I’m trying to remember why I hated Thomas Massie.  If I were a billionaire I would be behind him. Not because of his politics but because he represents the normal window of politics. Just reset things and we can fight about the margins and not democracy itself.

the funny thing is that the most effective way to have the price of oil fall is to support the purchase of EV's, and the build out of wind and solar, but Trump hasn't figured that out. (Sell a million EVs, take the output of a large refinery out of total demand). But of course if 'energy' prices actually fell, that means oil, and the oil fat cats that donated that $500M to him would not get what he promised them for that $$$ - which just shows you that he knew he was lying from the get go. But with Trump it's ever telling the truth that would be news.

The fault baked into this lead sentence of your post is the assumption that Trump actually cares about bringing down the price of oil.

First of all, from a 30,000-foot view, it's faulty on its face to assume Trump cares about making life better for the American people in the first place. He doesn't, which he has demonstrated so often that I can hardly believe people can keep a straight face whenever they say he does.

Secondly, to this particular point, it assumes that Trump is actually racking his brain trying to honestly figure out how to bring the price of oil down, but he simply hasn't been able to do so yet. As the authoritarian president of one of the world's largest exporters of oil, and who likely directly benefits financially from it by dint of how he has redefined his office, the interest he has in bringing down the price of oil can be safely assumed to be zero.

Apologies because you didn't ask for this, but I think the sentence would be far more accurate if rendered as:

I heard someone predict on a top pod this weekend that Trump might end up just canceling it outright because he's struggling to make it through public events more and more. I don't know how likely that actually is, but it does seem likely that he will have some portion of it that makes everyone question his health.

Instead of not showing up, would it be more meaningful if they all got up and walked out? Make a huge spectacle of themselves while sending a message?
