romad1 Posted Friday at 10:26 AM Posted Friday at 10:26 AM So, in the mail I got a bill from an insurance company for some payment billed to my handicapped brother who is on Medicare and Medicaid and does not reside at my house. I guess the story is that this sort of normal co-pay will now be billed to his social security payments and they were trying to find him to get him to pay that. I guess they think i'll dutifully pay that for him? In other news the cost of that co-pay will now mean he can't do much in the way of fun this month. Good job Doge. Hope you choke on your lobster or human hearts or whatever it is you priks eat. 1 1 Quote

I'm not sure what that has to do with this. I'm just saying the wording of his statement read to me that they were getting threats from anti-Trumpers. Maybe I'm wrong about that. It's just the way I read it. My preference would be that I'm wrong, because those kinds of threats are not helpful to opposing MAGA/Trump. Quote
LaceyLou Posted Friday at 04:51 PM Posted Friday at 04:51 PM Several towns near me (including Framingham) have canceled July 4th celebrations because of a 'lack of funds,' but I can't help but think it's because of a feeling of dullness and/or lack of enthusiasm this year. TBH I don't feel like celebrating, either. It's sad because I remember the excitement of the bicentennial-people came together to celebrate even though the 70s (and the 60s) had their share of conflict and division. 1 Quote

The wife who loves her some local fireworks said something similar to me. Yes, the 1976 thing was real. Quote
oblong Posted Friday at 06:18 PM Posted Friday at 06:18 PM I remember being sad that I missed 1976 because I was just under 3 years old. I had 250 marked as something that would be awesome. Now it's just meh. That bastard will make it all about himself and show no dignity or grace. Speaking of... Obama's library is opening up soon. Those events used to be fun for bipartisanship. You'd get all the former presidents together being friendly. In one of my books they talk about Clinton's library opening and George HW Bush and Clinton had by that point become great friends. They were wandering around the halls slowly and Dubya, showing his hand as POTUS told a staffer "Will someone tell 41 and 42 that 43 is hungry?" 1 Quote
CMRivdogs Posted Friday at 07:16 PM Posted Friday at 07:16 PM (edited) It just seems that the whole vibe this year is meh. Looking from the outside from about 3 years or so ago the individual state committees, outside a few like Virginia and maybe Pennsylvania and Massachusetts nobody seems to know how to tie their story into the history of founding of the nation. Both the good and the ugly That plus SemiQuince Centennial is a weird word. If nothing else living where do for the past half dozen years has given me a bit of perspective on history. Especially since CW is also celebrating its Centennial year, Edited Friday at 07:17 PM by CMRivdogs 1 Quote

Not saying those threats can't happen, but they have been debunked so often, I tend to believe off the bat that they are false flags. Quote

I think the Bicentennial served as a balm to help heal some of those divisions, and there was zero attempt at the kind of us vs them these people are engaging in. Quote
