2025 Detroit Tigers General Discussion Thread
Nate7474 replied to IdahoBert's topic in Detroit Tigers
Who goes down when Parker is back which sounds like very soon? Sweeney/Malloy/Perez seem to be the most likely targets. Sweeney is going to be my guess for a reset. He’s been struggling for a while now at the plate and seems to have gone over to the field here recently. -
Mize not missing any bats today. Might be a short night for him if it doesn't turn around quick.
-
I am hoping this is something he could’ve potentially just skipped one start or worked thru. But since we will need to limit his innings anyway and he is so young let’s just set him down for little while and work on some things away from the spotlight.
-
This is just not the same team tonight. Bats have been a little quiet over the last couple series but there hasn’t even been many quality at bats tonight. Seems like mentally after the road trip and the rain they just are not mentally there tonight.
-
Maybe we should try something different then hitting it directly to the center-fielder on a line?

Late inning strikeout type bullpen help is really the only thing I’d be looking for. Potentially an end of the rotation experienced starter depending on injuries and how many innings they are willing to take Jobe to. I think they already have help coming back on the offense side of the house, although injuries could change that. -

I get annoyed at times but for the most part enjoy them. Quick google search says we moved from 30th to 10th in broadcast ranking last year. -
This has always been my opinion for this season. With the smaller amount of minor league teams you don't see as many older quality 4a types in AAA. Because of that the amount of hitters that work pitchers is limited and frankly that's Jobe's problem. He does a good job of getting ahead of hitters but then struggles to put hitters away and they are driving up pitch count and working long walks. He will be fine in the long run as he has short stints in almost all of his starts where he looks dominant.

I wouldn’t make it a sure thing that Mahogany is going to be one of the starters. I think that’s why they were ok with also using draft capital on Frazier. It gives them security in case a couple of the interior candidates fail. It will be an interesting camp battle between the 4 players going for those 2 positions.

I'd guess that they are building up arm strength and conditioning like spring training in practice and yet letting him get his timing down live against pitching.

It all depends on how ready Vierling is to make the throws from third. -
I wouldn’t be surprised to see 40mil a year or a large deferral amount for him depending on what he prefers to make up the difference. Lefties that have been dominant and improving are rare. If he can stay completely healthy this year that would put the injury concerns behind him as well I think. What keeps the contract a little lower is that fact he’s a couple years older than preferred for those large contracts.

Riley Greene is allergic to taking a pitch. I think Baez may be more selective right now.
-
Physical attributes are elite. if the hands are there and he becomes a good route runner there's a lot of potential in that player. With that said I hate the value of the pick even if I do consider it a need. Felt like there were a decent amount of good EDGE pieces and without a pick until the 6th round I'd find it hard to believe any of them slip.
-
A lot of good players at needs left that I could see them going multiple ways. I think a starting OG could fall. Looking at Rathledge, Mbow or Milum. I think both OSU DEs could also be an option. The Lions prioritize DE that can stop the run first and both do that well. Lastly of Higgins fell to us I could see them making true to their word that they’d like to get younger and cheaper at WR. The lions truly are such a wildcard team that’s hard to predict this year.
-
Its not a bad pick and there was a run of potential Lions fits in the teens to early twenties that I think might have had them scrambling a little bit. Lions like stopping the run first and this pick helps them do that.
-
Id be happy but surprised as hes a zone corner and we are an heavy man team.
-
I dont think the Lions would take either unless there was extensive homework done. Were they brought in for a top 30 visit?
-
I don't think the Draft is falling to bad for what the Lions need so I think there still could be a difference maker in a position of need.

I think they are going to do this a lot throughout the year to lessen the innings on his arm with it being such a long season compared to what he’s used to. -
Problem is if he plays with us and has a great year which is what I expect to happen at best he only has one year left with the 5th year option being picked up next month. Then with 2 very good years in a row he is looking at a huge payday that the new team would need to be willing to pay to make any trade worthwhile for them. Really this offseason is his highest value imo which is why I don’t think he will be traded and we will pick up the option. Then let him walk in 2 years and hope to have a cheaper replacement by then.
-
From what I have read Jamo is not worth a 1st rounder and I would agree with that. I’d guess package with our first he might move you into the top half. Most likely you’re looking at a late 2nd or 3rd rounder at best.
-
I would rather they not trade him. However, if they get one of the top WR in the draft this year then I could see the advantage of trading away someone you don’t plan on resigning. Pick up a second or third/plus this year to still take advantage of the decent depth of DE and OG to fill out the roster. This would allow them to save some cap money to extend the defensive players that are going to start getting expensive quick. Again it’s not what I would do as it seems little bit to risky to take away from a strength of this roster for an unknown and there will be other opportunities to get cheaper or replace players.

I feel like there should be an electronic strike zone but the ump still calls the result. Then to keep the realism of having to find a strike zone, have a set of 5-10 different strike patterns that’s the pitchers and batters have to work at finding throughout the game. 1 randomized pattern per game working off the assumption that each umpire typically has a slight variation to what a strike is for them. I like that not all strike zones are the same and there’s human elements to that but I don’t like strike zones seemingly changing throughout the game.

Brewers have done a nice job against him and he hasn't been throwing competitive pictures outside of the zone. Same issue that Jobe has been having with allowing hitters to see to many pitches.
