  1. The Orioles just defeated the New York Mets in a doubleheader in Baltimore and the faces in the New York Mets dugout were very, very very grim.
  2. My son just called me upon leaving the local Regal RPX theater after watching James Gunn’s new Superman and he said it’s the most incredible superhero movie he’s ever seen and he’s been watching them for 15 years now so he’s kind of an expert. I trust his judgment on this. He said it easily exceeds Endgame which was pretty incredible. Sometime tomorrow we’ll see it in standard.
  3. For the first time in a long time I actually care, not that my “caring“ means much more than anyone else’s, but we all have a lot more at stake in this than we usually do. This thread is not intended to take the place of a specific game thread, but is just for the random discussion that arises leading up to the All-Star festivities What motivated me is that when I tuned in to mlb.tv to discover that the lowly Orioles are trying to complete a doubleheader sweep of the mighty New York Mets, one of the first things I heard from the announcers is that Skubal has been named the starter for the game. I don’t have any more confirmation of that yet, but whatever, knock yourselves out.
  4. I enjoyed the above discussion on DRS and WAR. It reminded me of the games and discussions among the smart kid Junior Stargazers In Wes Anderson's "Asteroid City.” This is a compliment by the way. I’m not being snarky. It’s one of the reasons I come here aside from begging for six runs. I actually learn things.
  5. That took some work and you had to read a bunch of stuff. I’m impressed, not that I think you can’t read or anything, but what you had to read.
  6. Although I chide Todd Jones I want to reiterate that I like him. He is a part of the lore of this club. My understanding is that Ernie loved him. I also understand that he’s a huge baseball fan who immersed himself in the history and lore of every team he played for because it was important to him and to the fans for whom he performed. In this sense he’s one of us, only he happens to actually have been a player too.
  7. Every team, but the Tigers, in the Central won today with collateral damage occurring at the expense of the Blue Jays and the Astros, both of whom we need to see fall. We still have envious leads over everyone, so aside from the Tigers losing it was a tremendous day.
  8. Guardians now leading Astros 4–0.
  9. The Guardians have righted their leaking ship and are still leading the Astros in the seventh 2–0.
  10. In terms of “scoreboard watching“ the White Sox won today and the Royals, the Guardians, and the Twins are all leading in their respective games.
  11. Studio on Apple TV was really good. It’s amazing how they managed to make studio execs characters you could empathize with, sort of a “sympathy for the devil” kind of thing.
  12. It’s free for me. My son pays for it and I like to watch the Foundation series which will be out soon, but that’s about the only thing I’ve watched on it aside from a couple other series.
  13. The audio in AJ‘s Detroit-based post game remarks is truly awful. I noticed when they were on the road the audio was normal. I don’t know why they can’t fix this.
  14. Looking forward to Friday’s game now.
  15. Loss. The Rays won this game. The Tigers didn’t lose it. I guess.
  16. Five runs would do it. They’ve done it before. They have embarrassed my embrace of fatalism numerous times.
  17. Frankie All-Star too
  18. To the Tigers credit, they do not spend a lot of time zeroing in only on hot young babes in the stands.
  19. But there’s two more chances, especially if we can avoid allowing more runs.
  20. I mean, winning the series at home against a top team like the Rays is nothing to be ashamed of. But it feels a bit like being pantsed in the locker room, kicked out the door, and the cheerleaders are laughing at you. We had good reason to think we could win this game.
  21. Never say never because these guys have surprised us so many times, but I get the feeling that might’ve been our last best shot. We’ll see.
  22. Given this game, that was not entirely unpredictable.
  23. Bases loaded for Riley Greene…
  24. Not fair not fair the Rays are acting like they want win this game bringing in different pitchers and stuff when it looks like the guy isn’t even melting down giving up five hits in a row. Is this a thing?
