The populated, tax-paying states can deploy some weapons of their own.

This could escalate into a very nasty electoral war that would knock a couple more bricks out of the creaking edifice that remains of cooperattive democracy.

Yeah, it would be stupid if the GOP crossed the threshold that this is meant to deter.

They’re just following the Orban playbook. We’ll have elections but they’ll be rigged

Well, Trump and company basically admitted flat out they're planning to rig them.

At 78 it's definitely time to step aside. House leadership is going to change drastically in '27.

I think Jerry has been short of a full deck for some years already. Another guy I think has been kept afloat by dedicated staff.

What I like about this new found ageism in the Democratic Party is that none of these young candidates have actually come up with anything I hadn't heard since the 90's, and none of them have explained how they would get anything passed in a Republican controlled congress.

well they certainly aren't trying to learn from the GOP model, which was to build from the outside in with with non-governmental influencers, think tanks, lobbies, media, until they had critical mass to win elections. The Dems keep wanting to do it from the top down, which I don't think ever creates the conditions for the shift on the ground even if they win the White House every couple of cycles. I think there are big Dem donors, maybe not like the Koch's, but they don't have the imagination or maybe the patience, to do the kinds of things the Koch's, Murdoch's or the Heritage foundation have done.

Middle school-level insults have become acceptable. What a country.

and have to say Newsom isn't helping in that regard. Started out clever but the quality of the gibes is fading.

My guess is that the elections will be fair and than we'll get a blue wave...Then Trump will say they were rigged and disregard the results.

Elections will be mostly fair in most of the blue states and in a few safe red states. But as we can see from the redistricting fiasco, elections can be rigged far ahead of the actual voting.

But in the end, if an actual blue wave took place with the effect of flipping either or both houses, I would think there’s a distressingly high probability that Trump and his minions would cause so much chaos around the results that the newly elected Democrats won’t be allowed to take their seats the following January 3.

They were never clever, Newsom simply mocked the president. It was low hanging fruit.  It was funny in that someone was doing it back to Trump and even funnier when the MAGA right tried to make fun of Newsom for not sounding professional.

I don't like the idea that our potentially next president mocked anyone like that, but I believe it was Chuck that simply pointed out (paraphrasing and hoping I'm capturing his thoughts correctly)  that at least he's willing to get in the mud and fight the same fight with Trump.

Sen Collin's was concerned. Just not concerned enough. Time for her to be concerned while retired.

Joke’s on us: she’s known exactly what she’s been doing the whole time.
