federal workers now; and (2) he was going to imply he was happy to have it happen?

Plus, these new companies run by the Trump Musk inner circle oligarchs will end up hiring all these people who have been furloughed at a third to half less of what they make now, but now with the elimination of certain employment and retirement protections and a severe reduction of others. And the best part will be, taxes on all of us outside the upper 1% will increase to pay for it all.

I’ve had a bunch of ****ty jobs in my day, but even I never experienced such chaos, confusion, and cruelty like this in any of them. And I’m not talking only about the email from FElon.
