  1. To me when i look at the organization from top down this is the healthiest I have ever seen/remember the whole organization as someone who was born in 1986. Success that looks like it can sustain at the top end with talent at every level in the organization. We've had times where the Tigers looked great but the farm was mostly trash and times when the farm looked good but the Tigers were trash. I'm excited and optimistic with Harris's stated vison that he has a plan for sustaining that organizational depth.
  2. It's funny to hear other perspectives because I find him boring. I guess that's why they rotate.
  3. Anyone have a good list of players that need to be added to the 40man this offseason? Seems to me that we are going to have a decent amount of changes to the extended roster. Going to be interesting to see what Harris does either with trading/cutting vets or trying to flip prospects for lower level players that don’t need to be added yet.
  4. I have been questioning this for a couple years now so I think it very acceptable to start questioning how they are handling practices and their own strength and conditioning programs. To me it’s not acceptable to use the excuse of football is a violent sport for practices. There are always ways to reduce potential Injuries.
  5. I don’t think Briceno has seen enough high quality spin yet and between his missed time and still learning 1B defensively I would assume most of the year next year would be in the minors.
  6. I am not sure that Hope starts the year with the Tigers next season. I see him getting the Max treatment and playing in Toledo all year unless he makes it extremely obvious he can play almost everyday like McGonigle did but in RF. Carp among others are still under cheaper contracts for next year so I think they will go that direction to start.
  7. Don’t think he has much value. Would love to see what Meadows would look like in RF next to Clark to end games and gets some starts against righty’s.
  8. I do worry that Harris’s strategy is going to be extend early in their careers to buy out years or let them walk/trade them when their first contract runs out. Use Free agency to fill gaps on 1-2 year type contracts. If this is accurate then we may be looking to replace players like Greene in a couple years.
  9. My guess is he will sign a very similar extension but slightly more. Why? Because we live in a different world than yesterday and contracts always go slightly up. The Tigers would do well to get it done as soon as possible because that price goes up if he is successful the rest of this season like he is looking to be so far.
  10. I think yes to all of the above?
  11. I think we have to realize that the broadcast isn’t for the superfans that post on message boards. They are for the casual fan who doesn’t tune in every night. When thinking of it from that standpoint Jason and whoever he’s with each night are entertaining. My wife who doesn’t watch every night found that last conversation hilarious and I just tuned it out.
  12. I think it’s fair for him to say that since didn't I read 13 million of that is deferred to the future so he’s really not paying him 2 mil this year? That reads exactly like I want to bring the fans in to see the last currently known Tigers HOF. Frankly if Verlander pitched all year the ROI would’ve probably been pretty good money spent in just tickets sales and merchandise.
  13. I think there is also a 45 day timeframe that he would for sure be over if he’s up the entire time.
  14. Just absolutely no swing and miss in this bullpen.
  15. Problem is treading water is just lost opportunity that makes the percentage of remaining games you must win go up and it starts to get to an unrealistic number pretty quickly.
  16. Agreed. Outman goes when Clark comes up in the middle of August. I guess it could be when Meadows comes back as well but I’m not sure that happens at all this year as I haven’t heard any updates.
  17. I get what you are trying to say but the Tigers shouldn’t hold different teams to different standards just because they have a better farm system than someone else. It should all be about the quality they are getting back. If the Rays offer the best value back the Tigers should accept it even if it didn’t include their top prospect. Why would I want a lower return elsewhere just because I think they should trade me their best prospect?
  18. This is not a poorly run organization anymore and teams have bad years all the time. Injuries all at the same time and the bullpen universally taking a step back is what sunk this team. If you want a team the spends a ton of money every year and trades any prospects they have every year for existing talent I would suggest you find a different team to route for in the mean time. Detroit simply is no longer a top market both from an economic standpoint or a desirable one for players to live. The only way this organization is going to be successful year in and year out is to be disciplined in the approach to building a strong foundation of minor leaguers to replace aging vets. Harris, Hinch and Company have done a good job of building on what the prior leadership left them to get back to relevance quickly but you can’t change and entire organizational model over night and they should not deviate from that plan. They have built a much stronger scouting and development team, they have changed philosophy on players they want to acquire and have been much more competitive with top international talent. The AL central can be winnable every year with a healthy organization which gives you a shot to win the World Series every year and the Indians/Guardians have proven that. I believe the Tigers want that model with more winningness to spend to actually be able to get over the top compared to what the Guardians ownership has done.
  19. That high of a prospect who is already doing well in AA would rarely ever get traded which would make it even more unlikely for a rental. I actual think the package they put together is a pretty fair one.
  20. In my opinion they should sell no matter what, at the very least Skubal, Mize and Torres who could get decent returns. Ask yourself what does this team do really well that gives you confidence in a postseason run? They haven’t closed out close games well offensively or defensively with the bullpen blowing more late leads than anyone else. They don’t play good defense and 1/3 of the lineup every game doesn’t challenge pitchers. The only thing they do really well is starting pitching. Just too flawed for me to be bullish on their playoff chances. If you can do better then a comp pick for Mize and Skubal you do it. If you can get a potential piece for the next couple seasons for the rest of the expiring contracts or option year players then you take it. Regroup with some money to spend on your flaws and additional young players for the next couple years and the organization will be much healthier overall.
  21. Paying pitchers to me is like pay running backs in the NFL you really only do it for the truly elite ones and even then you try to do the shortest time period you can. I would much rather pay position players and rotate cheaper pitching even if it means that I never truly have an amazing pitching staff.
  22. Dodgers no. Cubs, Braves and Brewers need pitching to take up starter level of innings.
  23. Don’t need to be under by more than a dollar so we can take on a good amount of salary to get a better prospect and we aren’t over by much.
  24. Look at the pitchers we traded for last year. If we are willing to eat some of the salary Flaherty would absolutely be interesting to a contender for a low minors lottery ticket or something that could be a further along bullpen type arm that might not have room on their 40 man next year. Valdez probably less so because of the future commitments. Bullpen arms like Finnegan, Holton and Jensen could have interest in them as well. With that said I don’t really see us becoming full sellers. I see one or two moves if we get great offers or minor to get under the tax and still try to win.
  25. I agree with this. Bullpens are tough as it seems like there are only a few guys that are great every year and the rest are hit and miss from season to season. How many seasons did we want Dombrowski to get us a good bullpen and he never did? With today’s game with starters pitching less innings the bullpens are so much more important to have at least 4 guys you can rely on to give you good outings.
