They'll wait until august to sign him.  he'll be terrible again and cost them games, BUT half the board will tell us that it was actually a brilliant signing by harris because they MIGHT have signed someone worse!

I've noticed there are a few posters who think just Harris's presence has made all the players that much better.  Like he was hired and suddenly the players figured out how to play baseball just because he was part of the organization.

Since I'm not seeing much answer in here to my question...

I am just going to Adopt-a-Tiger and report on his progress this season...

Feel FREE to join in whoever has an interest in doing so...!

Could be a very interesting season this year, as more of Harris's guys percolate up to Detroit, or at least AAA, several pitchers coming back from injury, Rainer returning from injury...

But I'm going to go with an unknown minor leaguer that we just signed (I love those long shots...):

Inohan Paniagua.

26 years old, out of the Dominican Republic, 6' 1", 150 #'s... Has never pitched above High-A.

On the latest Tiger Territory podcast, Cody Stavenhagen said scouts at the winter meetings considered Troy Melton to be a "60 FV" player.

• Max Clark: 60 FV on 2025 MLB top 100
• Jackson Jobe: 60 FV on 2024 MLB top 100
• Troy Melton: 60 FV according to recent scouting assessments

Most teams consider 60 FV prospects untouchable in trade talks.  There are only 20 players, and just 3 pitchers, rated 60 FV on the 2025 MLB top 100 prospects list.

It’s easy to forget about Jobe, but given the success rate of TJ, he should be a big part of what we do in ‘27.

they seem persuaded that Anderson is going to hold his own. I don't know if there are enough comps of guys coming to the MLB from Korea to have that kind of confidence that a 2.25 ERA there is enough to translate into success here, but they seem to think so.

What is the problem people have with Casey Mize?  He pitched 149 innings, had a 14-6 record, a 3.87 ERA, and only costs the team $6M.

I’m a fan.  But maybe more than the team—they left him off the ‘24 postseason roster and didn’t let go more than 3-4 innings during this postseason.

The media likes to point point out that the Tigers were 21-10 in games that Skubal pitched and a .500 team without Skubal. The Tigers were 18-10 in games that Mize pitched.

Mize got trememdous run support in his games last year which contributed to his deceptive W/L.  He was OK though.  If he pitches the same this year, I'll be reasonably happy.

Mize is a good #4 starter. In the playoffs you ideally want your 1, 2 maybe 3 starters getting most innings. Olson got hurt and Flaherty was struggling forcing Mize into a role he shouldn't have been in.

In the 18 games the Tigers won when Mize pitched, Mize averaged 1.77 earned runs per game.  In the 21 games the Tigers won when Skubal pitched, Skubal averaged 1.33 earned runs per game.

I think the fan base and frankly the organization for some reason aren’t really behind Mize. I chalk it up to being a 1st pick and underperforming expectations as well as injuries. Tork I think gets under appreciated as well for that same 1st pick reason. Me personally I think Mize is a good 2/3 type pitcher who a good team should win the majority of his starts he just isn’t going to dominate another team very often.

interesting thing with Casey  is that since he came back from his TJ he has learned to be effective against LHB, who hammered him early in his career. He has a slightly inverse OPS platoon split - but managers continue to send LHB to face him - he faced more LHB than RHB in total last season.

Flaherty averaged 0.67 runs in in the games Tigers won

I wouldn't have guessed it was quite that low across the board though, so it was an interesting observation on your part.  

The Tigers scored 4.5 runs in all of Skubal's starts and 6.0 in Mize's starts.  Skubal never gave up more than 4 runs in any of the losses, so he likely would have won more games with more run support.  

ER allowed per game in Mize's losses 3.2. 2.0 in Skubal's losses.
