oblong Posted Thursday at 11:58 PM Posted Thursday at 11:58 PM Great tweet today that I read. Ted Turner spent 20 years making it easy for a kid in Montana could watch the Braves. MLB has spent 20 years making it harder for a kid in Atlanta to watch the Braves. 6 1 2 Quote
pfife Posted yesterday at 04:06 AM Posted yesterday at 04:06 AM Sad to hear that Pat Caputo passed away. The S on his shirt stood for "straight down the middle". RIP. https://www.clickondetroit.com/news/local/2026/05/08/detroit-sports-radio-host-pat-caputo-dies-at-67-after-battle-with-pancreatic-cancer/ Quote

The Rust Belt has higher rates and SE Michigan has 10 times the rates as the rest of Michigan. Manufacturing polution and pesticide use are the main theories. Edman85 Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago There's more pesticide use in SE Michigan? I've lived in the south for a while now, and there's a bunch more needed down here. Also, a lot of the anti-pesticide (not all) stuff out there is junk science, so I immediately have some skepticism when I hear them blamed for something. Quote

For my money it's a bit insane to plant grass and then put poison on it to stop things that naturally grow in grass from living there (e.g. dandelions). YMMV. Quote

I use it... in concert with the warning labels and at the recommendation of the local extension office. If you do that, there is little risk to the environment. And down here weeds can take over and kill a lawn. Quote

I worked in the chemical industry too long not to take a rebuttable presumption against all chlorinated aromatics. Quote
