  1. Makes sense. There was no way Fox and Hannity were going to take a chance on a rogue questioner.
  2. I think the next steps might be (1) sign two pitchers to longish-term contracts, like, three years, a starter and a reliever who fit the system but are undervalued in the marketplace—I have no names as of yet; (2) find a hitter who also fits the system and will sign a two-year deal to be a placeholder or a flip piece as we wait for lower-minors prospects to gel; (3) prepare Jackson Jobe to make his major league debut at some point next season.
  3. This just landed with me—Chapman pitches as well? How did I miss that?
  4. Maybe Harris did make an offer. Not saying Chapman wouldn’t have been a good fit for the team, but at the time, there was nothing in Detroit for him to come here for, neither on or off the field.
  5. I wonder what Sartori and Menzin’s actual roles are in the organization? I thought maybe they’d be given the gate, but maybe they accepted substantially different roles in the organization from analytics. They are listed as “Vice President, Assistant General Manager” under Baseball Operations Leadership, but nowhere under Baseball Operations as it relates to analytics, performance science, or anything else, but I haven’t seen either of them representing the Tigers in the press or anywhere else. I wouldn’t be surprised to learn they have guaranteed contracts and have been offered title and a reduced role while the contracts are in force. But if I had to place a bet, it would be that neither of them have an active role in analytics anymore. By the way, on the front office web page, guess whose name is nowhere to be found? Hint: Special Assistants to the General Manager - Kirk Gibson, Willie Horton, Jim Leyland, Lance Parrish, Mike Russell, Alan Trammell
  6. lol yeah he was never coming to Detroit
  7. I agree that if they don’t win this game, they’re pretty much done. But at least we got into September before we could say that for sure. Chris Fetter isn’t going anywhere this winter. I can’t envision any scenario he’s going to build something just a little bit and then bolt, unless we think he’s a total flake, and nothing indicates that’s what’s up. He’s going to stick around until we either get as deep into October as it appears we’re going to with this iteration, or he figures out we’re going nowhere no matter what. In either case, we’re talking at least two more years, and more probably four-plus.
  8. That inning should also be exhibit A as to why you shouldn’t sac bunt in a seemingly indiscriminate way.
  9. Good lord, that was the worst I have seen a pitcher pitch and still not give up a run in a long time.
  10. Man, Brieske is both wild and getting clobbered tonight. One inning max.
  11. Man, you never see a guy at second fall on his ass and not advance on an outfield single.
  12. Well, a guy like Montero is gonna get shelled once in a while. Maybe we can score enough runs to cover it.
  13. Padres fans can’t be happy that Trey Sweeney left the Dodgers and yet here he is hurting them.
  14. Being called "boss" by random guys. I do a thing at this place three days a week, and as I walk in today there's a new guy, age 20 or so. We're passing by each other and I say "hey, how ya doin'?", slightly upbeat. He responds with a low intoned "'sup boss." I might have done the slightest of double takes on it before immediately interfacing with my coordinator about my job today. There's some Reddit debate about whether it's respect or patronizing. Now, I don't know about you, but I don't see it as respect. Mainly because most of the random guys who've called me "boss" looked to me in the moment like they were resentful or seething, like they wanted to kick my ass. "Oh, what, you think you're a boss? Wanna prove it?" It feels like that kind of thing. These have been people like certain car wash employees or auto repair, blue collar guys. Not all of them, not even most of them, but just the odd one here and there. And this kid presented like he's from an environment that privileges blue collar tough guys. I imagine what they're doing when they say that is trying to trick me into believing they respect me when in fact they mean it as an insult, same as when people say "bless your heart." Insults coded as compliments or flattery. Maybe it makes them feel clever. But I've never liked it, and it always makes me feel slightly on edge if I have to keep hanging around them for whatever reason. Well, at least no one I see on a regular basis does that.
  15. I still think they might vote for Trump because they hope he's being deceitful on their behalf.
  16. The offices of the Orioles are in the warehouse. I lived in Balto for almost a year and worked at Doner advertising out there, and I was at the Orioles' offices for a presentation. I couldn't help staring out the window at the field, even though it was January. My boss had to bark my name out, in front of the client, to snap me out of my reverie. Quite embarrassing. I was laid off a few weeks later, on, of all dates, February 29.
  17. No way Catturd2 is not Russian or Iranian ops.
  18. Perhaps they'll still vote for him because they think he is kidding, or even better, because they think he is lying just to suppress the libtard vote.
  19. Not for nothing, this:
  20. Five bucks says the Trump campaign will immediately start hammering this story to divert from the shooting in Trump country.
