Mr.TaterSalad Posted Tuesday at 03:41 AM Posted Tuesday at 03:41 AM Chris Webber traveled all that way to finally see Michigan win a National Championship. I hope he takes some time out for partying on his trip. 2 Quote
Mr.TaterSalad Posted Tuesday at 03:46 AM Posted Tuesday at 03:46 AM Michigan's defense was amazing all tournament long. They smoother everyone and win every lose ball rebound. Their shot blocking is incredible too. They are in position and on the ball like crazy. It was Michigan's defense that got them through the dance and got them a National Championship. One of the best defensive performances in the tourney in recent history. They destroyed Tennessee and Arizona, then kept UConn under wraps for much of this game. Great job by these kids to play shutdown defense all tournament long. Quote
buddha Posted Tuesday at 04:11 AM Posted Tuesday at 04:11 AM the big ten is champs in football, mens bball, and womens bball. Money talks. Quote
Shinzaki Posted Tuesday at 04:13 AM Posted Tuesday at 04:13 AM UConn got them into their game and they still lost...nothing more disheartening than that Quote

I hate the way the system is, but it's how it is. Dusty May is doing what I pleaded for years for Harbaugh to do. He's doing it the SEC way and finding success because he's a great coach himself. It's really ****ty that this is what college athletics has become, but at least Michigan finally caught up in the NIL era. Quote

Somewhere, lost in all the Noise and Chaos that is the current US government, there now are proposals beginning percolate between the Admin and the Senate, and enough interest that something may yet emerge. They could take some of the issues out the court jurisdiction, possibly rationalize things a bit, or just make it all worse! But in any case, I don't think we need to worry about the current state being the final word for college sports. Edited Tuesday at 04:59 AM by gehringer_2 Quote

Stanley70 Posted Tuesday at 01:14 PM Posted Tuesday at 01:14 PM Part of the reason Michigan has had to hit the portal is the tire fire that Howard left the program in. The fact that in Dusty's 2 years since the team went 8-24 he has led them to a sweet 16 and a title is amazing really. The best player on UConn, Reed, stated at Michigan and transferred out after Juwan left. I think moving forward, with or without congessional intervention, they will have more of a balance between recruiting and portalling. Quote

GalagaGuy Posted Tuesday at 07:27 PM Posted Tuesday at 07:27 PM The only way I see things getting fixed is with a salary cap, as ridiculous as that sounds for college sports. Cap how much any one player can be paid as well as how much a team can spend on their total roster. Quote

I think Buddha has mentioned collective bargaining - but getting even a subset of the schools on the same page to create a coherent bargaining unit on the management side seems like a daunting task. Hongbit Posted Tuesday at 08:59 PM Posted Tuesday at 08:59 PM (edited) Go take a look at the IG pages of Yaxel and Jeremy Fears at MSU. This is how NIL is supposed to work. Most of the posts are paid ads from large companies. Actual branding that is used to effectively market directly to kids of their generation. It’s not just free money handed out for nothing. It’s actual paid work that has value. Unfortunately, this doesn’t come close to solving the real issue which is there is no honor among thieves. Schools and their boosters are always looking for an edge and will continue to illegally use money to gain an advantage. The NCAA has tried to play ball and given every school $20M to legally pay players and that’s still not nearly enough. I don’t have the answers and I’m not sure they exist but they need to figure how to create penalties with some teeth in them. Edited Tuesday at 09:00 PM by Hongbit Quote
