This Is Spinal Tap

The Princess Bride

Stand By Me.

Those are all perfect movies, in my opinion.  They all had the perfect amount of humor and heart and every single joke lands.   And Rob set aside his ego and let improvisers improvise.    Those movies were all perfectly-cast.      When Harry Met Sally, Misery, A Few Good Men..........man, that's a list.

All in the Family is my second favorite sitcom of all time. It was ground breaking. It pushed social boundaries and norms by touching topics no one else would touch. It portrayed the American family as an imperfect group of people, where the past conflicts with the present. Rob Reiner's role as Michael Stivic, the educated, liberal meathead to counter balance the old, racist Archie Bunker, was perfect. Reiner and Carol O'Connor were perfect for one another on screen. Together, they produced so many iconic and downright hilarious moments. Rob Reiner, you will certainly be missed. RIP!

Out of the gate, at age 37, in order:   Spinal Tap, Sure Thing, Stand by me, Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally, Misery, A few good men.

All movies I have seen a few dozen times each.

So glad I had the presence of mind to go see him when he did a theater interview tour in support of the new Spinal Tap back in September. He was a good interview and told a great story about how the zit scene in the original came together.

I was struck by how much he sounded like Seth Rogen when he laughed.

I listened to his appearance on club random last month when driving back from TN.  They were riffing about something and said during filming of The Bucket List Jack told him 3 rules to live by at their age.   Don’t trust a fart, Never pass up a bathroom, never led a hard on to to waste.

Anthony Geary, Luke from General Hosptial died yesterday.

I always link Luke and Laura’s wedding, Prince Charles and Diana’s wedding, and the launch of the first space shuttle together in my memory bank.  I was 7-8 years old and I vividly remember how big of a deal those were at the time.  All happpend within about 6 months of each other in ‘81.

I had a roommate named Tony Geary.     He had epilepsy but never told me.   One night we're watching basketball and he has a seizure.  Scared the crap out of me.   One of his friends came over when this was happening and explained it.   Then when Tony got his wits about him he told me a joke that I couldn't repeat here because if it was linked to me I'd probably lose by job - but it was really funny.

When Tony was in High School he was a really good pitcher.  He was warming up before a game and had a seizure - and obviously didn't pitch that day.  The next time he faced that team a few weeks later the lead off hitter mocked siezure movements when he stepped into the batter's box.  Tony plunked him in the helmet.   The kid's coach told him "you deserved that".

Greg Biffle's jet crashed and 6 people are confirmed deceased.  Seems to be Biffle, his wife and their two kids.  I assume the other two are the pilots.

I don't think I will ever get on a small plane or helicopter ever again.

Erin Grey was my first crush probably.... those eyes.

My first crush (of someone I knew) was my older sister's friend who looked just like the girl in Jaws that points to the pond and yells "the shark's in the pond, it's in the pond"    I was 12 and she was 17, and I looked like I was 9 and she was cool and I was a little dorky kid.

The first woman that gave me tingles, pre-puberty,  was Batgirl in her purple suit.

First absolutely celebrity crush was Valerie Bertinelli.

I remember flying to Cleveland a few times (don't ask why the company flew us from Det to Clev....) in these little twin engine turbo prop Convairs that seated about 15 - door to the cockpit open (not sure they even had a cockpit door actually), flying low and bouncing all the way there. Way more flying 'experience' than I ever needed.

I don't know the details of this yet, but he was a pilot. I don't remember when it was but when NC got flooded he took his own helicopter to help people who were stranded. Sad story, seemed like a great guy.

How former NASCAR driver Greg Biffle helped Hurricane Helene victims

My dad co-owned a little four-seater and I went up there a few times with him (he didn't get a pilot's license until he was 56 or 57).   It was awesome.    My dad said "can I do a few rolls?"      My sister freaked out when he said that.   I got the joke.
