No one will probably read this because the game threads are not well visited lately, but I was able to discern who’s responsible for Comerica Park being abnormally large even though it has shrunk in recent years. Everyone else may well be aware of this, but I find the casually considered logic behind this reasoning to be stupendously inane. 395 feet to the left-field power alley?

“As we were suffering through some years of pitching that wasn’t very good, all of us realized that very few ballparks penalize bad pitching as much as Tiger Stadium does,” then-Tigers president John McHale told the Detroit Free Press just before the ballpark opened in 2000. “So we thought it might be interesting to design a park where there was a dimension that would allow a pitcher -- if he threw it in the appropriate place and could induce the batter to hit it -- to be reasonably sure of a long, relatively harmless fly ball.”

Juan Gonzalez didn't like that big ball park. It was the best thing about that deep fence, he left. The Tigers dodged a bullet with that steroid freak.

Does any real baseball person talk this way?

He was a bow-tie wearer, was he not.   That's a choice.  You can either be a novelist of antebellum romance or a male stripper if you affect that look.

Gleyber Torres homers (3) on a fly ball to left center field. Thank you, thank you, thank God, for you, the wind beneath my wings…

Just saw a headline today the Yankees are looking for a right hand bat HAHA

He seems like he might have a chip on his shoulder. Possible grittiness.

Jobe Ks two in the second. But yeah, we need to send him down to Toledo and pamper his ass, right? I’m gonna go all High Plains Drifter on the next person that suggests this.

John McHale was a nerd.  And I don't just say that because he wore a bow tie and had glasses.   He told an interview once he was in the middle of reading Sophacles.

My wife spent some time dealing with the Tigers front office during the end of his time there. (She managed the radio broadcast network, that was a small part of her job). Let's just say he was an interesting person

Haha.

Another benefit of bullpen chaos is they can keep him on an innings limit and not have to shut him down in July.

He was really reading the Mack Bolan book Double Crossfire and musing about the effectiveness of the Fairbairn Sykes dagger vs. the Gerber Mk1.

Well, I’m all for that kind of stuff. In fact that makes me like him more, but I’m not cutting him any slack for a 395 foot power alley in left field dimension.

Dave Dombrowski was my speed.  I think Scott Harris might be the superior GM if we can keep him though.
